IBM® Operational Decision Manager (ODM) V8.10.2 uses the IBM continuous delivery (CD) support model beginning with the release of Version 8.10. For additional information on how ODM V8.10.2 uses the CD model, see the Terms and conditions section.

In addition to the ODM V8.10.2 CD update package, Version 8.10.2 is also declared as a long term support release (LTSR), with product defect fixes and security updates for a minimum period of two years from its general availability date. Note that program defect fixes and security updates are only available for the two, most current CD updates and all active LTSRs.

New capabilities in ODM V8.10.2 include:

  • Additional features that are integrated in Decision Center Business Console.
    • Users can generate a report describing the content of a decision service.
    • Users can view and edit technical rules and functions.
  • The ODM emitter of Business Automation Insights (BAI) that is supported on additional application servers. The ODM emmitter transmits decision execution events from the ODM Rule Execution Server to the BAI module in IBM Cloud™ Pak for Automation, previously known as IBM Digital Business Automation for Multicloud.

ODM is an advanced business rules management system that is part of the IBM Automation Platform for Digital Business that helps clients capture, automate, and govern frequent, repeatable business decisions.ODM adds near real-time decision making to clients' day-to-day operations. It can help ensure their applications remain current and aligned with their changing business objectives.

The ODM offerings include a full edition and also an Express® edition. They can address the incremental requirements from basic rules to full-decision management:

  • ODM Server is a single offering that includes all available features and supported platforms.
    • Clients can adapt the decision logic of applications at the speed of business. Its dedicated rule authoring and validation environments for business stakeholders gives visibility into, control over, and automation of point-in-time business decisions.
    • Includes support and specific deliverables to run Decision Center and Decision Server Rules within IBM Cloud Private.
    • Includes Decision Server Insights capabilities that help capture events, build context, and apply them to operational decisions in near real time. Clients can detect situations as they occur to present risks or opportunities so they can enable the appropriate action.
  • ODM Server Express is the entry-point offering that is designed for initial business rules projects as it is licensed for a limited quality of service and a limited number of deployments. ODM Server Express only includes Decision Server Rules and Decision Center components and cannot be used with IBM Cloud Private.

ODM Server is a comprehensive platform for the management and execution of business rules and business events. Components include:

  • Decision Server Rules

    Provides specific runtime and development components that are designed to automate and manage decision logic that is based on business rules.

  • Decision Center

    Provides an integrated repository and management components for line-of-business, subject-matter experts to directly participate in the definition and governance of rules-based, decision logic. Decision Center includes the Business Console that can provide business and IT functions that can work collaboratively to align the entire organization in the implementation of automated decisions. It can also accelerate the maintenance lifecycle as businesses evolve based on new external and internal requirements.

  • Decision Server Insights

    Extends the ODM capabilities and components in Decision Server with Decision Server Insights and the Insights Designer. These additional components enable the building of solutions that enable the detection of actionable business situations and take appropriate action at the time of interaction.

ODM Server Express is also available as an entry-level offering, with limited PVUs. It only includes Decision Center and Decision Server Rules components.

ODM provides the ability to effectively automate a comprehensive range of decisions across business processes and applications. Some examples of these kinds of decision-management applications include:

  • Product and promotional offers
  • Eligibility and pricing determinations
  • Case and client prioritizations
  • Risk assessments and fraud determinations

Licensing

IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use. Part number products only, offered outside of Passport Advantage, where applicable, are license only and do not include Software Maintenance.

Software Maintenance

Licenses under the IBM International Program License Agreement (IPLA) provide for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available. Two charges apply: a one-time license charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours), as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect.

Limited warranty

IBM warrants that when the program is used in the specified operating environment, it will conform to its specifications. The warranty applies only to the unmodified portion of the program. IBM does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of the program or that IBM will correct all program defects. You are responsible for the results obtained from the use of the program.

IBM provides you with access to IBM databases containing information on known program defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at no additional charge. For further information, see the IBM Support Guide.

IBM will maintain this information for at least one year after the original licensee acquires the program (warranty period).

With the IBM ODM V8.10 family of products, IBM ODM uses the CD support model. Following the initial release of Version 8.10, new function and enhancements will be made available by incremental updates within the same version and release.

The new support model is implemented as follows:

  • The CD support model allows IBM products to make new function available more frequently. The model also recognizes that frequent releases may not be suitable for all client application environments. Therefore, some products may offer a Long Term Support Release (LTSR) option.
  • An LTSR can be supported for a longer period time, thereby assisting clients where frequent functional updates may not be practical and a longer term deployment is desirable.
  • Clients should stay up to date with the installation of updates and LTSR packages to obtain the latest maintenance and new function. Product defect fixes and security updates are only available for the two, most current CD updates and all active LTSRs. If required, individual product fixes can be made available between update packages for resolution of problems.
  • Update packages are delivered on the latest product release stream when the new release becomes available.
  • New functional updates are not available to previously released update packages and LTSRs.
  • Support is available for all IBM components of a product until the product is withdrawn from support.
  • Support extensions are available, for a minimum period of two years for an additional fee, following effective support discontinuance date of the product.

For support of IBM ODM V8.10.2, IBM ODM V8.10.2 is delivered as an LTSR.

Technical support of a program product version or release will be available for a minimum of three years from the general availability date, as long as your Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) is in effect.

This technical support allows you to obtain assistance (by telephone or electronic means) from IBM for product-specific, task-oriented questions regarding the installation and operation of the program product. Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance) also provides you with access to versions, releases, and updates (CD releases, Long Term Support Releases or fixes) of the program. You will be notified, through an announcement letter, of discontinuance of support with six months' notice. If you require additional technical support from IBM, including an extension of support beyond the discontinuance date, contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner. This extension may be available for a fee.

Money-back guarantee

If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program and you are the original licensee, you may obtain a refund of the amount you paid for it, if within 30 days of your invoice date you return the program and its PoE to the party from whom you obtained it. If you downloaded the program, you may contact the party from whom you acquired it for instructions on how to obtain the refund.

For clarification, note that (1) for programs acquired under the IBM International Passport Advantage offering, this term applies only to your first acquisition of the program and (2) for programs acquired under any of IBM's On/Off Capacity on Demand (On/Off CoD) software offerings, this term does not apply since these offerings apply to programs already acquired and in use by you.

Product upgrades and Technical Support are provided by the Software Subscription and Support offering as described in the Agreements. Product upgrades provide the latest versions and releases to entitled software, and Technical Support provides voice and electronic access to IBM support organizations, worldwide.

IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support with each program license acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available.

While your Software Subscription and Support is in effect, IBM provides you assistance for your routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions, and code-related questions. IBM provides assistance by telephone and, if available, electronic access, only to your information systems (IS) technical support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center. (This assistance is not available to your users.) IBM provides Severity 1 assistance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For additional details, see the IBM Support Guide. Software Subscription and Support does not include assistance for the design and development of applications, your use of programs in other than their specified operating environment, or failures caused by products for which IBM is not responsible under the applicable agreements.
