Description
Bottom rule

IBM IMS Tools Base for z/OS, V1.6 (5655-V93) contains the following new functionality, support, and changes:

Recovery Preparedness Autonomics

  • Together with the separately licensed IBM IMS Recovery Solution Pack, V2.1, Tools Base provides Recovery Preparedness Autonomics capability:
    • Information on database image copies and change accumulations are collected by Recovery Sensor of IMS Recovery Solution Pack and are stored in the IMS Tools Knowledge Base repository.
    • New policies and rules are added to detect database image copy and change accumulation needs and allow users to set exception thresholds.
    • Autonomics Director for IMS allows users to view recovery exception notifications in their list of monitored databases for a consolidated view of the issues affecting their IMS databases.
    • Tools Base Autonomics Director can schedule Recovery Sensor jobs and the evaluation of the collected sensor data, and the exception information detected in the evaluation is then stored in the IMS Tools Knowledge Base repository for autonomics processing.

IMS Autonomics Integrated ISPF

  • Offers an improved ISPF user interface for lists of exceptions that are detected by policy evaluation of Autonomics Director.
  • Provides an exception summary across multiple RECON environments and an exception list for a specific RECON environment.
  • Allows for better sorting and filtering capabilities for both the exception summary and the exception list.

The following two components are no longer delivered as part of IBM Tools Base for z/OS, V1.6. They are made available as follows:

  • The IBM Tools Customizer for z/OS component that was provided with IBM Tools Base for z/OS, V1.5 and earlier releases is now made available with the separately licensed IBM Tools Customizer for z/OS, V1.1 (5655-TC1). Refer to the Reference information section for announcement letter information.
  • The IBM Autonomics Director for DB2 for z/OS component provided with IBM Tools Base for z/OS, V1.5 is now made available as a feature with any of the following separately licensed offerings:
    • IBM DB2 Utilities Solution Pack for z/OS, V4.1 (5697-US4)
    • IBM DB2 Backup and Recovery Solution Pack for z/OS, V1.1 (5655-BR1)
    • IBM DB2 Management Solution Pack for z/OS, V2.1 (5655-MS2)

Refer to the Reference information section for announcement letter information.

IBM IMS Recovery Solution Pack for z/OS, V2.1 (5655-ISR) provides the following:

Backup Processes

  • Allow high-speed creation of image copy data sets for multiple database data sets simultaneously
  • Back up entire IMS systems nearly instantaneously with a significantly reduced likelihood of application downtime
  • Support efforts to reduce storage costs by utilizing one backup for multiple purposes
  • Reduce use of CPU, I/O, and tape resources in backup processes
  • Automatically perform backup validation to achieve more successful recoveries

Recovery Processes

  • Support the recovery of multiple database data sets and Fast Path areas simultaneously
  • Recover more quickly and more easily using Intelligent Recovery Managers for local and remote recovery support
  • Reduce recovery time and complexity with faster restore and parallel recovery (log apply)
  • Provide verification of recovery assets to support availability and usability
  • Allow integration of recovery tasks into a single job step which can include:
    • Rebuilding index data sets
    • Creating image copies
  • Offer automatic stop and start for databases around backup and recovery processes
  • Provide index rebuilding rather than recovery from image copy
  • Provide recovery point identification and creation

Change Accumulation Processes

  • Offer high-speed creation of change accumulation data sets

Disaster Recovery Processes

  • Reduce recovery time objectives by transforming disaster recovery into a disaster restart process
  • Identify assets and prepare files and JCL for a more successful disaster recovery or disaster restart
  • Provide RECON cleanup to prepare RECON data sets for the disaster recovery environment

The effort required to accomplish IMS backup and recovery management is greatly reduced through an easier-to-use ISPF user interface.

Ordering information
Bottom rule

The following programs in this announcement have Value Unit pricing:

Program number Program name Value Unit Exhibit
5655-ISR IBM IMS Recovery Solution Pack for z/OS VUE007

For each z Systems® IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, the quantity of that program needed to satisfy applicable IBM terms and conditions is referred to as the required license capacity. Your required license capacity is based upon the following factors:

  • The z Systems IPLA program you select
  • The applicable Value Unit Exhibit
  • The applicable terms
  • Whether your current mainframes are full capacity or sub-capacity

Value Unit Exhibit VUE007

MSUs minimum MSUs maximum Value Units/MSU
Base 1 3 1
Tier A 4 45 0.45
Tier B 46 175 0.36
Tier C 176 315 0.27
Tier D 316 + 0.20

Ordering example

The total number of Value Units is calculated according to the following example.

If your required license capacity is 1,500 MSUs for your selected z Systems IPLA product, the applicable Value Units would be:

Tier MSUs Multiplied by Value Units per MSU Equal Value Units
Base 3 1.00 3.00
Tier A 42 .45 18.90
Tier B 130 .36 46.80
Tier C 140 .27 37.80
Tier D 1,185 .20 237.00
Total 1,500   343.50

When calculating the total number of Value Units, the sum is to be rounded up to the next integer.

Customized offerings

Product deliverables are shipped only through CBPDO and ServerPac. These customized offerings are offered for internet delivery in countries where Shopz product ordering is available. Internet delivery reduces software delivery time and allows you to install software without the need to handle tapes. For more details on internet delivery, go to the Help section on the Shopz website.

You choose the delivery method when you order the software. IBM recommends internet delivery. In addition to internet and DVD, the supported tape delivery options include:

  • 3590
  • 3592

Most products can be ordered in ServerPac the month following their availability in CBPDO. z/OS can be ordered through CBPDO and ServerPac at general availability. Many products will also be orderable in a Product ServerPac without also having to order the z/OS operating system or subsystem.

Shopz and CFSW will determine the eligibility based on product requisite checking. For more details on the product ServerPac, go to the Help section on the Shopz website.

For additional information about the Product ServerPac option, refer to Software Announcement 212-272, dated July 31, 2012.

Production of software product orders will begin on the planned general availability date.

  • CBPDO shipments will begin one week after general availability.
  • ServerPac shipments will begin four weeks after general availability.

Statement of good security practices
Bottom rule

IT system security involves protecting systems and information through prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside your enterprise.
