As the newest edition to the IBM Db2 Warehouse family, Db2 Warehouse for Linux on System z rounds out the IBM hybrid data warehouse strategy, providing organizations with the most flexible architecture needed to lower the cost model of analytics in the dynamic world of big data and the cloud.
Db2 Warehouse for Linux on System z uses a common SQL engine, with different deployment options across private and public clouds to enable organizations to move and optimize analytics workloads with ease. Db2 Warehouse is now an option when you prefer deployment on a hosted private cloud or on-premises private cloud through a software-defined infrastructure.
From an IT standpoint, Db2 Warehouse simplifies deployment and management through container technology, with elastic scaling and easy maintenance. From a user standpoint, Db2 Warehouse provides the speed required to quickly cycle through the process of data acquisition, applies the right analytics to meet a specific use case, and operationalizes the insights.
Organizations are also able to leverage existing data warehouse investments through a hybrid data warehouse architecture centered around Db2 Warehouse. Complexities in moving application workloads across the ground and the cloud are removed, as Db2 Warehouse is highly compatible with Pure Data System for Analytics/Netezza® and Oracle. In addition, Db2 Warehouse leverages Common SQL engine which is part of Db2 Warehouse as a fully managed service on the cloud as well. This enables you to move workloads across these options without application change.
As data volumes and the number of analytics requests grow, a traditional data warehouse can have difficulty supporting all of the heavy analytics and functions required in higher volume processing. To meet new analytics requirements, IT organizations can turn to a hybrid architecture. This solution provides opportunity to help lead business transformation by delivering a flexible environment that parallels how the business really wants to operate. Hybrid data warehouse primes IT to prove its strategic value to the business by quickly deploying the right workload to fit the right analytics need:
- Offers high-performance high performance analytic services to successfully meet time-sensitive business initiatives
- Manages escalating costs through a software-defined architecture
- Enables cloud-like agility for workloads that cannot run on a public cloud

Virtual Processor Core
Virtual Processor Core is a unit of measure by which the Program can be licensed. A Physical Server is a physical computer that is comprised of processing units, memory, and input/output capabilities and that executes requested procedures, commands, or applications for one or more users or client devices. Where racks, blade enclosures, or other similar equipment is being employed, each separable physical device (for example, a blade or a rack-mounted device) that has the required components is considered itself a separate Physical Server. A Virtual Server is either a virtual computer created by partitioning the resources available to a Physical Server or an unpartitioned Physical Server. A Processor Core (commonly called a processor or CPU) is a functional unit within a computing device that interprets and executes instructions. A Processor Core consists of at least an instruction control unit, and one or more arithmetic or logic unit. A Virtual Processor Core is a Processor Core in an unpartitioned Physical Server, or a virtual core assigned to a Virtual Server. Licensee must obtain entitlement for each Virtual Processor Core made available to the Program.
Note: Some programs may require licenses for the Program of the lesser of the sum of all virtual cores or all physical cores. In that case, the following applies. For each Physical Server, Licensee must have sufficient entitlements for the lesser of 1) the sum of all available Virtual Processor Cores on all Virtual Servers made available to the Program or 2) all available Processor Cores on the Physical Server.

IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available. These programs have a one-time license charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours), as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect.

IT system security involves protecting systems and information through intrusion prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside your enterprise. Improper access can result in information being altered, destroyed, or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely effective in preventing improper access. IBM systems and products are designed to be part of a regulatory compliant, comprehensive security approach, which will necessarily involve additional operational procedures, and may require other systems, products, or services to be most effective.
Important: IBM does not warrant that any systems, products, or services are immune from, or will make your enterprise immune from, the malicious or illegal conduct of any party.
