Organizations must optimize their understanding of their data, which requires that they automate the painstaking process of discovery and classification, uncover sensitive data at rest in both structured and unstructured sources, map the movement of sensitive data in motion, and enrich data with business context to analyze how data is ultimately utilized. However, discovery and classification are often semimanual processes that consist of gaps: for example, scanning on-premises but not cloud, scanning structured data but not unstructured, or scanning data in motion but not data at rest. These gaps can impact an organization's ability to track the journey of sensitive data. And with the increasing interest and sensitivity regarding ways in which enterprises worldwide handle this data, coupled with a growing threat landscape and list of high-profile breaches, it is critical to implement tools that can address the historical discovery and classification shortcomings.

Security Discover and Classify is designed to provide organizations with a better understanding of the full lifecycle of their sensitive data; from how it moves throughout a complex data source environment to where it resides. And because Security Discover and Classify is a solution that is built on zero trust principles with the goal of helping organizations optimize their understanding of their sensitive data, data governance and security teams can preserve data privacy and meet the demands of compliance regulations and consumers worldwide.

Through automation of manual discovery and classification processes across structured and unstructured data in motion and data at rest, both in the cloud and on-premises; AI and ML to build robust relationships maps and understand business context to give a deep understanding of each byte of sensitive data; and modern, distributed, and agentless architecture to accelerate deployment and reduce resource and time investment, Security Discover and Classify delivers a platform that can give a holistic, contextual understanding of the most critical data within an organization.

Security Discover and Classify 2.8 offers the following capabilities:

  • Autonomous scanning of traffic both inside and outside of the network means that all elements involved in storing, processing, and sharing personal data can be scanned -- across any data source that might be processing sensitive data, whether known or unknown to the organization -- giving a holistic view of sensitive data use with little need for resource-intensive manual direction of discovery and classification tasks.
  • Near real-time visibility into context and location of sensitive data enables teams to assign policy at the data asset level, helping adhere to the growing list of data security and privacy regulations.
  • Workflows for data subject access requests (DSAR), entity configuration and identification, and the tagging of repositories and networks to specific business and operational rules enable organizations to more easily comply with requests for sensitive data and help ensure that the organizations understand the context around that data on a granular level.
  • Structured and unstructured data can be scanned across all cloud and on-premises data sources, and a relationship map can be built between the personal data in those sources and the data subject to which that data relates. This enables organizations to evaluate risk level of different security events across the data environment.
  • Distributed architecture, agentless deployment, and the combination of security, privacy, and compliance in one platform can reduce time spent on maintenance, lower the error rate requiring less manual oversight, and reduce redundancy. The Security Discover and Classify console is extensive and purpose-built for easier deployment, maintenance, and management, enabling data teams to spend less time configuring and more time discovering.

As a part of the IBM Security portfolio, Security Discover and Classify can enrich decision-making in organizations that also use IBM Security Guardium® for data security and protection, as well as directly integrate with IBM Security SOAR in IBM Cloud Pak® for Security to help determine where to focus threat response. The information provided in this announcement letter is for reference and convenience purposes only. The terms and conditions that govern any transaction with IBM are contained in the applicable contract documents such as the IBM International Program License Agreement, IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement, and the IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance.

Licensing

IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use. Part number products only, offered outside of Passport Advantage, where applicable, are license only and do not include Software Maintenance.

This software license includes Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance).

Software Maintenance

These programs are licensed under the IBM Program License Agreement (IPLA) and the associated Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance, which provide for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available. These programs have a one-time license charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours), as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect.

Limited warranty applies

Limited warranty

IBM warrants that when the program is used in the specified operating environment, it will conform to its specifications. The warranty applies only to the unmodified portion of the program. IBM does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of the program or that IBM will correct all program defects. You are responsible for the results obtained from the use of the program.

IBM provides you with access to IBM databases containing information about known program defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at no additional charge. For further information, see the IBM Support Guide.

IBM will maintain this information for at least one year after the original licensee acquires the program (warranty period).

Program technical support

Technical support of a program version or release will be available for a minimum of two years from the planned availability date, as long as your Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) is in effect.

This technical support allows you to obtain assistance by electronic means from IBM for product-specific, task-oriented questions regarding the installation and operation of the program product. Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance) also provides you with access to versions, releases, and updates (CD releases, Long Term Support Releases or fixes) of the program. You will be notified, through an announcement letter of discontinuance of support with six months' notice.

If you require additional technical support from IBM, including an extension of support beyond the discontinuance date, contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner. This extension may be available for a fee.

Money-back guarantee

If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program and you are the original licensee, you may obtain a refund of the amount you paid for it, if within 30 days of your invoice date you return the program and its PoE to the party from whom you obtained it. If you downloaded the program, you may contact the party from whom you acquired it for instructions on how to obtain the refund.

Product upgrades provide the latest versions and releases to entitled software, and Technical Support provides voice and electronic access to IBM support organizations, worldwide.

IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support with each program license acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available.

While your Software Subscription and Support is in effect, IBM provides you assistance for your routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions, and code-related questions. IBM provides assistance by telephone and, if available, electronic access, only to your information systems (IS) technical support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center. (This assistance is not available to your users.) IBM provides Severity 1 assistance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For additional details, see the IBM Support Guide. Software Subscription and Support does not include assistance for the design and development of applications, your use of programs in other than their specified operating environment, or failures caused by products for which IBM is not responsible under the applicable agreements.

Unless specified otherwise in a written agreement with you, IBM does not provide support for third-party products that were not provided by IBM.
