Description

Top rule

Wazi Developer 1.3 enables application developers to analyze, develop, build, test, and deploy z/OS application code with modern tools through three main components: Wazi Code, Wazi Sandbox, and Wazi Analyze.

Wazi Code

The Code component of IBM Wazi Developer enables the development of COBOL, PL/I, HLASM, and Restructured Extended Executor (REXX) programs through the use of an industry-standard IDE. The Code component offers essential developer capabilities that include edit, build, and debug across different IDE options. It includes interactive access to z/OS systems with the Code component. It also integrates with modern source code managements such as Git. The Code component can help developers unfamiliar with z/OS and the IBM Z mainframe get up to speed and develop and deliver applications. IDE options include Wazi Developer for VS Code, Wazi Developer for Workspaces, and Wazi Developer for Eclipse.

Wazi Developer for VS Code

Wazi Developer for VS Code extends the functions of Microsoft™ Visual Studio (VS) Code to provide z/OS developers with a familiar and straightforward edit, build, and debug experience. IBM enterprise language support in Microsoft VS Code is aimed at making enterprise programming more attractive and productive by enabling developers to use this popular editor, with the option to integrate numerous other extensions from the Microsoft VS Code marketplace.

Wazi Developer for Workspaces

Wazi Developer for Workspaces is a development environment that provides an in-browser IDE that can be used to code, build, test, debug, and run applications. It provides a single-click developer workspace and eliminates local environment configuration.

Wazi Developer for Workspaces uses Kubernetes and containers to provide a consistent, secure, and zero-configuration development environment that interacts with the IBM Z platform.

Wazi Developer for Workspaces provides a modern experience for software developers working with hybrid z/OS applications. Powered by the open-source projects Zowe and Red Hat CodeReady Workspaces, Wazi Developer for Workspaces offers a streamlined onborading process to give mainframe developers the tools they need. Using container technology and stacks, Wazi Developer for Workspaces brings the necessary technology to the task at hand.

By using the IBM Wazi Developer for Red Hat CodeReady Workspaces stack with custom plug-in and devfile registry support, mainframe developers can have an all-in-one mainframe development package that includes the following capabilities:

Wazi Developer for Eclipse

Wazi Developer for Eclipse is a modern lean IDE with program understanding, edit, debug, and build automation capabilities. Wazi Developer for Eclipse opens the door to a platform-neutral continuous integration and deployment pipeline that includes z/OS application components. It is a toolset for z/OS development teams that plan to transform and unify their software delivery practices around modern source code management systems such as Git and IBM Engineering Workflow Management.

Wazi Developer for Eclipse provides an Eclipse-based common workbench and tools for the following:

  • Development of COBOL, PL/I, and Java™ programs
  • Interactive access to z/OS systems
  • Integration with Git repositories, IBM Engineering Workflow Management, and the IBM Z Development and Test Environment

Wazi Sandbox

Wazi Sandbox provides a fully virtualized containerized z/OS environment that enables development and testing of z/OS applications on Red Hat OpenShift running on x86 hardware. This includes:

  • A software stack package that enables developers to develop and test their applications with the newest set of mainframe software packages for CICS, Db2, IMS, and z/OS, and components of z/OS code coupled with scripts for easy configuration.
  • Enhanced image management through APIs and UI that enables developers to deploy custom sandbox images to Red Hat OpenShift. For example, developers can create an application image from a variety of sources, such as IBM Z or IBM Z Development and Test Environment.

Wazi Analyze

Wazi Analyze helps developers to discover relationships between the components of their z/OS applications and to understand the impact of potential changes. It is a containerized analysis tool that provides a graphical visualization of COBOL, PL/I, and Assembler application artifact dependencies in a web user interface.

Licensing metric

Wazi Developer follows the VPC (Virtual Processor Core) licensing metric. Each unit of Wazi Developer comes with a predefined deployment ratio of each capability. It gives clients the flexibility to deploy and redeploy any capability within Wazi Developer.

One Unit of Wazi Developer has the deployment ratio of each capability as follows:

Capability Deployment ratio
Wazi Code 5
Wazi Sandbox 5
Wazi Analyze 2

One VPC of Wazi Developer equates to:

  • 5 Authorized User Single Session (AUSS) of Wazi Sandbox

Statement of good security practices

Top rule

IT system security involves protecting systems and information through intrusion prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside your enterprise. Improper access can result in information being altered, destroyed, or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely effective in preventing improper access. IBM systems and products are designed to be part of a regulatory compliant, comprehensive security approach, which will necessarily involve additional operational procedures, and may require other systems, products, or services to be most effective.
