IBM Sterling® Intelligent Promising, a cloud solution, enables retailers to make profitable and reliable delivery and pickup promises to their e-commerce customers using omnichannel inventory and fulfillment capacity. The solution combines cost, capacity, distance, and schedule information with advanced rules and calculations to help make profitable “order by, get by” promises at the speed and scale needed for digital commerce, helping to improve conversion rates and customer experiences for both digital and walk-in customers.

Sterling™ Intelligent Promising works alongside existing order management capabilities to make fulfillment promises at the scale and speed needed for digital commerce. It is built to augment or replace an existing e-commerce inventory cache, with a highly scalable architecture capable of delivering subsecond response times to digital shoppers. Sterling Intelligent Promising provides a real-time view of inventory, supply, and demand across the entire fulfillment network. It also provides unified prepurchase and post-purchase promising logic to help retailers satisfy the need to make reliable promises to their customers and profitable promises for their business.

Benefits of Sterling Intelligent Promising

Designed to improve customer experience and conversion rates:

  • Provide an accurate and up-to-date view of all inventory available to promise for each location and fulfillment method
  • Confidently share accurate “order by, get by” promise dates with customers
  • Provide promise dates on product list page, product details page, cart, and checkout while maintaining real-time response times
  • Motivate customers to act quickly by notifying them when quantities are limited
  • Offer flexible fulfillment options to remain competitive in the ever-evolving retail environment by letting shoppers choose how and when they want their orders picked up or delivered
  • Reduce stockouts and order cancellations by using an accurate view of inventory, fulfillment capacity, and schedules in a single promising engine that manages both prepurchase and post-purchase sourcing and scheduling decisions

Designed to improve profitability of inventory and fulfilment operations:

  • Use calculated shipping costs, calculated fulfillment capacity, and predefined rules and cost drivers for distance, processing costs, capacity, services, schedules, and transportation in promising logic
  • Improve inventory utilization by making fulfillment decisions based on a single, real-time view of all inventory available-to-promise in your network
  • Understand the factors driving promise dates, including the different cost factors, processing times, and schedules for the fulfillment locations considered
  • Look for additional cost savings during post-purchase sourcing and scheduling by using multi-objective optimization

Designed to improve data confidence with more automation and less manual intervention:

  • Adapt to dynamic, high-demand environments that experience high volumes of inventory and promising queries and reservations, and that require mass inventory updates across multiple, distributed systems
  • High-speed, scalable promising service that is capable of making promising decisions in real time across thousands of locations
  • Microservices architecture that lets customers deploy visibility and promising microservices independently, enabling a phased adoption
  • Predefined data integration connectors to carrier aggregation services that can reduce implementation times

Meeting customers' expectations with transparent, reliable fulfillment promises helps retailers increase sales through higher conversion rates, reduced stockouts, and drive higher profits from their inventory and fulfilment operations.

Statement of good security practices

Top rule

IT system security involves protecting systems and information through intrusion prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside your enterprise. Improper access can result in information being altered, destroyed, or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely effective in preventing improper access. IBM systems and products are designed to be part of a regulatory compliant, comprehensive security approach, which will necessarily involve additional operational procedures, and may require other systems, products, or services to be most effective.

Important: IBM does not warrant that any systems, products, or services are immune from, or will make your enterprise immune from, the malicious or illegal conduct of any party.
