IBM InfoSphere Warehouse V10.1 offers you a robust set of new functionality to more efficiently manage your data warehouses, help to reduce your costs, and improve your decision making ability with real-time analytics. InfoSphere Warehouse V10.1 also provides enhanced security management features and a robust set of management tools.
New functions
Optimized storage utilization
Multi-Temperature Data Management allows for grouping of hot, warm, and cold data on varying storage systems. You can now use different storage technologies to help optimize performance at the lowest possible cost. Storage can be allocated depending on data temperature, such as placing hot data on the fastest and most expensive Solid® State Disks (SSDs), while other data can reside on less expensive storage systems.
Multi-Temperature Data Management is integrated into DB2 Workload Manager to more easily prioritize queries, not only on "who" submitted the work or "what" type of work it is, but also on "where" the data resides. For faster performance, queries touching only hot data can be assigned higher prioritization than queries touching cold data.
Multi-Temperature Data Management is included in InfoSphere Warehouse Advanced Departmental Edition, InfoSphere Warehouse Enterprise Edition, InfoSphere Warehouse Advanced Enterprise Edition, and InfoSphere Warehouse Developer Edition.
Further storage savings with improved compression
Significant enhancements to the industry-leading compression technologies of InfoSphere Warehouse come with the new Adaptive Compression technology, which can help further reduce your storage needs. The enhancements are designed to deliver efficient compression of high amounts of new and changing data. The improved compression ratio further helps reduce storage needs and allows for more data in memory, therefore, helping to increase performance. The new approach used in Adaptive Compression also reduces the need for table reorganization. As a consequence, overall maintenance of compressed data is reduced, helping you achieve additional cost savings.
Adaptive Compression is included in InfoSphere Warehouse Departmental Edition, InfoSphere Warehouse Advanced Departmental Edition, InfoSphere Warehouse Enterprise Edition, InfoSphere Warehouse Advanced Enterprise Edition, and InfoSphere Warehouse Developer Edition. You can potentially be able to take advantage of InfoSphere Warehouse's leading compression technology under the terabyte (TB) charge metric for licensing their warehouse databases.
Easier business trend analysis and application development
Time Travel Query, based on the SQL 2011 standard, is integrated into the database engine and can help provide significant performance and manageability advantages. Time Travel Query provides the infrastructure for time-aware analytics to reduce the operational complexity of collecting and analyzing time-based data.
For both new and existing applications, Time Travel Query accelerates dynamic analysis of business trends and changes over time. Time Travel Query provides the flexibility to audit for change with system-controlled temporal data, and to analyze all kinds of temporal data including forward-looking data when using user-controlled temporal data. Time Travel Query functionality is included in all editions of InfoSphere Warehouse.
SPARQL and RDF datastore functions
InfoSphere Warehouse V10.1 can now be used as the Resource Definition Framework (RDF) datastore with built-in query processor and SPARQL support. With this support, you will be able to build highly scalable and reliable semantic data applications on the InfoSphere Warehouse platform. Application developers will have a flexible and expressive API to develop or be able to prototype applications rapidly where the schema is changing or where there is a wide spectrum of disparate entity types to be stored with evolving relationships between them. SPARQL query features, with open source Jena API, are supported. Utilities to create, load, and reorganize RDF data is provided. SPARQL and RDF datastore functions are in all editions of InfoSphere Warehouse.
Enhanced security features
Row and Column Access Control provides easy and flexible control over security access. With Row and Column Access Control, you can define the security policies that are optimal for your environment by creating permissions for rows and masks for columns based on rules defined for users, groups, and roles. This very fine granularity is designed to allow you to easily control access by roles such as departmental, supervisory, database administrators (DBAs), system administrators, and others, and allow for full separation of duty between security officers and DBAs. These enhancements to the security features and others are in all editions of InfoSphere Warehouse.
Performance enhancements
InfoSphere Warehouse V10.1 adds many enhancements to help further increase the performance of queries. Zigzag join is now available and is designed to deliver sub-second response time on complex multidimensional queries. Other join methods are also enhanced for memory usage efficiency, early predicate evaluation, support of expressions in predicates, as well as optimizer costing and query plan optimization. Additionally, you may now set the INTRA_PARALLELISM variable dynamically to optimize performance on multicore systems for specific applications or workloads. These and many more performance enhancements are available in all editions of InfoSphere Warehouse.
Continuous Data Ingest
Continuous Data Ingest allows you to add data to the data warehouse through two mechanisms: pipes and files. Using files to add data into the data warehouse allows for external sources to seamlessly ingest data in the warehouse efficiently and effectively. This gives the warehouse the ability to continuously receive data from operational external data sources in a more timely and active fashion. This seamless operation is due to the fact that it does not make a difference if the files were created by an external application or by DB2. For operational data warehouse environments, it provides for a nearly real-time responsiveness to the changing and dynamic business environment. Continuous Data Ingest is available for InfoSphere Warehouse Advanced Departmental Edition, InfoSphere Warehouse Enterprise Edition, InfoSphere Warehouse Advanced Enterprise Edition, and InfoSphere Warehouse Developer Edition.
Advanced tools for managing your data warehouses
Updates to InfoSphere Optim™ Tools help enhance the value of key InfoSphere Warehouse features including Time Travel Query, Row and Column Access Control, and Multi-Temperature Data Management. InfoSphere Optim Tools may allow you to more easily deploy, develop, and administer InfoSphere Warehouse and take advantage of the new features of V10.1 in empowering organizations to make active, timely, and informed decisions as business events occur. - Analyze access plan improvements and regressions based on new optimization strategies and get actionable recommendations for improvements. Optim Query Workload Tuner is now the one-stop-shop for query improvement recommendations subsuming all DB2 Design Advisor functions under its broader value-add capability.
- Use Optim High Performance Unload to unload, extract, and repartition data in InfoSphere Warehouse V10.1 databases. It helps to work with large quantities of data with less effort and faster results.
- Use DB2 Merge Backup to help create the fastest possible InfoSphere Warehouse backups for your production system so that you have full current backups available for shorter restore times. DB2 Merge Backup combines incremental and delta backups with the latest full backup to create a new and current full InfoSphere Warehouse backup.
- Use DB2 Recovery Expert to recover faster and with greater granularity than what is offered with traditional database recovery. The log analysis features enable organizations to monitor changes to a database and gives the DBA the capability to quickly restore or correct erroneous data using less resources and reducing data outages.
Additionally, Data Studio and Optim Query Workload Tuner are now tightly integrated to provide an improved startup experience. Users can now enable Optim Query Workload Tuner functionality with a simple license activation. Data Studio, which includes a rich set of developer and database administrator productivity tools, is the replacement of the legacy DB2 Control Center tools. Data Studio is available for all editions of InfoSphere Warehouse at no extra charge.

InfoSphere Warehouse has a component-based architecture that consists of three component groups: a data server, an application server, and a client. In a typical production environment, you install each of these component groups on different computers to form a complete warehousing solution.

Temporary space for installable images: If you are a Passport Advantage customer, before you can install the product, you must download the installation images to the target computer. These images contain the installation executable files for the components that you are installing. The temporary space that is required for these images is different from the space that is required to run the installation program. Approximately 1.2 GB of disk space is recommended for the installation images of the data server components. If you also download the installation images for the client components on the same computer, you need a total of 2.5 GB of disk space.
The recommended temporary space for running the installation program is approximately 1.5 GB of disk space.
Permanent space for the installed components:
- On Windows, approximately 1 GB of disk space is recommended for the installation directory of the data server components.
- On Linux and UNIX, approximately 1.4 GB of disk space is recommended for the installation directory of the data server components.
Memory requirements
Memory for installing the product: A minimum of 512 MB of memory is required to install the data server components.
Memory for running the product: A minimum of 1 GB of memory is required to run the data server components. If you run the client components on the same computer, 2 GB of memory is recommended.

Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) is included with licenses purchased through Passport Advantage and Passport Advantage Express®. Product upgrades and technical support are provided by the Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) offering as described in the Agreements. Product upgrades provide the latest versions and releases to entitled software, and technical support provides voice and electronic access to IBM support organizations, worldwide.
IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) with each program license acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available.

Note: Alphablox is debundled from the Infosphere Warehouse Enterprise, Departmental, and Optim Data Retention Editions, as well as from Enterprise Warehouse Feature for DB2. Customers with these editions will be given an entitlement to the equivalent number of PVUs or sockets (280 PVU per socket) of Alphablox so that they can choose to renew support on their next renewal anniversary. The AlphaBlox® component of InfoSphere Warehouse Developer Edition will be removed from the package.

The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities.

Charge metrics definitions
Authorized User Single Install
Authorized User Single Install is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. An Authorized User is a unique person who is given access to the program. An Install is an installed copy of the program on a physical or virtual disk made available to be executed on a computer. The program may be installed on any number of computers or servers, but if the Authorized User has accessed or has access to more than one Install of the program, the Authorized User requires a separate entitlement for each such Install. Licensee must obtain separate, dedicated entitlements for each Authorized User given access to the program on each Install in any manner directly or indirectly (for example: via a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means. An entitlement for an Authorized User is unique to that Authorized User and may not be shared, nor may it be reassigned other than for the permanent transfer of the Authorized User entitlement to another person.
Terabyte
Terabyte is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. A Terabyte is 2 to the 40th power bytes. Licensee must obtain an entitlement for each Terabyte of storage available to the program.
Processor Value Unit (PVU)
PVU is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. The number of PVU entitlements required is based on the processor technology (defined within the PVU Table by processor value, brand, type, and model number at
and the number of processors made available to the program. IBM continues to define a processor, for the purpose of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip. A dual-core processor chip, for example, has two processor cores.
Licensee can deploy the program using either full capacity licensing or virtualization capacity (sub-capacity) licensing according to the Passport Advantage Sub-Capacity Licensing Terms (refer to the webpage below). If using full capacity licensing, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores* in the physical hardware environment made available to or managed by the program, except for those servers from which the program has been permanently removed. If using virtualization capacity licensing, licensee must obtain entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores made available to or managed by the program, as defined according to the Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules at
* An activated processor core is a processor core that is available for use in a physical or virtual server, regardless of whether the capacity of the processor core can be or is limited through virtualization technologies, operating system commands, BIOS settings, or similar restrictions.

The information provided in this announcement letter is for reference and convenience purposes only. The terms and conditions that govern any transaction with IBM are contained in the applicable contract documents such as the IBM International Program License Agreement, IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement, and the IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance.
Licensing
IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use.
Part number products only, offered outside of Passport Advantage, where applicable, are license only and do not include Software Maintenance.

Limited warranty
IBM warrants that when the program is used in the specified operating environment, it will conform to its specifications. The warranty applies only to the unmodified portion of the program. IBM does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of the program or that IBM will correct all program defects. You are responsible for the results obtained from the use of the program.
IBM provides you with access to IBM databases containing information on known program defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at no additional charge. For further information, consult the IBM Software Support Handbook found at
IBM will maintain this information for at least one year after the original licensee acquires the program (warranty period).
Program technical support
Technical support of a program product version or release will be available for a minimum of five years from the general availability date, as long as your Software Maintenance is in effect. This technical support allows you to obtain assistance (via telephone or electronic means) from IBM for product-specific, task-oriented questions regarding the installation and operation of the program product. Software Maintenance also provides you with access to updates (modifications or fixes), releases, and versions of the program. You will be notified, via announcement letter, of discontinuance of support with 12 months' notice. If you require additional technical support from IBM, including an extension of support beyond the discontinuance date, contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner. This extension may be available for a fee.

For clarification, note that if for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program and you are the original licensee, you may obtain a refund of the amount you paid for it, if within 30 days of your invoice date you return the program and its PoE to the party from whom you obtained it. If you downloaded the program, you may contact the party from whom you acquired it for instructions on how to obtain the refund.
For clarification, note that for programs acquired under the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement, this term applies only to your first acquisition of the program.
For clarification, note that for programs acquired under any of IBM's On/Off CoD software offerings, this term does not apply since these offerings apply to programs already acquired and in use by you.

Software Subscription and Support applies
Yes. Software Subscription and Support is included with licenses purchased through Passport Advantage and Passport Advantage Express. Product upgrades and technical support are provided by the Software Subscription and Support offering as described in the Agreements. Product upgrades provide the latest versions and releases to entitled software and Technical Support provides voice and electronic access to IBM support organizations, worldwide.
IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support with each program license acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available.
While your Software Subscription and Support is in effect, IBM provides you assistance for your routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions, and code-related questions. IBM provides assistance via telephone and, if available, electronic access, to your information systems (IS) technical support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center. (This assistance is not available to your end users.) IBM provides Severity 1 assistance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For additional details, consult your IBM Software Support Handbook at
Software Subscription and Support does not include assistance for the design and development of applications, your use of programs in other than their specified operating environment, or failures caused by products for which IBM is not responsible under the applicable agreements.

Electronic Services is a web-enabled solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available for IBM servers. The Electronic Service Agent™ is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems. Installation and use of IBM Electronic Service Agent for problem reporting enables IBM to provide better support and service for your IBM server.
