Overview |
Toshiba CHEC eBOSS V6.7 is part of the CHEC software product offerings that support Toshiba Self Checkout. CHEC eBOSS enables retailers to remove the BOSS server from each store and centralize the BOSS capabilities on a single server at the retailer's central office for their enterprise. CHEC eBOSS V6.7 is enhanced to complement a powerful set of new features at the self-checkout lane that make self-checkout faster, easier, and more intuitive than ever before. These enhancements are described in Software Announcement 214-004, dated January 14, 2014 .
CHEC eBOSS offers retailers the choice to choose between an in-store BOSS (one per store), or a single centralized BOSS (eBOSS). With eBOSS, retailers can centralize the administration of shopper assistants, reports, user management, quick-lookup produce screens, and item security data. eBOSS provides a single enterprise-wide DB2® database that can be used to more deeply analyze the performance of self-checkout stores against key performance indicators.
CHEC eBOSS communicates to the self checkout lanes that utilize CHEC Client Application. In addition to the separate purchase of eBOSS server software for the central server, an eBOSS client connection license must be purchased for each self checkout lane using CHEC Client Application to connect to the Enterprise BOSS.

Technical information |
Specified operating environment
Hardware requirements
IBM xSeries server
The exact server model will depend on each retailer's individual needs and number of lanes.
Toshiba can provide retailers a customized recommendation for the IBM System x® server configuration, such as server model, processor, speed, memory, disks, and so on.
For more information, contact your Toshiba sales representative or engagement manager.
Software requirements
- CHEC Enterprise BOSS runs on Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit) or Windows Server 2012 R2 which must be purchased and licensed separately by the retailer.
- CHEC Enterprise BOSS V6.7 communicates to the self checkout lanes using CHEC Client Application V6.6 or V6.7 (PID number 5697-P01).
All connected self checkout lanes must first be running CHEC Client Application V6.6 or V6.7 before they can be connected to eBOSS.
- The following components are included in CHEC eBOSS V6.7:
- IBM WebSphere® Application Server (WAS) V8.5.5
- IBM DB2 Enterprise Edition V9.7
- Toshiba Remote Management Agent (RMA) V3
As stated in the terms of the CHEC license information, the software components comprised in the self checkout solution are for use with self checkout only. A separate license is required for using these products in the enterprise outside the self checkout environment.
- IBM Systems Director V6: The solution is designed to use IBM Director for enterprise management. The client or integrator must separately order IBM Director to fully utilize the Remote Management Agent functions. For more information on IBM Systems Director, refer to
Note that Software Maintenance Support for IBM Director needs to be purchased separately.
- eBOSS places additional requirements on the retailer's network between the central office and the stores. Additional information is available in the CHEC 6.7 Planning, Installation, and Maintenance guide.
- When migrating from CHEC BOSS Application in each store to CHEC eBOSS, or for stores that never had an in-store BOSS, retailers will require a system to run the RMA Master Agent (MA) for the lanes in each store. Toshiba recommends that the RMA MA run on the 4690 controller (V6.4 enhanced, or later), or on another Windows/Linux system in the store (refer to the RMA V3 User's Guide for a list of supported operating systems).
The program's specifications and specified operating environment information may be found in documentation accompanying the program, if available, such as a README file, or other information published by Toshiba, such as an announcement letter. Documentation and other program content may be supplied only in the English language.

Server
Server is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. A server is a physical computer that is comprised of processing units, memory, and input/output capabilities and that executes requested procedures, commands, or applications for one or more users or client devices. Where racks, blade enclosures, or other similar equipment is being employed, each separable physical device (for example, a blade or a rack-mounted device) that has the required components is considered itself a separate server. For the purpose of server-based licensing, licensee must obtain entitlements for each server that is made available to the program, regardless of the number of processor cores and partitions in the server or the number of copies of the program on the server.
Notes:
- Some programs may require licenses for the program and what is being managed. In that case, the following applies. In addition to the entitlements required for the program directly, licensee must obtain entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the servers managed by the program.
- Some programs may be licensed on a managed basis only . In that case, the following applies. Instead of the entitlements required for the program directly, licensee must obtain entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the servers managed by program.
Client device
Client device is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. A client device is a single-user computing device or special-purpose sensor or telemetry device that requests the execution of or receives for execution a set of commands, procedures, or applications from or provides data to another computer system that is typically referred to as a server or is otherwise managed by the server. Multiple client devices may share access to a common server. A client device may have some processing capability or be programmable to allow a user to do work. Examples include, but are not limited to, actuators, appliances, automated teller machines, automatic meter readers, cash registers, disk drives, desktop computers, kiosks, notebook computers, personal digital assistants, point-of-sale terminals, sensors, smart meters, tape drives, and technical workstations. Licensee must obtain entitlements for every client device that runs, provides data to, uses services provided by, or otherwise accesses the program and for every other computer or server on which the program is installed.

Statement of good security practices |
IT system security involves protecting systems and information through prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside your enterprise. Improper access can result in information being altered destroyed or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely effective in preventing improper access.
