Some of the features include server-managed provisioning, and cross-platform support for the Lotus
Domino® server. The Smart Upgrade capability within Lotus Domino software will support moving
previous Lotus Notes® clients to this new release. There is improved multi-directory integration.
A sampling of the added value includes mail recall and new cluster replication technology that
improves replication performance and can reduce network usage.

|
IBM Lotus Domino for z/OS 8 software is the next installment of the security-rich messaging and collaboration platform. This release includes improvements in performance, administration, serviceability, and, in most cases, total cost of ownership (TCO).
Benefits include:
- Server-managed provisioning
- Multi-directory integration improvements provided through limited entitlement to IBM Tivoli® Directory Integrator that accompanies Lotus Domino 8 software
- Added value that includes mail recall and new cluster replication technology that helps improve replication performance and can reduce network usage
IBM Lotus Domino server software combines reliable, security-rich e-mail, calendaring, and scheduling capabilities with a powerful platform for business collaboration. It offers solutions for messaging, customized business applications, or both. Lotus Domino software in combination with the rich Lotus Notes® client can enhance employee productivity, streamline business processes, and improve overall business responsiveness.
The IBM Lotus Domino for z/OS 8 software supports an open application infrastructure. This new version will enable you to deploy composite applications in Lotus Notes 8 software and extend Web services support including:
- Lotus Domino software support for composite applications, including the ability to provision composite applications
- Web services consumer support, which allows Lotus Domino applications to "call" other Web services
With improved manageability and security features, Lotus Domino 8 software builds on its position as the most flexible, secure, and integrated messaging and collaboration server. A few highlights here are:
- Numerous improvements in the Lotus Domino domain monitoring feature, including additional event probes and corrective actions
- Improved AdminP performance and management to increase rename speed
- Policy management of Inbox cleanup to help manage Inbox sizes
- Ability to prevent access to Internet password fields in the Lotus Domino directory
- Internet account lockout due to password entry failure
There is also improved performance and scalability such as:
- Brand new cluster replication implementation that can significantly improve performance and reduce I/O requirements and latency
- "Build on first use" sort order feature to help significantly improve server performance, reduce storage costs, and reduce I/O requirements
- Numerous additional performance and I/O reduction improvements

New licensees
Orders for new licenses of Lotus Domino for z/OS 8 can be placed now.
Lotus Domino for z/OS 8 shipments will not occur before the availability date.
Unless a later date is specified, orders entered before the planned availability date will be assigned a schedule date of one week following availability.
Shipment will begin on the planned availability date.
- Orders entered after the planned availability date will be assigned a schedule date for the week following order entry.
New users of Lotus Domino for z/OS 8 should specify:

Parallel Sysplex® License Charge (PSLC) basic license: To order a basic license, specify the program number and quantity of Service Units in Millions (MSUs).
If there is more than one program copy in a Parallel Sysplex, the charge for all copies is associated to one license by specifying the applicable PSLC license options and quantity represented by the sum of the Service Units in Millions (MSUs) in your Parallel Sysplex. The NLS CD-ROM includes English and the following translations: Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Swedish, Finnish, and Brazilian Portuguese.
As refreshes (updates due to function and service) are provided to the above CD-ROMs, these will be automatically sent to customers on record for the above feature numbers.

Media type for this software product is chosen during the Customized Offerings ordering process. Based on your customer environment, it is recommended that the highest possible density tape media is selected. Currently offered media types are:

- ServerPacs — 3480, 3480 Compressed, 3490E, 3590, 35921

- 3592 is highest density media. Selecting 3592 will ship the fewest number of media.
Once a product becomes generally available, it will be included in the next ServerPac and SystemPac monthly update.
Production of software product orders will begin on the planned general availability date.
- CBPDO shipments will begin one week after general availability.
- ServerPac shipments will begin two weeks after inclusion in ServerPac.
- SystemPac shipments will begin four weeks after inclusion in SystemPac due to additional customization and data input verification.
