DB2 10 for z/OS VUE delivers a one-time-charge (OTC) price metric for a database product offering based on DB2 10 for z/OS.
IBM DB2 10 for z/OS further builds upon the strength of DB2 9 with enhancements that deliver:
- "Out-of-the-box" DB2 CPU savings by improving operational efficiencies
- Unsurpassed resiliency for business-critical information
- Rapid application and warehouse deployment for business growth

DB2 10 for z/OS VUE terms limit its use to support net new applications or workloads on IBM System z servers that meet zNALC LPAR qualifications.
Only for use with eligible net new applications or workloads, Eligible Workloads are defined as workloads that meet the following criteria:
- A workload (excluding applications running under Lotus® Domino®) where DB2 10 for z/OS VUE has been qualified and approved through the zNALC qualification process as eligible to run in a zNALC LPAR.
- The workload must be a net new z/OS workload deployed in a zNALC LPAR at the time of licensing DB2 10 for z/OS VUE, and not an existing z/OS workload that a) is transferred or migrated to the zNALC LPARs from z/OS elsewhere in the enterprise or b) is already deployed in a zNALC LPAR within the enterprise. For example, an existing z/OS workload that would be or has been shifted across a border from one country to another, or from one data center to another, or that has been renamed or rewritten does not qualify as an Eligible Workload. Workloads that are migrated from non-z/OS sources, such as Linux®, UNIX®, or Windows®, may qualify as Eligible Workloads.
Copies of a valid licensed DB2 10 for z/OS VUE can only be made in support of its authorized use:
- On a single machine, in any zNALC LPARs where the Eligible Workload is deployed for use
- Within a Qualified Sysplex1, in any zNALC LPARs where the Eligible Workload is deployed for use
- In addition, copies can be made for use as a backup copy. If you want to deploy DB2 10 for z/OS VUE in any other separate zNALC environment, another DB2 10 for z/OS VUE license, with its own separate entitlements, has to be acquired.

DB2 10 for z/OS VUE consists of the base DB2 product and one nonchargeable feature:
- z/OS Application Connectivity to DB2 10 for z/OS VUE consists of a component known as the DB2 Universal Database™ Driver for z/OS, Java Edition. It is a pure Java, type 4 JDBC driver designed to deliver high performance and scalable remote connectivity for Java-based enterprise applications on z/OS to a remote DB2 for z/OS database server.
Charges for this program are based on an OTC per value unit plus a charge per value unit for Subscription and Support (S&S). Value Unit entitlements for the program will be computed based on MSUs. The S&S is paid annually at the then-current prices. Usage may not exceed the number of value unit entitlements authorized by the applicable Proofs of Entitlement or authorized by each product authorization. If the total number of value units exceeds the quantity of value unit entitlements in your Proofs of Entitlement, you must notify your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner as stated in the IPLA.

Value Unit-based pricing
Value Unit pricing for eligible IBM System z IBM International Program License Agreement (IPLA) programs enables a lower cost of incremental growth and enterprise aggregation. Each System z IPLA product with Value Unit pricing has a single price per Value Unit and a conversion matrix, called Value Unit Exhibit, for converting from some designated measurement to Value Units. Most commonly, Millions of Service Units (MSUs) is the measurement designated by IBM to be converted to Value Units. Some other measurements are engines or messages. Since MSUs are the most common measurement, that measurement will be used for the remainder of this description.
Value Unit pricing offers price benefits for you. For each System z IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, the quantity of that program needed to satisfy applicable IBM terms and conditions is referred to as the required license capacity. Each of the various Value Unit Exhibits stipulate that the larger your required license capacity, the fewer Value Units per MSU you will need. Value Unit Exhibits are uniquely identified by a three-digit code and referred to using the nomenclature VUExxx, where xxx is the three-digit code.
Subsequent acquisitions of Value Unit priced programs offer additional price benefits. The quantity of each System z IPLA program that you have acquired is referred to as entitled license capacity. If you wish to grow your entitled license capacity for a System z IPLA program, the calculation to determine additional needed Value Units is based upon the number of Value Units already acquired.
For each System z IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, you should:
- Determine the required license capacity, in MSUs
- Aggregate the MSUs across the enterprise
- Convert the total MSUs to Value Units, using the applicable Value Unit Exhibit
- Multiply the price per Value Unit by the total number of Value Units to determine the total cost

Subscription and Support
To receive voice technical support via telephone and future releases and versions at no additional charge, Subscription and Support must be ordered. The capacity of Subscription and Support (Value Units) must be the same as the capacity ordered for the product licenses.
To order, specify the Subscription and Support program number (PID) referenced above and the appropriate license or charge option.
IBM is also providing Subscription and Support for these products via a separately purchased offering under the terms of the IBM International Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance (IAASM). This offering:
- Includes and extends the support services provided in the base support to include technical support via telephone.
- Entitles you to future releases and versions, at no additional charge. Note that you are not entitled to new products.
When Subscription and Support is ordered, the charges will automatically renew a unless cancelled by the customer.
The combined effect of the IPLA license and the Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance gives you rights and support services comparable to those under the traditional ICA S/390 and System z license or its equivalent. To ensure that you continue to enjoy the level of support you are used to in the ICA business model, you must order both the license for the program and the support for the selected programs at the same Value Unit quantities.
If you purchased and are current with Subscription & Support for a particular System z IPLA program, you are entitled to no-charge version upgrades for that program. If you have Subscription & Support, you may run multiple versions of the System z IPLA program during 12-month grace period. The grace period begins when the new System z IPLA program is installed in the enterprise. Afterwards, it is expected that you will be migrated to the latest version. If you do not complete your migration within the grace period, IBM reserves the right to recalculate your required license capacity for the System z IPLA program by combining the MSUs of the old version and the new version.
Ordering z/OS through the Internet
ShopzSeries provides an easy way to plan and order your z/OS ServerPac or CBPDO. It will analyze your current installation, determine the correct product migration, and present your new configuration based on z/OS. Additional products can also be added to your order (including determination of whether all product requisites are satisfied). ShopzSeries is available in the U.S. and several countries in Europe. Single version charging
To elect single version charging, you must notify and identify to IBM the prior program and replacement program, and the machine the programs are operating on.
Customized Offerings
Product deliverables are shipped only via CBPDO, ServerPac, and SystemPac.
CBPDO and ServerPac are offered for Internet delivery in countries where ShopzSeries product ordering is available. Internet delivery reduces software delivery time and allows you to install software without the need to handle tapes. Licensing
IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use.
Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance
The following agreement applies for Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance) and does not require customer signatures:

Qualified Sysplex:
A Qualified Sysplex means a Parallel Sysplex in which z/OS is eligible for aggregated zNALC charges as described in the Charges section of the Attachment for zNALC License Charges on IBM System z.
Your license authorizes use of the DB2 for z/OS VUE only in validly licensed System z New Application License Charge (zNALC) LPARs for Eligible Workloads, which are defined as workloads that meet the following criteria:
- A workload (excluding applications running under Lotus Domino) that includes DB2 for z/OS VUE, where the DB2 for z/OS VUE has been qualified and approved through the zNALC qualification process as eligible to run in a zNALC LPAR.
- The workload must be a net new z/OS workload deployed in a zNALC LPAR
at the time of licensing DB2 for z/OS VUE, and not an existing z/OS workload that:
- Is transferred or migrated to the zNALC LPARs from z/OS elsewhere in the enterprise.
- Is already deployed in a zNALC LPARs within the enterprise.

Notwithstanding anything else in the IPLA, you are authorized to have copies of DB2 for z/OS VUE in support of your authorized use only:
- a) If qualified to be deployed on a single machine, in any zNALC LPARs in which the Eligible Workload is deployed for use.
- b) If qualified to be deployed within a Qualified Sysplex, in any zNALC
LPARs in which the Eligible Workload is deployed for use.
In addition, you may make a backup copy. If you wish to deploy a copy of DB2 for z/OS VUE in any other separate zNALC environment, you must acquire another license to DB2 for z/OS VUE with its own separate entitlements.
Charges for this program are based on Value Unit entitlements.
Calculation of Value Unit entitlements for this program
For programs that will be deployed for use on a single machine not part of a Qualified Sysplex, the Value Unit entitlement will be determined as follows:
- There will be a calculation of the number of Value Units which would equate to the total sum of the MSUs for any copies of DB2 for z/OS VUE on the machine, and the MSUs for all instances of the version of DB2 for z/OS that matches the version of DB2 for z/OS VUE (for instance, only where the version of DB2 for z/OS of such instances is the same as the version of DB2 for z/OS VUE on that machine.
- There will be a calculation of the number of Value Units which would equate to the MSUs for all instances of the version of DB2 for z/OS that matches the version of DB2 for z/OS VUE (for instance, only where the version of DB2 for z/OS of such instances is the same as the version of DB2 for z/OS VUE) on the machine.
- The number of required Program Value Unit entitlements will be the Value Units calculated in (1) minus the Value Units calculated in (2).
For programs that will be deployed for use in a Qualified Sysplex, the Value Unit entitlement will be determined as follows:
- There will be a calculation of the number of Value Units which would equate to the total sum of the MSUs for any copies of DB2 for z/OS VUE in the Qualified Sysplex, and the MSUs for all instances of the version of DB2 for z/OS that matches the version of DB2 for z/OS VUE (for instance, only where the version of DB2 for z/OS of such instances is the same as the version of the program) in the Qualified Sysplex.
- There will be a calculation of the number of Value Units which would equate to the MSUs for all instances of the version of DB2 for z/OS that matches the version of DB2 for z/OS VUE (for instance, only where the version of DB2 for z/OS of such instances is the same as the version of the program) in the Qualified Sysplex.
- The number of program Value Unit entitlements will be the Value Units calculated in (1) minus the Value Units calculated in (2).
No MSUs associated with any other instances of DB2 for z/OS shall be included with the program MSUs in the calculation to determine required Value Unit entitlements.
Example:
For the purpose of illustration only, assuming that the MSUs for the existing version of DB2 for z/OS which matches the version of DB2 for z/OS VUE which would be included in the calculations = 100, and the MSUs for the program itself = 30 (where the calculated Value Units for the copies of the program based on program MSUs alone would = 39):
- a) Assume that the calculated Value Units for the combined MSUs of the DB2 for z/OS and the program (that is, 100 + 30 = (130 MSUs) would = 81 (Step 1 above).
- b) Assume that the calculated Value Units for the applicable DB2 for z/OS (100 MSUs) would = 70 (Step 2 above).
- c) Then the number of Value Unit entitlements required for DB2 for z/OS VUE would be the difference between the Value Units in a and b = 11 (that is, 81 - 70 = 11).
Recalculation of Value Unit entitlements
There may be circumstances in which your Value Unit entitlements must be recalculated based upon changes to the environment and configuration, and additional Value Units will need to be purchased if your existing Value Unit entitlement is not sufficient. For example:
- If the utilization (for example, capacity) of your zNALC LPARs in which the Eligible Workload is deployed for use increases
- If the Eligible Workload is moved to another machine, into a Qualified Sysplex, or out of a Qualified Sysplex
- If the Value Unit entitlements you acquired were based on calculations that included MSUs associated with instances of DB2 for z/OS, and the MSUs associated with such instances decline
The program will be treated as a Parent Program for purposes of calculating charges for System z IPLA programs with Referenced-Based Terms, just as if the program were a monthly license charge DB2 program. Additional charges for IBM programs with Referenced-Based Terms licensed by you may apply, just as when adding MSU capacity to other DB2 Parent Programs. This program is a System z IPLA program with Execution-Based Terms for purposes of Sub-Capacity pricing.
Maintenance/support fixes provided for DB2 for z/OS may not be applied to the program. Subscription and Support for the program may be separately acquired.
The program requires you to indicate acceptance of the terms of this license at installation time.
IBM has the right to audit all machines and Qualified Sysplexes on which the program is installed to ensure compliance with all the terms of this license and the zNALC terms and conditions.
These programs are licensed under the IBM Program License Agreement (IPLA) and the associated Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance, which provide for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. These programs have a one-time license charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours), as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect.

Sub-capacity terms and conditions
Sub-capacity charges for DB2 10 for z/OS VUE
To be eligible for sub-capacity charges, the machine on which DB2 for z/OS VUE is running must be eligible for zNALC sub-capacity charges terms and conditions. The customer must sign the zNALC Attachment and the IPLA Sub-Capacity Amendment and have implemented Sub-Capacity by submitting a SCRT report.
With sub-capacity charges, the charge is based on the z/OS product-defined capacity. To obtain charges at less than full machine capacity for each machine, the customer should:
- Determine the MSUs needed for the machine on which DB2 10 for z/OS VUE will run. Use the product-defined capacity (MSUs) for z/OS (as specified on the Sub-Capacity Reports submitted to IBM for sub-capacity zNALC) as the sub-capacity (MSUs).
If the use of sub-capacity pricing terms for DB2 10 for z/OS VUE results in a reduced requirement for Value Units, thus freeing up entitlements, customers can reserve them for future growth. There will be no refunds for these freed up Value Units. Subscription and Support volumes and entitlements for existing contracts will continue to be at the same levels as the acquired licenses.
Management of the Value Unit entitlements continues to be a customer responsibility. If one of the following occur on a machine to which DB2 10 for z/OS VUE is licensed, the customer must determine if additional Value Units and Subscription and Support need to be ordered for those tools to cover the increase:
- The z/OS-defined capacity is increased.
- The requirements for zNALC sub-capacity charges are no longer met.
For each System z IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, the quantity of that program needed to satisfy applicable IBM terms and conditions is referred to as the required license capacity. Your required license capacity is based upon the following factors:
- The System z IPLA program you select
- The applicable Value Unit Exhibit
- The applicable terms
- Whether your current mainframes are full capacity or sub-capacity

In cases where full capacity is applicable, the following terms apply.
Execution based, z/OS based, full machine based: The required capacity of a System z IPLA program with these terms equals the MSU-rated capacity of the machines where the System z IPLA program executes.

Execution based: The required capacity of a System z IPLA sub-capacity program with these terms equals the capacity of the LPARs where the System z IPLA program executes.

For additional information for products with reference-based terms, System z IPLA sub-capacity programs with reference-based terms adds value to the parent program across the environment, regardless of where in the environment the System z IPLA program executes.
An environment is defined as either a single or stand-alone machine or a qualified Parallel Sysplex. You may have one or more different environments across the enterprise. To determine the required license capacity for each System z IPLA program with referenced-based terms, each environment should be assessed separately.
When a System z IPLA sub-capacity program with reference-based terms is used in a qualified Parallel Sysplex environment, the required license capacity of the System z IPLA program must equal with the license capacity of the parent program across the Parallel Sysplex. Qualified Parallel Sysplex refers to one:
- That meets the criteria defined in U.S. Hardware Announcement 198-001, dated January 13, 1998
- Where MLC pricing is aggregated across the sysplex
DB2 10 for z/OS VUE will be treated as a Parent Program for purposes of calculating charges for System z IPLA programs with Referenced-Based Terms, just as if DB2 10 for z/OS VUE were a monthly license charge DB2 program. Additional charges for IBM programs with Referenced-Based Terms licensed by you may apply, just as when adding MSU capacity to other DB2 Parent Programs.
Sub-capacity eligibility
To be eligible for sub-capacity charging for DB2 10 for z/OS VUE, you must first implement and comply with all terms of the zNALC Attachment. To implement sub-capacity, a machine must be System z (or equivalent). On that machine:
- All instances of the OS/390® operating system must be migrated to the z/OS operating systems
- Any licenses for the OS/390 operating system must be discontinued
- All instances of the z/OS operating (or z/OS.e) systems must be running in z/Architecture® (64-bit) mode
For that machine, you must create and submit a Sub-Capacity Report to IBM each month. Sub-Capacity Reports must be generated using the Sub-Capacity Reporting Tool ("SCRT"). For additional information or to obtain a copy of SCRT, visit the System z Software Pricing website
You must comply with all of the terms of the zNALC offering, whichever is applicable:
- The complete terms and conditions of sub-capacity zNALC are defined in the IBM Customer Agreement.
Sub-capacity utilization determination
Sub-capacity utilization is determined based on the utilization of an eligible operating system and machine (for example, z/OS running in z/Architecture (64 bit) mode on a System z (or equivalent) server).
Sub-capacity utilization is determined based on the product's own execution as reported to IBM in accordance with the requirements for reporting sub-capacity utilization for products.
On/Off Capacity on Demand (CoD)
To be eligible for On/Off CoD pricing, you must be enabled for temporary capacity on the corresponding hardware, and the required contract, Attachment for IBM System z On/Off Capacity on Demand (Z125-7883) must be signed prior to use.
