Overview |
IBM SmartCloud Virtual Storage Center (VSC) V5.1 provides efficient virtualization management and data protection for heterogeneous storage environments. SmartCloud VSC V5.1 helps IT storage managers migrate to an agile cloud-based storage environment and manage it effectively without having to replace existing storage systems. This powerful offering removes the physicality of storage, as well as the complexity associated with managing multivendor infrastructures. It ultimately helps businesses to optimize provisioning, capacity, availability, data protection, reporting, and management for virtualized storage.
SmartCloud VSC V5.1 offers both a storage virtualization platform and capabilities for storage virtualization management. SmartCloud VSC V5.1 delivers to customers under one licensed software product the complete set of advanced functions available in IBM Tivoli® Storage Productivity Center, all the set of functions available with the virtualization, remote-mirroring and FlashCopy® capabilities of IBM System Storage® SAN Volume Controller (SVC), and all the capabilities of IBM Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager.
As such, SmartCloud VSC V5.1 offers the following advanced capabilities:
- Support for Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) protocol that allows use of converged data center infrastructures.
- Nondisruptive volume migration among SVC nodes that helps maximize configuration flexibility.
- A next-generation, web-based management interface that is designed to offer ease of use. The new user interface provides quick access to key storage asset, status, and performance information, and is based on the interface in the current IBM XIV® Storage System and other IBM storage systems.
- IBM Cognos-based reporting that helps create and integrate custom reports on capacity, performance, and utilization.
- Enhanced tiered storage capacity optimization capabilities that support varying optimization goals and automated relocation of storage and tier usage goals and provide policy-based relocation recommendations and reports.
- The ability to perform automated discovery and provisioning of file systems with IBM Scale Out Network Attached Storage (SONAS) and IBM Storwize® V7000 Unified.

SmartCloud Virtual Storage Center V5.1 offers both a storage virtualization platform and capabilities for storage virtualization management. SmartCloud Virtual Storage Center V5.1 delivers to you, under one licensed software product, the complete set of advanced functions available in IBM Tivoli Storage Productivity Center, all the set of functions available with the virtualization, remote-mirroring and FlashCopy capabilities of IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller (SVC), and all the capabilities of IBM Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager.
Tivoli Storage Productivity Center, the management component in SmartCloud Virtual Storage Center V5.1, is designed to provide advanced storage infrastructure and data management capabilities. The Tivoli Storage Productivity Center component available in SmartCloud Virtual Storage Center V5.1 includes all the capabilities of Tivoli Storage Productivity Center V5.1. It uniquely provides all the advanced functions that were available in the past as part of Tivoli Storage Productivity Center Standard Edition. Unique to SmartCloud Virtual Storage Center V5.1 then is the storage analytics engine that provides data management with file system and database scanning and analysis, data placement, user quotas, and a Tivoli Storage Manager interface. It provides best practices for configuration management, configuration change management, a storage optimizer, tiered storage capacity optimization and reporting, Storage Area Network (SAN) planning, and policy based management. The Tivoli Storage Productivity Center component also includes management and automation of data replication, and application programming interfaces (APIs) to help manage storage in virtual and cloud environments such as IBM Scale Out Network Attached Storage (SONAS) and IBM Storwize V7000 Unified. As with the other components of SmartCloud Virtual Storage Center V5.1, you may use the Tivoli Storage Productivity Center component independent of deploying any of the other components. When doing so, rather than counting the capacity to be licensed as the amount of storage managed by the SVC component (as you do with SmartCloud Virtual Storage Center V5.1), count the managed capacity to be licensed the same as you would for a Tivoli Storage Productivity Center V5.1 deployment. Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager, the data backup and restore component in SmartCloud Virtual Storage Center V5.1, provides fast application-aware backups and restores, leveraging advanced snapshot technologies available with IBM storage systems. It is designed to deliver high levels of data protection for business-critical applications via integrated application snapshot backup and restore capabilities. These capabilities are achieved through the utilization of advanced storage-specific hardware snapshot technology to help create a high performance, low impact application data protection solution. It is easy to install, configure, and deploy, and integrates well with various storage systems such as IBM Storwize V7000, IBM System Storage SVC, IBM System Storage DS8000® , and IBM XIV Storage System.
IBM System Storage SVC, the virtualization platform component in SmartCloud Virtual Storage Center V5.1, is designed to deliver storage virtualization in environments from large enterprises to small and mid-size organizations. It can help solve storage requirements growing at a fast rate and reduce the necessary costs to manage storage requirements that are taking over the IT budget.
Using the Global Mirror (remote mirror) function, IBM System Storage SVC is designed to provide options to help administrators balance network bandwidth requirements and recovery point objectives for applications, helping to reduce operating costs for disaster recovery solutions. It supports higher recovery point objective (RPO) times, providing the option to use a lower bandwidth link between mirrored sites. This lower bandwidth remote mirroring uses space-efficient, FlashCopy targets as sources in remote copy relationships to increase the time allowed to complete a remote copy data cycle. With the ability to remote mirror from one system to the other, you now have greater flexibility in your expanding environments using both IBM Storwize V7000 and IBM System Storage SVC in remote mirror relationships.

Refer to the respective section of hardware requirements documented in the announcements of IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller and IBM Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager products, referred to the Reference information section. Note that the hardware virtualization engine, used for the IBM SmartCloud Virtual Storage Center offering, may be a SAN Volume Controller machine type 2145 or a Storwize V7000 Control Enclosure machine type 2076. In either case, all managed storage capacity must be licensed, whether contained internally within the virtualization engine device or external to it.

Storage resource agent fabric configuration restrictions
The storage resource agent should not be configured to issue commands on any system that sends Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) commands over a fibre channel to a removable media drive. Removable media drives may not be able to queue commands sent by the storage resource agent under normal operations and it is likely to result in the application, using the removable media drive, to time out. This restriction can be addressed by not installing the storage resource agents on these systems, disabling the fabric functionality of the storage resource agent, or by configuring the storage resource agents to avoid the removable media systems.
Network Attached Storage (NAS) system requirements
The following requirements are for installing and running SmartCloud VSC V5.1 within a NAS environment.
Tivoli Storage Productivity Center server - not applicable. You cannot install the server component on a NAS filer. Refer to the Windows , UNIX , and Linux requirements for information about installing the server on different operating systems.
Agent - You must install the SmartCloud VSC ( Tivoli Storage Productivity Center) V5.1 data agents on machines that have access to the NAS filers that you want to monitor within your environment. The agent that is logging into and scanning the NAS filer is not required to be in the same domain as the user or the NAS filer. If you install the agent in a different domain than the NAS filer, which will be scanned by the agent, the domain of the agent machine must be a "trusted domain" from the perspective of the NAS filer's domain. You do not install agents to the NAS filers themselves.
Standalone client and command line interface (CLI) - not applicable. Refer to the Windows , UNIX , and Linux requirements for information about installing the client on different operating systems.
NAS - The NAS filers within your environment must be visible to the machines where you install SmartCloud VSC V5.1. NAS filers must be configured as a member of a Windows domain.
Tivoli Storage Productivity Center installability
For AIX and Linux x86, the Tivoli Storage Productivity Center database is automatically upgraded during the installation of Tivoli Storage Productivity Center server in the SmartCloud VSC V5.1 package. After this database upgrade, the user can no longer run a previous version of the Tivoli Storage Productivity Center server with the database.
As a normal precaution, it is recommended that a full database backup be performed before installing Tivoli Storage Productivity Center in the SmartCloud VSC V5.1 package, as well as after completing the installation.
As part of a migration plan from previous IBM Tivoli Storage Productivity Center versions, clients and servers may be upgraded at different times. After upgrading the server, you may use the Scheduled Agent Upgrade feature to plan and schedule the migration of supported clients to the levels included in SmartCloud VSC V5.1.
Notes
Note 1: On RHEL 6, a multiserver installation will be needed because the Tivoli Integrated Portal and Tivoli Common Reporting component can not be installed on RHEL 6.
Note 2: Support for IBM DB2 itself varies across different operating systems and hardware platforms. IBM DB2 9.5 with Fix Packs 4, 6, or later (Fix Pack 5 is not supported) and 9.7 require 64-bit kernel on Linux and AIX operating systems.

Licensing metric definitions
Tiered terabytes (1-100), (101-250), (251-500), (501-750), (751-1,250), (1,251- 2,000), (2,001+)
Terabyte (1-100), Terabyte (101-250) Terabyte (251-500), Terabyte (501-750), Terabyte (751-1,250), Terabyte (1,251-2,000), and Terabyte (2,001+) is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. Proofs of Entitlement (PoEs) are based on the number of terabytes available to the program. A terabyte is 2 to the 40th power bytes. Licensee must obtain sufficient entitlements required for licensee's environment. The entitlements are specific to the program and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with entitlements of another program.
Instead of the entitlements required for the Pprogram directly, licensee must obtain terabyte entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the storage managed by the program. The storage managed is the total allocated size of all volumes managed by the program.
Pricing example
SmartCloud VSC V5.1
SmartCloud VSC V5.1 uses a tiered terabyte (TB) pricing model. The model consists of seven tiers that are to be used cumulatively. All tiers must be used in order (begin with the first tier and move on to the second tier, and so on) to arrive at the desired total amount of TB.
Based on the actual TB tiers, the following example is an illustration, using variables for prices, that shows how to calculate the prices:

Ordering information for Passport Advantage
Passport Advantage allows you to have a common anniversary date for Software Subscription and Support (SW S&S) renewals, which can simplify management and budgeting for eligible new versions and releases (and related technical support) for your covered products. The anniversary date, established at the start of your Passport Advantage Agreement, will remain unchanged while your Passport Advantage Agreement remains in effect. New software purchases will initially include twelve full months of SW S&S (also referred to as Software Maintenance). SW S&S in the second year (the first year of renewal) can be prorated to be coterminous with your common anniversary date. Thereafter, all SW S&S will renew at the common anniversary date for twelve full months of SW S&S.
Refer to the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement and to the IBM Software Support Handbook for specific terms relating to, and a more complete description of, technical support provided through SW S&S.

Order handling
IBM SmartCloud Virtual Storage Center V5.1 (5608-W08) may be ordered through existing channels using the existing configurator and ordering tools. However, the fulfillment processes have been modified to improve customer records management associated with Software Subscription and Support (SW S&S), often referred to as Software Maintenance. SW S&S will be entitled through Passport Advantage or Passport Advantage Express .
5608-W08, when selected during configuration process with each hardware system, will be enabled for electronic download for the system unit for which the product was ordered. Optionally, software and license only configurations can be created for 5608-W08 based on existing supported hardware system units in your business environment. 5608-W08 is available exclusively via electronic download.
After receipt of an order, you will be required to register for, and accept, Passport Advantage or Passport Advantage Express terms and conditions. Upon registration, you will be provided with a website for the electronic download.
Passport Advantage allows greater flexibility to help you manage software licenses and Subscription and Support renewals. You can now have a common anniversary date for Subscription and Support renewals. The anniversary date, established at the order ship date for the initial product acquisition, will remain unchanged while your Passport Advantage or Passport Advantage Express agreement remains in effect.

Licensing
IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use. Part number products only, offered outside of Passport Advantage , where applicable, are license only and do not include Software Maintenance.

Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance
The IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance (Z125-6011) agreement applies for Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) and does not require customer signatures.
This program is licensed under the IBM Program License Agreement (IPLA) and the associated Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance, which provide for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available. This program has a one-time license charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours), as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect.

Limited warranty
IBM warrants that when the program is used in the specified operating environment, it will conform to its specifications. The warranty applies only to the unmodified portion of the program. IBM does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of the program or that IBM will correct all program defects. You are responsible for the results obtained from the use of the program.
IBM provides you with access to IBM databases containing information on known program defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at no additional charge. For further information, consult the IBM Software Support Handbook found at
IBM will maintain this information for at least one year after the original licensee acquires the program (warranty period).
Program technical support
Technical support of a program product version or release will be available for a minimum of five years from the general availability date, as long as your Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) is in effect. This technical support allows you to obtain assistance (via telephone or electronic means) from IBM for product-specific, task-oriented questions regarding the installation and operation of the program product. Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance) also provides you with access to updates (modifications or fixes), releases, and versions of the program. You will be notified, via announcement letter, of discontinuance of support with 12 months' notice. If you require additional technical support from IBM , including an extension of support beyond the discontinuance date, contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner. This extension may be available for a fee.
Money-back guarantee
If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program and you are the original licensee, you may obtain a refund of the amount you paid for it, if within 30 days of your invoice date you return the program and its PoE to the party from whom you obtained it. If you downloaded the program, you may contact the party from whom you acquired it for instructions on how to obtain the refund.
For clarification, note that (1) for programs acquired under the IBM International Passport Advantage offering, this term applies only to your first acquisition of the program and (2) for programs acquired under any of IBM's On/Off Capacity on Demand (On/Off CoD) software offerings, this term does not apply since these offerings apply to programs already acquired and in use by you.

Installation and technical support for the products announced in this announcement is provided by the Software Subscription and Support offering of the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement. This fee service enhances customer productivity by providing voice or electronic access into the IBM support organizations.
IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option.
While your Software Subscription and Support is in effect, IBM provides you assistance for your routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions, and code-related questions.
