Licensing metric definitions

Resource Value Unit (RVU)

RVU is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. RVU Proofs of Entitlement (PoEs) are based on the number of units of a specific resource used or managed by the program. Licensee must obtain sufficient entitlements for the number of RVUs required for the licensee's environment for the specific resources as specified in the table below and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with RVU entitlements of another program or resource.

Notes:

  • Some programs may require licenses for the resources available to and the resources being managed by the program. In that case, the following applies. In addition to the entitlements required for the resources used by the program directly, licensee must obtain entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the resources managed by the program.
  • Some programs may be licensed on a managed basis only. In that case, the following applies. Instead of the entitlements required for the resources used by the program directly, licensee must obtain entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the resources managed by the program.

Standby or backup systems

For programs running or resident on backup machines, IBM defines three types of situations: cold, warm and hot. In cold and warm situations, a separate entitlement for the copy on the backup machine is normally not required and typically no additional charge applies. In a hot backup situation, the customer needs to acquire other license or entitlements sufficient for that server. All programs running in backup mode must be solely under the customer's control, even if running at another enterprise's location.

As a practice, the following are definitions and allowable actions concerning the copy of the program used for backup purposes.

Cold: A copy of the program may reside, for backup purposes, on a machine as long as the program is not started. There is no additional charge for this copy.

Warm: A copy of the program may reside for backup purposes on a machine and is started, but is idling, and is not doing any work of any kind. There is no additional charge for this copy.

Hot: A copy of the program may reside for backup purposes on a machine, is started, and is doing work. The customer must acquire a license or entitlements for this copy and there will generally be an additional charge.

Doing work includes, for example, production, development, program maintenance, and testing. It also could include other activities such as mirroring of transactions, updating of files, synchronization of programs, data or other resources (for example, active linking with another machine, program, database or other resource, and so on), or any activity or configurations that would allow an active hot switch or other synchronized switch over between programs, databases, or other resources to occur.

In the case of a program or system configuration that is designed to support a high availability environment by using various techniques (for example, duplexing, mirroring of files, or transactions, maintaining a heartbeat, active linking with another machine, program, database, or other resource), the program is considered to be doing work in the hot situation and a license or entitlement must be purchased.

IBM Operations Analytics - Predictive Insights V1.3.1

General charge terms

The resource for the purpose of RVU calculation is Metric Streams managed by the program. A Metric Stream is a time series variable extracted or sent from an external data source at regular intervals and imported and processed by the program's analytic algorithm. Examples include, but are not limited to, CPU usage, memory usage, packet delay, packet loss, dropped calls, HTTP requests, and video mean opinion score.

Sufficient entitlements must be obtained to cover the maximum number of Metric Streams analyzed by the program.

Resource Value Unit conversion table (VUE105A):

  • From 1,000 to 2,500 resources, RVUs per resource = 1 RVU for a maximum of 2,500 RVUs at this level (cumulative RVUs of 2,500)
  • From 2,501 to 5,000 resources, RVUs per resource = 0.8 RVU for a maximum of 2,000 RVUs at this level (cumulative RVUs of 4,500)
  • From 5,001 to 10,000 resources, RVUs per resource = 0.7 RVU for a maximum of 3,500 RVUs at this level (cumulative RVUs of 8,000)
  • From 10,001 to 30,000 resources, RVUs per resource = 0.65 RVU for a maximum of 13,000 RVUs at this level (cumulative RVUs of 21,000)
  • From 30,001 to 50,000 resources, RVUs per resource = 0.55 RVU for a maximum of 11,000 RVUs at this level (cumulative RVUs of 32,000)
  • From 50,001 to 100,000 resources, RVUs per resource = 0.5 RVU for a maximum of 25,000 RVUs at this level (cumulative RVUs of 57,000)
  • From 100,001 to 300,000 resources, RVUs per resource = 0.46 RVU for a maximum of 93,000 RVUs at this level (cumulative RVUs of 150,000)
  • From 300,001 to 500,000 resources, RVUs per resource = 0.4 RVU for a maximum of 80,000 RVUs at this level (cumulative RVUs of 230,000)
  • From 500,001 to 1,000,000 resources, RVUs per resource = 0.36 RVU for a maximum of 180,000 RVUs at this level (cumulative RVUs of 410,000)
  • For more than 1,000,001 resources, RVUs per resource = 0.32 RVUs

Pricing example

The required number of Metric Streams to be ingested by the analytics is 80,000 Metric Streams.

  • The total number of resources to be managed is 80,000 Metric Streams.
  • Convert the total volume to RVUs. Using VUE105A, 80,000 Metric Streams requires 47,000 RVUs.
  • The customer should purchase 47,000 licenses of Operations Analytics - Predictive Insights.

IBM Operations Analytics - Log Analysis V1.3.0

General charge terms

The resource for the purpose of RVU calculation is a gigabyte. A gigabyte is 2 to the 30th power bytes (1,073,741,824 bytes). Sufficient entitlements must be obtained to cover the highest 30-day rolling average of the daily number of gigabytes of data processed by the program.

Resource Value Unit conversion table (VUE103A)

  • From 1 to 20 resources, 1.00 RVU per resource
  • From 21 to 50 resources, 20.0 RVUs plus 0.83 RVUs per resource above 20
  • From 51 to 100 resources, 44.9 RVUs plus 0.80 RVUs per resource above 50
  • From 101 to 250 resources, 84.9 RVUs plus 0.76 RVUs per resource above 100
  • From 251 to 500 resources, 198.9 RVUs plus 0.60 RVUS per resource above 250
  • From 501 to 1,000 resources, 348.9 RVUs plus 0.50 RVUs per resource above 500
  • From 1,001 to 5,000 resources, 598.9 RVUs plus 0.47 RVUs per resource above 1,000
  • From 5,001 to 10,000 resources, 2,478.9 RVUs plus 0.40 RVUs per resource above 5,000
  • From 10,001 to 25,000 resources, 4,478.9 RVUs plus 0.36 RVUs per resource above 10,000
  • For more than 25,000 resources, 9,878.9 RVUs plus 0.33 RVUs per resource above 25,000

Pricing example

Example of 30 days of daily ingestion rate in gigabytes:

  Day 1 = 50 Day 11 = 50 Day 21 = 30
  Day 2 = 50 Day 12 = 90 Day 22 = 50
  Day 3 = 50 Day 13 = 50 Day 23 = 50
  Day 4 = 130 Day 14 = 50 Day 24 = 90
  Day 5 = 50 Day 15 = 50 Day 25 = 50
  Day 6 = 50 Day 16 = 50 Day 26 = 50
  Day 7 = 50 Day 17 = 50 Day 27 = 10
  Day 8 = 30 Day 18 = 90 Day 28 = 50
  Day 9 = 50 Day 19 = 50 Day 29 = 50
  Day 10 = 80 Day 20 = 50 Day 30 = 50

Calculation: The 30-day average is calculated by averaging the daily rate of ingestion over a 30-day rolling period, then converting that average to the applicable number of RVUs as shown in RVU conversion table VUE103A.

1. Add the daily ingestion rate for all 30 days. In this example, the total for 30 days is 1,650.

2. Divide the total by 30 to determine the average ingestion rate over 30 days. In this example, the average ingestion rate over 30 days is 55 gigabytes.

3. Convert the average 30 day ingestion rate of 55 gigabytes to RVUs using the VUE103A table. In this example, the applicable line is From 51 to 100 Resources, 44.9 RVUs plus 0.80 RVUs per Resource above 50. Therefore, the 55 gigabytes average is 44.9 RVUs plus 4 RVUs (.80 x 5) = 48.9, then rounded up to 49.

The result is that the customer should purchase 49 RVUs of Operations Analytics - Log Analysis.

Statement of good security practices
Bottom rule

IT system security involves protecting systems and information through prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside your enterprise. Improper access can result in information being altered, destroyed, or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely effective in preventing improper access. IBM systems and products are designed to be part of a comprehensive security approach, which will necessarily involve additional operational procedures, and may require other systems, products, or services to be most effective. IBM does not warrant that systems and products are immune from the malicious or illegal conduct of any party.

Increased uptime: The Electronic Service Agent™ tool is designed to enhance the Warranty or Maintenance Agreement by providing faster hardware error reporting and uploading system information to IBM Support. This can translate to less wasted time monitoring the symptoms, diagnosing the error, and manually calling IBM Support to open a problem record. Its 24x7 monitoring and reporting mean no more dependence on human intervention or off-hours customer personnel when errors are encountered in the middle of the night.

Security: The Electronic Service Agent tool is designed to be secure in monitoring, reporting, and storing the data at IBM. The Electronic Service Agent tool is designed to securely transmit either via the Internet (HTTPS or VPN) or modem to provide customers a single point of exit from their site. Communication is one way. Activating Electronic Service Agent does not enable IBM to call into a customer's system.

For additional information, refer to IBM Electronic Service Agent

More accurate reporting: Because system information and error logs are automatically uploaded to the IBM Support center in conjunction with the service request, you are not required to find and send system information, decreasing the risk of misreported or misdiagnosed errors. Once inside IBM, problem error data is run through a data knowledge management system and knowledge articles are appended to the problem record.

Customized support: Using the IBM ID entered during activation, you can view system and support information in the My Systems and Premium Search sections of the Electronic Support website at

http://www.ibm.com/support/electronic

My Systems provides valuable reports of installed hardware and software using information collected from the systems by Electronic Service Agent. Reports are available for any system associated with your IBM ID. Premium Search combines the function of search and the value of Electronic Service Agent information, providing advanced search of the technical support knowledgebase. Using Premium Search and the Electronic Service Agent information that has been collected from your system, you are able to see search results that apply specifically to your systems.
