IBM z/OS Debugger

IBM z/OS Debugger 15.0.1, 15.0.2, and 15.0.3 include the following enhancements:

  • Go language support. To support the ecosystem for containerization of IBM Z, developers can now debug Go applications in Eclipse. Debug support is available for Go 1.16.
  • Host-enabled source-level code coverage for COBOL. When starting a code-coverage session using Developer for z/OS or unattended mode, z/OS application developers now have the flexibility to specify whether to use source or the expanded source listing. Source-level code coverage offers direct mapping between code-coverage entries and the program source code without having to post-process the code-coverage data. This can provide improved integration opportunities with tools like ZUnit and SonarQube as part of an automated pipeline.
  • New code-coverage capabilities include:
    • A code-coverage REST API published through swagger to create custom extensions
    • Capability to export code-coverage results in Cobertura format from the code-coverage results view
    • Headless code-coverage enhancements include:

  • Capability to run streaming UNIX and TSO shell commands
  • Capability to lock, track, and unlock MVS resources across a sysplex
  • UNIX file support for optional encoding header
  • Trusted TCP connection support
  • Capability to work with UNIX archive files (zip, jar, tar, pax, tgz, and war files) to browse, open, export from, import into, and modify the files of an archive
  • Capability to specify an optional record range when querying job spool content and MVS file content
  • Capability to allocate a new data set similar to an existing one
  • Capability to provide a Cross-Origin Resource Sharing (CORS) filter to prevent security risks

Dependency Based Build

Dependency Based Build provides the capabilities to automate the build process for traditional z/OS applications that are developed in programming languages such as COBOL and PL/I. Application development teams can standardize processes across platforms with modern SCM and CI tools such as Git and Jenkins.

Enhancements delivered in Dependency Based Build 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 include the following:

  • The Dependency Based Build web application can now be installed into a Red Hat OCP cluster through an operator:
    • Red Hat OpenShift is an enterprise-ready Kubernetes container platform with full-stack automated operations to manage hybrid cloud and multicloud deployments. It is optimized to improve developer productivity and promote innovation. Dependency Based Build provides the Dependency Based Build Web Application Server as a certified container package as well as a Container Application Software for Enterprises (CASE) bundle for deploying the Dependency Based Build operator to a Red Hat OCP such as Red Hat OpenShift on IBM Cloud®. The Dependency Based Build operator uses a Dependency Based Build Server Custom Resource Definition to define and deploy the Dependency Based Build web application server container in Red Hat OCP.
  • Support for "report only" mode when running Dependency Based Build z/OS command APIs:
    • IBM Dependency Based Build provides APIs to create and generate a build report that contains summary information of the Dependency Based Build z/OS commands executed during the build. Each z/OS command adds a build report record automatically to the build report when it is run. Clients can turn on "report only" mode. This mode disables the execution of the z/OS command while enabling the automatic generation of the build report record to occur as though the command ran successfully. This enables the creation of a build preview without having to run a build.
  • The Dependency Based Build source code scanner can now identify programs with IBM MQ call statements:
    • In addition to identifying build dependencies like COBOL copybooks and PL/I INCLUDE files in program source files, the default dependency scanner can identify whether a program contains EXEC CICS, EXEC SQL, or EXEC DLI statements. This information is useful when determining whether additional compile options or data definition (DD) statements are needed when building programs that contain these statements. The scanner also can identify IBM MQ calls because (like CICS, SQL, and DLI programs) MQ programs also often require additional compile options, DD statements, or both.
  • The Dependency Based Build web application has a new interactive web UI with a more modern appearance that can provide sorting and filtering capabilities and can ease artifact deletion from the UI.

Dependency Based Build is also a component of IBM Developer for z/OS Enterprise Edition and IBM Wazi Developer for Red Hat CodeReady Workspaces.

Statement of good security practices

Top rule

IT system security involves protecting systems and information through intrusion prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside your enterprise. Improper access can result in information being altered, destroyed, or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely effective in preventing improper access. IBM systems and products are designed to be part of a regulatory compliant, comprehensive security approach, which will necessarily involve additional operational procedures, and may require other systems, products, or services to be most effective.

Important: IBM does not warrant that any systems, products, or services are immune from, or will make your enterprise immune from, the malicious or illegal conduct of any party.
