Knowledge: V5.17 delivers item management and optimizes BOMs across disciplines, enhancing product structure control visibility and collaboration.
Flexible item-centric, life-cycle management, with full support of an organization's business rules, maximizes control over product maturity, enhancing quality. V5.17 seamlessly integrates all business logic and life-cycle behaviors at the item level, allowing item management to serve as the backbone of and organization's PLM solution, for greatest return on investment. V5.17 new item life-cycle management best practices enables a product's items to be moved to any engineering state at any time, enhancing the organization's ability to react swiftly to ensure product quality and maturity, and supporting engineering configuration management and concurrent engineering scenarios.
For BOM-based engineering companies, Item Management is the basic backbone for managing product maturity. ENOVIA SmarTeam gives full control over an item's engineering state, applying go/no-go rules and enabling the non-sequential promoting/demoting of an items routing. It integrates, configures and embeds all of an item's business logic, and propagates it across the life cycle.
Seamless "design-to-configure" BOM generation and compare, promotes best-practice engineering processes, saving time and reducing errors. The new BOM best practice seamlessly creates and updates the engineering BOMs (E-BOMs) during design, including those from ENOVIA SmarTeam's multi-CAD solutions. Accelerated access to the E-BOM enhances bidding, cost evaluation, and other business functions through to production.
Enhanced platform robustness, delivering multiple views, enriched copying and editing, and greater usability, promotes BOM collaboration across disciplines. "Design-to-Configure" process solution
Automatic BOM creation and update from CAD Integrations: SMARTEAM BOM provides a seamless work method with predefined settings based on best practices for automatic BOM creation and update from the CAD integration, through simple "save" or specific life-cycle operation, such as "Release". In this manner, the E-BOM is created automatically upon design, benefiting the entire organization for various purposes in very early stages. For example, the procurement department can send bids to suppliers for long-lead items, compare quotes, and order from as early as the design phase, saving time, and money. Any change in the design will automatically update the relevant item line in the BOM, and will maintain other BOM items, intact.
Design items that are not part of the BOM, such as Jigs and Fixtures, will be manually flagged out from the creation or update of the BOM, thus providing accurate structure. The proper BOM structure is propagated throughout the organization, minimizing errors, eliminating item redundancy, and expediting processes.
This capability is available from any ENOVIA SmarTeam CAD Integration (not applicable for SMARTEAM MI Integration (MII)), as well as upon demand directly from SMARTEAM Editor (EDR), and requires a license of SMARTEAM BOM (BOM).
Comparison of Document tree to Engineering BOM: SMARTEAM BOM enables users to easily compare a Document tree with its corresponding Item tree through an automatic, out-of-the-box, predefined Compare tool. In this manner, users are empowered with improved decision-making, taking into consideration design changes, and their implications on the BOM Items. In a concurrent engineering environment, whereby multiple engineers relate to a single source of an Engineering BOMs, they are able to retrieve the most relevant E-BOM representation.
This capability is available from any SmarTeam CAD Integration (not applicable for SMARTEAM MI Integration (MII)), as well as upon demand directly from the SMARTEAM Editor (EDR), and requires a license of SMARTEAM BOM (BOM).
Integration of the SmarTeam 'Design-to-Configure' solution directly from within each of SmarTeam multi-CAD Integrations empowers collaborative engineering scenarios, and provides unique competitive value.
Item behavior and life-cycle management: Item Management is the basic backbone for BOM-based engineering companies. It addresses all product maturity phases across a product's life cycle, and providing an efficient framework for covering Engineering Configuration Management scenarios.
The typical Engineering Configuration Management scenario is about establishing a process for identifying and defining Configuration Items, and recording, reporting the status, and verifying the completeness and correctness of them.
SMARTEAM BOM manages the physical and the logical relationship of engineering data by supporting specific data manipulation and features as follows.
Item life-cycle management is the core enabler for Item Management. In V5.17, SMARTEAM BOM provides flexible and configurable Item life-cycle rules in order to address complex Engineering Configuration Management scenarios.
In V5.17, ENOVIA SmarTeam introduces a new and extremely powerful concept in item life-cycle management, which is called, "Go-to State" Item Management. Depending on their actual status, items can be shifted back and forth to any engineering state, including all behavior and business rules that relate to that state. The "Go-to State" Item Management greatly enhances an engineering organization's ability to react swiftly and flexibly to the development engineering and manufacturing reality, promoting or demoting an Item to another state, as the situation demands in accordance with enterprise rules.
The "Go-to State" concept delivers a new, highly flexible Item Behavior definition that includes diverse, pre-defined, yet flexible item life-cycle statuses, specific properties for each state, business rules, and an engine that drives items between states, based on these rules. An organization can use the core Item Behavior definition to rapidly define the states relevant to their needs, such as "Design-for-Prototype", "Release-for-Planning", and "Release-for-Mass Production".
SMARTEAM BOM's "Go-to State" concept promotes the optimal management for an item over the course of the item's life cycle, enhancing the engineering process to ensure item quality and maturity.
SMARTEAM BOM's Item life-cycle management capabilities are applicable for both complete Item Structures as well as for Single Items, and their corresponding flexible business rules. Item life-cycle management provides the following capabilities:
- Grant "Lock Structure", "Revise" (New Item Revision) and "Public" properties to any Item's life-cycle state
- Allow Product Structure filtering according to complex life-cycle revision rules, based on Revision/State/Phase
- Demote and Inactive operations for Items life cycle
Product behavior and multiple views management: SMARTEAM BOM delivers an out-of-the-box environment for defining and managing the product throughout its life cycle. This environment enables manufacturers to handle:
- Overall product information as a single structured source of data
- Several configurations throughout the life cycle
- Multiple versions and efficient revision control
- Different revision rules on different item structures and dynamic filtering criteria
- Item Product relations and definition of various Product Views for items top assemblies
- Product families, models and Configuration Items
- Alternative sets of items
SMARTEAM BOM supports alternative configuration views of the product and its Item structures. SMARTEAM BOM's powerful Multiple Views configuration management environment optimizes product development and knowledge reuse processes across the enterprise.
Views functions include:
- Ability to open a "Configuration View" from an Item
- "Where Used" and "Composed of" operations across various Configuration Views
- Easy "Drag and Drop" of Items and Assemblies across Multiple Views
- "Mass Change" across Multiple Structures by "Revised" life-cycle operation "Link to Parents of previous revisions"
BOM editing capabilities: The BOM Editor provides several structure representation modes, such as multi-level and single-level quantity-based representations, BOM Summary mode and a configurable item location validation mechanism, such as reference designator for electronic components or balloon numbers for mechanical engineering. Item multi appearance (Instantiation) mode efficiently represents manufacturing BOMs, with operational sequence per location capabilities.
The embedded BOM Editor empowers the user with an easy-to-use editing environment, enabling:
- Full editing capabilities
- In-session highlighting
- Multi-cell "In-cell" editing
- Notes & Comments
- "Wise" bulk replace for replacement of all Item appearances within a specified BOM
- Summary BOM mode for quantity calculation
- Filtering rules
- Ability to export data to Excel
- History of changes tracking
- Multi- and single-level representation modes
Generic Copy tool and Mapper utility: A unique and powerful Generic Copy tool combines object structures copy and synchronization capabilities. It is based on data model business rules that enable mapping of various object classes and attributes, and provides enterprise users with continuous structured data flow and transformation on top of different data model implementations, such as from a "Requirements BOM" to "Cost BOM" from a CAD Design structure to Engineering BOM and so on.
The pre-configured Generic Copy tool:
-
Enables the creation and management of complex product structures, with configuration management
rules applied.
Users can:
- Copy structures from any given class to any class
- Use existing objects or create new ones
- Provides support for multiple views, combined with the required management tools for creation, manipulation and synchronization of views
- Enables workflow automation on BOM changes
- Incorporates suppliers and sub-contractors in an easy, secured approach, using data exchange tools
In addition, the Generic Copy tool:
- Maps "Not in BOM" business rules
- Synchronizes structures in various phases (not only upon initial creation)
- Fully supports "FFF" (Form, Fit, Function) revision rules and changes through structure consolidation
- Operates in a silent mode for auto-synchronized views, within the CAD environment
Usability: Change naming titles and labels in UI SMARTEAM BOM user interface has been updated in order to support the new BOM concept, which distinguishes between fully embedded Item and BOM management capabilities in SMARTEAM Editor (EDR) and capabilities that enable off-line BOM handling based on the ENOVIA SmarTeam Briefcase tool.
New installation procedure: V5.17 introduces a new installation procedure for SMARTEAM Editor (EDR), whereby SMARTEAM BOM and SMARTEAM Workflow components are fully embedded components within the SMARTEAM Editor installation.
SMARTEAM BOM includes two embedded components for:
- Item Management, product structure handling and multiple views and embedded BOM Management
- Engineering data exchange using Briefcase and supported utilities
The SMARTEAM BOM license provides both capabilities. For additional information, please read the Installation Guide available on the documentation CD-ROM.

Usability
-
Report generation and print capability
Users can generate reports of the reconciliation session in order to view, for example, the reconciled documents, and the rules that were applied. The report layout can be customized by defining an XSL (eXtensible Stylesheet Language) file. The report is displayed in an HTML viewer format, and is printable.
-
Document View
A new tab called VPDM View displays a Document tree similar to the one shown in CATIA View but representing the structure stored in the ENOVIA SmarTeam database. The VPDM View displays a Document tree based on the expanded identified root Document. The identification between CATIA and ENOVIA SmarTeam Documents is displayed in the VPDM view.
-
ENOVIA SmarTeam profile card attributes are available from the contextual menu
Complete profile card details of a selected reconciled document are available in the SEE contextual menu.
-
Automatic queries, identification and reconciliation rules upon pre-defined settings
Pre-defined settings for queries, identification and reconciliation rules enable users to automatically apply them for all CATIA documents, and in a single operation upon launch of the SEE application. This drastically saves the user's time. Upon completion of this step, users are free to modify the proposed identification and/or the rule.

The integration of the ENOVIA SmarTeam "Design-to-Configure" solution, as described in SMARTEAM BOM enhancements, directly from within each of ENOVIA SmarTeam multi-CAD Integrations empowers collaborative engineering scenarios, and provides unique competitive value. This capability requires a license of SMARTEAM BOM (BOM).
- Latest CAD version certification
SMARTEAM CATIA Integration (CAI)
Latest version support: SMARTEAM CATIA Integration product support CATIA V5.17, V5.16, and V5.15
Intact, bi-directional life-cycle operations: Users can activate all life-cycle operations options from either the CATIA environment or the ENOVIA SmarTeam environment, maintaining complete data integrity. This ergonomic gain enables user to create and manage design in a seamless manner, and directly from their active work area.
3D XML support: SMARTEAM CATIA Integration supports 3D XML file format as an alternative preview file format. 3D XML file formats contain both 3D representation and product-structure information. Administrators can easily customize the database to generate 3D XML files instead of, or in addition to the CGR files for CATProduct previews. The 3D XML format, just as the CGR format, enables users to easily view and analyze the product structure directly from the viewer (the ENOVIA SmarTeam embedded Dassault Systemes 3D PLM Viewer) for the benefit of other members in the organization.
Users can also insert this lightweight 3D XML Internet file format into a Word document, as well as send the file in an e-mail to suppliers or any non-CAD user, thus incorporating them into the three-dimensional experience.
Download 3D XML Viewer for free at
Drawing multi-sheet preview support: The embedded 3D PLM viewer enables CATIA users to view all drawing sheets, rather than just the active sheet level.
Inserting a component in a Project Browser mode: Users can now easily insert a component by browsing the project hierarchy, and selecting the appropriate document the same as is done for open or replace component command. The administrator can easily define the "insert component" options, for example, from an ENOVIA SmarTeam search, or any other way. In this manner, companies can enforce best-practice use of ENOVIA SmarTeam, offering the preferred work method.
Maintaining revision-managed structure accuracy during file modification ("Replace with selected revision" on modified CATPart documents)
ENOVIA SmarTeam enables users to unload outdated files during file modification, as well as propagating the change to the entire CATIA structure, thus maintaining data accuracy, and making it available to other concurrent users, ENOVIA SmarTeam revision management mechanism synchronizes the vault with the user work area, and maintains CATIA structure accuracy.
The CATIA structure remains updated as users unload outdated documents, and upload selected document revisions even during file modification, using the "Replace with Selected Revision" command. Another example is when checking out a parent assembly, which needs to propagate to its hierarchical dependencies. Outdated revisions of the assembly components will be unloaded and replaced by updated ones.
Performance
-
Optimized opening of large assemblies and Catalog Browsing
ENOVIA SmarTeam now optimizes CATIA file transfer between the vault and the user's work area, and extracts only the necessary files from the vault, while maintaining all links consistency. In this manner, ENOVIA SmarTeam eliminates redundant files in the work area and provides faster upload time.
-
Remote databases with local vault (pseudo WAN)
In V5.17, ENOVIA SmarTeam provides improved response time performance for database requests in multiple site scenarios, where a local site, which is not on the same network as the central ENOVIA SmarTeam database is sending request to the Database. In this configuration performance improvement is dependent on the latency of the network. In some configurations, users can save up to 50% time.
Integration in CATIA Knowledge programming language: By integrating to CATIA programming language, ENOVIA SmarTeam identifies and adheres to rules that are set in CATIA, for example while inserting appropriate components for ENOVIA SmarTeam to CATIA.
In the context of CATIA Knowledge Advisor (KWA) product, when defining reactions to an event, the SMARTEAM CATIA Integration enables users to perform dedicated ENOVIA SmarTeam related actions, such as "Insert & Replace" component by ones stored in ENOVIA SmarTeam. The KWA product allows users to define "reactions". A reaction is a way to perform dedicated actions upon an occurrence of a specific event. Examples of events include:
- Instantiation and update of a user-defined feature
- Objects Drag & Drop
- Insert/Replace component (creation, destruction, update, attribute changes)
The system is open and customized. It supports a large scale of actions upon occurrence of events. Customization can be made via the following ways:
- In Knowledge language to access existing objects in the document
- In VisualBasic to extend action scope. It can access the source object and its arguments.
In V5.17, two new methods are defined in knowledge language:
- InsertByURL Inserts a Product or an Item stored in the ENOVIA SmarTeam database into an assembly opened by a CATIA session.
- ReplaceByURL Replaces an instance in the assembly by a Product or an Item stored in the ENOVIA SmarTeam database.

SmarTeam User Companion Fundamentals (SUS) has no prerequisite. This product is only available through the SmarTeam User Companion Fundamentals configuration (5x9x-SUC).
SmarTeam User Companion for CATIA Integration (CIS)
Leverage users' knowledge from CATIA V5 Fundamentals to collaborative design in ENOVIA SmarTeam. This course has been developed to enable CATIA designers to take full benefit of the embedded PLM environment provided by ENOVIA SmarTeam.
At the end of this course, designers will be able to use advanced capabilities, such as relational design and concurrent engineering. They will also learn how to make the most of ENOVIA SmarTeam's collaborative environment infrastructure. The course flow is based on a gradual learning curve that takes the student from a foundation to expert level. The user should already be familiar with the SmarTeam Fundamentals (SUS) and CATIA Mechanical design (MDS) Companions.
What's new in V5.17: A V5.16 to V5.17 update course is available, and the SMARTEAM Web Editor course is now more interactive with many simulations, dynamic detailed steps, roll-over images and 3DXML images. One new course, called Supply Chain Engineering Exchange is available to cover SMARTEAM CATIA Supply Chain Engineering Exchange (SEE). In the context of expanding production networks, fast and reliable product data exchange between Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) and their partners is a key element in PLM. This course focuses on the bidirectional exchange of engineering packages between CATIA and ENOVIA SmarTeam. More specifically, the user will learn how to perform generic reconciliation operations, export data, and define reconciliation rules. The learning objectives for this course include:
Perform generic operations, such as
- Define integration settings
- Set the reconciliator environment
- Create a work package
- Perform queries
- Apply reconciliator rules
- Prepare ENOVIA SmarTeam to receive product data
- Reconcile data
- Perform operations on reconciled data
Product highlights
- Learn CATIA Integration in a simulated environment
- Getting started with CATIA V5 Integration in an ENOVIA SmarTeam environment

- Access information upon request
Product key added value
- This product offers a large coverage of SMARTEAM CATIA Integration, which allows users to learn collaborative design and help reuse legacy design to morph their product to meet their specifications.
- This is a basic course and it might be helpful to add it to your company's methods. Any ENOVIA SmarTeam or CATIA customization can be presented and explained in dedicated skillets added on top of the basic list of CATIA Integration User Companion Fundamental skillets.
- It is advisable to add the user's own best practices in CATIA Integration User Companion with WLS Studio.
- A powerful keyword-based search engine is available to enhance the user's skills in any given aspect of the product when needed.
- The content is designed to stay simple and match with SMB data management expectations thanks to its flexibility and ease of use. With CATIA Integration User Companion Fundamentals user's do not need a PDM expert at their side to learn the ENOVIA SmarTeam CATIA integration and to step into the collaborative design world.

Additional details on previously announced functions: The WLS Companion Server facilitates deployment by eliminating the need to install the license function and complete user companion Java client on individual student machines. Instead, the server runs these functions using a J2EE application server software, such as IBM WebSphere or Apache Tomcat.
The standard WLS user companion installation, whether in a file standalone mode or HTTP page server mode, requires a full Java client and WLS license to be installed on each student client machine. The Companion Server consolidates these functions on a single machine to streamline the licensing process and to improve user companion response time.
Note:
In Software Announcement

Template Product, which was withdrawn from marketing at that time, was available in SMARTEAM
Editor (EDR) Product. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the error.

Software requirements
SMARTEAM Multi-site provides the means to configure and work in an environment where each vault has a parallel vault on all other sites. For Vault Server system requirements, refer to the SMARTEAM Foundation Vault Server software section.
-
Prerequisites
- A server called RepliWeb Deployment Suite (RDS), which is used to replicate files between sites.
- A service called RepliWeb Drive Mapper (RDM), which compliments the RDS server. RDM is required only in cases where RDS is running under a Win32 environment, and the Vault directories reside on another computer than the vault server machine.
Installations of these two programs are not included on the SMARTEAM Multi-site CD-ROM. Code must be downloaded from the SmarTeam Web site accessible through the IBM support site at
SmarTeam Corporation provides a free license of RDS in case both of the following conditions are in place:
- The platform is either Win32 or Linux.
- The host computers do not have more than two CPUs.
In case RDM is required, and the conditions for a free license of RDS are in place an RDM license will also be provided free of charge by SmarTeam Corporation. Each Vault site requires an RDS installation. RDS can be installed on Windows, Linux or UNIX.
- In a Win32 environment, RDS should be installed on the Vault Server machine.
-
If the vault directories reside on Linux or UNIX, there are two possible
RDS configurations:
- Recommended (for performance reasons) RDS is installed directly on the Linux/UNIX machine.
- Optional RDS is installed on the Vault Server machine.
Full details on specific supported operation system platforms for RDS can be found in the following link
Notes
- Customers may choose to use a different file replication tool available in the market.

- A Microsoft implementation of OpenGL libraries as delivered with Windows 2000 and Windows XP. These libraries may have to be modified to accommodate the selected graphics adapter when installing the graphics adapter and its associated drivers. For recommendations related to driver levels based on certified configurations, visit
- A localized version of the operating system may be required when the selected installation locale differs from Latin 1, a character set used in HTML documents.
Note: For remote access from networked clients, Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Advanced Server, and Windows XP Professional Edition support Terminal Server. Access through standard browsers also requires Citrix MetaFrame 1.0 to be installed on the server.
Access to product information
Product information is delivered with the product CDs in HTML format. An HTML browser is required to access this documentation. Online documentation may be installed and used only in the same supported operating environments as WLS V5 for ENOVIA SmarTeam.
-
In a Microsoft Windows environment, one of the following browsers is
required:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer at a minimum level of 6.0
- Mozilla 1.4 with the Java plug-in installed
- In a UNIX environment, Mozilla 1.4 with the Java plug-in installed
In addition to a Java-enabled Web browser, the Java Plug-in at level 1.4 is required to search online documentation. For Microsoft Windows, only the 1.4 plug-in distributed by Sun is supported. It can be downloaded from
Although access to the online documentation might work on other HTML browsers, incidents specific to browsers other than those specified are not eligible for support.
Product information is also supplied with the product CDs in Portable Document Format (PDF) form. Viewing and printing of the PDF files requires the Adobe Acrobat Reader at a minimum level of 5.0. The latest level of the reader can be downloaded, at no charge, from
Prerequisites for the license management environment
Microsoft Windows workstations must have an active LAN card (Ethernet or token ring) and TCP/IP installed and properly configured, even in the case of nodelock keys, though for nodelock there is no need to have the workstations connected to the network. No additional license management software is required when accessing nodelock license keys.
License Use Management (LUM) is required to serve concurrent license keys across a network. A LUM configuration file (i4ls.ini) is required on WLS V5 for ENOVIA SmarTeam clients to access concurrent license keys from these servers. Server license management mechanisms are available for all supported operating environments. Nodelock licensing management mechanisms are only available on supported Windows environments.
IBM LUM level:
- V4.6.8 + Patch 4.6.8.3 is the certified, recommended level.
- V4.6.5 is the minimum level for UNIX, Windows 2000 Professional, Server, Advanced Server, or XP license key servers.
- V4.6.7 is the minimum level for Windows Server 2003 license key servers.
- V4.6.5 is the minimum level when the High Availability Licensing (HAL) mechanism offered by LUM is used.
- V4.6.8 supports LUM service across a firewall and other new features. ( However, this behavior is not currently supported by ENOVIA SmarTeam Products. )
Various release levels of LUM, including LUM V4.6.8 + Patch 4.6.8.3, can be downloaded at no charge from
WLS license management Licenses can be managed either using standard CATIA V5 licensing or by using the J2EE Companion Server. For standard licensing, refer to the Prerequisites for the license management environment section. Requirements for the J2EE Companion Server are:
- Application server setup The application server used must support Servlet 2.4 and JSP 2.0 and must be able to handle the Companion Server WAR or EAR files. These files are copied during installation if the application server option was selected during the installation procedure. The server setup operation depends on the application server used and must be done by the system administrator.
- Companion application setup for license serving The application server machine must be able to access WLS licenses, and licenses must be available to this server machine. For the Enterprise Option, the total number of licenses must be equal to the maximum number of students that will be connected at the same time to the application server.
For details about LUM license management for WLS V5 for ENOVIA SmarTeam, refer to the CATIA V5 license management model section.

Licensing
ENOVIA SmarTeam V5 delivers licensing mechanisms that are based on LUM on Windows or UNIX servers, shareable amongst Windows clients.
LUM
Network access to LUM server 4.6.8 Patch 3 is required to serve concurrent license keys across a network.
LUM 4.6.8 Patch 3 Runtime Servers can be used on Windows or UNIX license servers, as supported by IBM.
For the latest information on LUM refer to the IBM Web site at
IBM License Use Management Runtime software V4.6.8 is delivered with the full set ENOVIA SmarTeam CD-ROMs, or may be obtained from the LUM Web site at no charge.
Although LUM 4.6.8 itself supports LUM keys served through a firewall, this system configuration is currently not supported by ENOVIA SmarTeam products.
Important: LUM 4.6.8 cannot be used on virtual machines for nodelocked or server installations.
LUM's High Availability Licensing feature may be used with ENOVIA SmarTeam. LUM Dynamic license management and Offline Concurrent Licenses are not supported. Users of the CATIA integrations should take special note of this restriction, as CATIA itself does support these functions for its native add-on and shareable products.
Specific license keys
Specific licensing procedures for obtaining license keys other than LUM are needed for RepliWeb's RDS and RDM, which enable Vault replication within SMARTEAM Multi-site, within the ENOVIA SmarTeam product portfolio. Licenses and license keys are provided by SmarTeam Inc.
For detailed licensing procedures for those products, refer to the License Program Specification (LPS) document.

The predecessor product is discontinued upon installation of the new version. For purposes of data model migration and validation, a customer may continue to use the predecessor product for up to three months without IBM approval, but may not use both the new version product and the predecessor product simultaneously for productive purposes at any time. If both licenses are used simultaneously the customer will be subject to the full PLC and recurring charges that apply to the replacement program, as well as the recurring charges applicable to the predecessor program. The three-month parallel usage of the replacement and predecessor product may be extended to more than three months on an individual basis with prior IBM approval.

ENOVIA SmarTeam Packaging and Products
The ENOVIA SmarTeam packaging model gives customers an easy way to select the solution best suited to their user profiles and process requirements. At the heart of this model are the following:
- Platforms
- Solutions
- Configurations
- Products
Platforms and Solutions
ENOVIA SmarTeam solutions, their configurations, and products address typical customer profiles. ENOVIA SmarTeam provides basic applications in a suite of feature-based solid modeling solutions that comply with Microsoft Windows user interface guidelines. These solutions offer a familiar production environment for users who are already comfortable with native Windows applications.
Configurations
Configurations provide a convenient and attractive way for customers to order and install a selected combination of products appropriate to a particular user profile as a single licensed offering. Configurations can be used in either of two licensing modes:
ENOVIA SmarTeam add-on and shareable products require a license for a configuration that includes at least the prerequisite products. License keys for ENOVIA SmarTeam configurations are acquired and released for the total configuration. The functions within a configuration cannot be shared.
A configuration is required for each ENOVIA SmarTeam seat. There are two types of configurations:
- Standard Configurations: Contain a predefined set of functions and products, corresponding to the most common user profiles across industries and processes. These configurations are offered at an attractive price compared to the sum of the prices of the individual products. Any number of shareable products can be ordered to complement a standard configuration.
-
Custom Configurations:
Customize any standard configuration by adding SmarTeam add-on products. Custom configurations
allow customers to adapt configuration content to specific user needs while still benefiting from
competitive configuration pricing.
A custom configuration can be ordered for one seat, or an unlimited number of identical seats. The number of each add-on product in a custom configuration must equal the number of base configurations ordered. Regardless of the number of seats ordered, a custom configuration order will generate a single serial number and will have a single license assigned. After installation, any changes made to the base configuration must be applied to all seats under that serial number.
After initial installation, configurations allow customers to manage the evolution and growth of configurations by ordering additional add-on or shareable products.
Products
Products are the elementary software building blocks for ENOVIA SmarTeam installations. Products may be ordered in three ways:
- As a predefined set of products included in a standard configuration
- As add-on products on top of a standard configuration to build a custom configuration.
- As a shareable product . In this case the product is delivered with its own license key. Shareable products allow one user to obtain the key at the beginning of the session, or to leave it for another user within the network.
System program order (5628-SMT)
To ship machine-readable materials and publications and to register for future updates, one System Program Order (5628-SMT) must be placed in addition to the basic license orders.
Within the System Program Order, specify the Media Feature Number for each of the workstation platforms you will be using, and the feature code of the Solution products you are ordering, based on the following tables:

ENOVIA SmarTeam adheres to the CATIA V5 license management model (exceptions are noted).
CATIA V5 license management model
CATIA controls the number of concurrent users of a CATIA configuration or product, according to the number of license keys acquired for the configuration or product.
CATIA V5 delivers identical license management mechanisms on UNIX and Windows environments, based on IBM LUM. ( ENOVIA SmarTeam is Windows only. ) The following license management principles apply:
- A CATIA V5 configuration (standard or custom) will require a license key. ( In ENOVIA SmarTeam, configurations are implemented with separate Product license keys. ) License keys for CATIA V5 configurations are acquired and released for the total configuration. The products within a configuration cannot be shared. ( In ENOVIA SmarTeam, this rule may not be strictly enforced. However, it should be adhered to, as it may be enforced in future releases. )
- Each CATIA V5 shareable product will require a license key, in addition to one for the prerequisite configuration and any prerequisite product, if applicable.
- In all cases, CATIA configuration license keys are acquired at the beginning of the process and are released at its termination.
- CATIA V5 add-on (AOP) and shareable products may require license keys for prerequisite products that are not already included in a standard configuration. Prerequisites for shareable products can be satisfied by a standard configuration, by an AOP within a custom configuration, or by a shareable product. However, because all add-on products are defined within one custom license key, any AOP prerequisites must be satisfied by either a standard configuration or by other AOPs purchased and defined within the same custom configuration. ( Due to the mentioned exception, this rule does not apply in ENOVIA SmarTeam. However, it should be adhered to, as it may be enforced in future releases. )
CATIA V5 can be used in three license management modes: nodelock, with concurrent usage of license keys on a network, or concurrent offline license management. ( ENOVIA SmarTeam does not support concurrent offline license management. )
Nodelock usage: The use of a local display is mandatory for CATIA V5 usage in nodelock mode. There is no limit to the number of CATIA V5 processes launched for a given license key (configuration or product). For instance, a user can launch the following simultaneous processes:
- A V5 interactive session
- A V5 process executed through an OLE container application
- Replay of macros recorded from captured sequences of V5 user interactions
In the nodelock mode of operation, only one CATIA license key per configuration and shareable product can be registered per machine, and only one CATIA user can run at a time on that machine. If multiple license keys per configuration or shareable product, or multiple users on a single machine, are required, refer to the Concurrent usage section.
Concurrent usage: A user on one machine on one display uses one license key per configuration or shareable product used, regardless of the number of processes. If the display changes, then an additional license key is taken for the corresponding process.
Dynamic license management: ( Does not apply to ENOVIA SmarTeam dynamic license management is not supported in ENOVIA SmarTeam. ) CATIA shareable product license keys can be acquired and released during the session. (The ability to acquire and release licenses is not available for configurations.) Shareable license keys acquired at the beginning of the session cannot be released before the end of the session; only license keys dynamically granted upon user request during the session can be released during the session.
Concurrent offline license management: ( Does not apply to ENOVIA SmarTeam concurrent offline license management is not supported in ENOVIA SmarTeam. ) A concurrent license key control technique is available via the LUM server. It gives CATIA, ENOVIA DMU, DELMIA, and RADE applications running on a Windows laptop the ability to disconnect from the license key server for a specific period of time. During the checkout period, the server license key is unavailable for use by another concurrent user. This feature is designed to add additional flexibility to a user's work environment. It is offered to accommodate short-term travel needs and collaboration while away from a fixed office environment or server connection. All ICA terms and conditions, including cross-border licensing terms, are unchanged, and users will check-out and check-in license keys at their home server, where rules and procedures are controlled by LUM.
Note to users of the following ENOVIA SmarTeam-branded CATIA integration products:
- CATIA Team PDM Configuration (TDM)
- CATIA Integration Product (CAI)
These ENOVIA SmarTeam products do not support dynamic or concurrent offline license management. Licenses for these products are acquired dynamically when the function is invoked from CATIA and may not be released until the CATIA session is ended.

Program services
Program Services offer a method of reporting code-related problems for ENOVIA SmarTeam V5 and WLS licensed software products. Program Services are available electronically using the problem submission process at the PLM Technical Support Web site at
Note: In order to use this facility, you must use an IBM ID which has associated to it the licensed IBM customer number under which the product was purchased. If you have not yet obtained an IBM ID, visit
If you have not yet associated the licensed IBM customer number to your IBM ID, you will be prompted to do so when accessing the problem submission facility.
When using Program Services, the problem report is submitted via the PLM Technical Support web site; all subsequent communications will be via e-mail. The response time for these problem reports, regardless of the severity, will be within two business days. All communications must be in English.
Not all options of the PLM technical support e-services are available in all countries.
If the problem reported is not known to be a code-related problem, the customer will be informed that work will continue on it provided the customer has ECSR (Electronic Customer Support Representative) enhanced support (reference PRPQ 5799-C88) with the ENOVIA SmarTeam support feature. Enhanced support for WLS is included in the base product's feature code; no separate enhanced support is required.
For additional information about the enhanced support contract and other available PLM services offerings visit
Click on the "ECSR Enhanced support details" link or contact your PLM marketing representative or authorized IBM Business Partner for more information.
Preventive Service is delivered through the next release of ENOVIA SmarTeam V5 products. The new release also includes corrections to problems, depending on the time of their submission and their severity.
During the Program Services period, Corrective Service for ENOVIA SmarTeam V5 releases is delivered through service packs on a regular basis. A service pack includes corrections for Blocking problems in production systems reported on this release and all corrections available for all components at the time it is built. Service packs are provided at the same time for all platforms currently supported. Each service pack supersedes the previous one and may be installed on top of the released level or on top of a previous service pack. The exception is WLS products where corrective service is provided in the next release of the product. No maintenance for WLS products is provided in the service packs.)
Customers may request a correction via a service pack for Blocking Problems. A Blocking Problem is defined as:
- A problem that stops production: The customer is currently using the level for which a fix is requested in a production environment.
- A problem that prevents migration: The customer must provide the migration plan.
- A problem that halts testing of a given level: A fix will allow customer to continue the testing.
- Installation problem: A problem that prevents the customer from installing or using the product.
- Regression: Problems reported as regressions may be due to an operation that was being performed erroneously or created incorrect data with a previous release and the current release no longer permits these operations. Therefore, each problem reported as a regression must be evaluated. True regressions will be handled as Severity 1 problems.
Note: Customers experiencing problems with DB2 UDB V8.2 delivered with the ENOVIA SmarTeam V5 product may report these problems through PLM product support, as long as DB2 UDB is being used in conjunction with ENOVIA SmarTeam and the DB2 and ENOVIA SmarTeam products are still within their respective support periods. Customers will receive the same level of support as they are entitled to for their ENOVIA SmarTeam products.
Customers experiencing problems with IBM LUM products when used with ENOVIA SmarTeam V5 products may report these problems through PLM product support. Note this only applies when the LUM product is being used in conjunction with an ENOVIA SmarTeam V5 product and the ENOVIA SmarTeam product is within its support period. LUM products are not included in the enhanced support offering; LUM problems will receive the Program Services level of support and must be submitted via the Problem Reporting process at the PLM Technical Support Web site at
Program Services will be provided for this release of ENOVIA SmarTeam and WLS V5 products until September 29, 2008.
