IBM Systems Director Network Control V1.4 can discover, monitor, manage, and troubleshoot network devices in the computing environment. By enabling network management capabilities along with existing server and storage management capabilities, you can effectively manage a computing environment with a single integrated management tool that can improve the cost of computing. This plug-in also provides enhanced network provisioning for workloads against virtual and physical switches. IBM Systems Director Network Control is positioned as a key component of IBM integrated data center management technologies and services, which are part of the dynamic infrastructure and cloud computing strategy.

IBM Systems Director Network Control is a priced plug-in product that leverages and extends the networking functions of the IBM Systems Director product. Systems Director includes a network management component that facilitates the management of Ethernet networks and networking devices. Systems Director Network Management adds support for several new models of Ethernet switches and related networking devices.

IBM Systems Director Network Control V1.4

IBM Systems Director Network Control software is designed to simplify and automate the management of IBM and non-IBM network environments via integrated server, storage, and network management. IBM Systems Director Network Control leverages network management functionality from IBM Systems Director and vendor-based configuration applications.

IBM Systems Director Network Control is designed to provide integrated management of network environments by simplifying network management tasks, which can potentially result in savings and cost reductions. IBM Systems Director Network Control is intended to:

IBM Systems Director Network Control V1.4 can help protect IT investment through its open design and support for industry standards. This enables heterogeneous physical and virtual management with support for multiple platforms and operating systems.

Some of the devices supported by IBM Systems Director Network Control V1.4 using Network Management in IBM Systems Director V6.3 are:

IBM Systems Director Network Control V1.4 introduces new pricing tiers. Since it provides support across a wider range of devices, a new set of pricing tiers is used in Version 1.4. The tiers are Virtual, Physical, and Distributed. All switch tiers from Version 1.3 are now contained within the Physical tier. The definitions of these tiers are available with Ordering Information regarding IBM Systems Director Network Control.

IBM Systems Director Network Control V1.4 is a priced plug-in to IBM Systems Director V6.3. It enhances the no-charge network management component in IBM Systems Director V6.3 that provides basic network management function to users, such as the ability to discover, inventory, and monitor network devices. IBM Systems Director Network Control V1.4 enables deeper management of network devices via enhanced vendor application integration and provides discovery and topology views of network connectivity.

Installation of the Network Control includes a 90-day trial license that allows all of the Network Control capabilities to be enabled for test and evaluation. A permanent license can be purchased and installed at any time. After the evaluation period, all Network Control capabilities will be disabled.

IBM Systems Director Network Control V1.4 provides network management integrated into the server and storage management capabilities of IBM Systems Director, designed to help reduce the cost of managing physical and virtualized environments by using a single integrated management product.

IBM Systems Director Network Control manages network adapters and switches enhanced with storage fabric management for IBM network switches, both Ethernet and FCoCEE. IBM Systems Director Network Control gives users the ability to leverage common tools across a single switch or many switches, which can improve productivity and potentially reduce costs.

IBM Systems Director Network Control will automatically determine the connectivity between switches and servers that support the LLDP-MIB or are part of an IBM Managed Chassis. The topology will also be available between the virtual switches, virtual machines, and the host systems. This topology will automatically detect when a link goes down and update automatically, providing an accurate representation of the network.

IBM Systems Director Network Control also simplifies the network provisioning experience through Automated Logical Network Provisioning. Users may assign a specific Logical Network Profile to a virtual machine (when provisioned via VMControl or vCenter) and Network Control will update the backing Physical and Virtual networks to reflect the profile. This significantly reduces the back end configuration required by a network administrator when setting up a network.

Evaluation software

If IBM Systems Director Network Control V1.4 is downloaded from the web, the user can evaluate the product for up to 90 days under the terms of the IBM International License Agreement for Evaluation of Programs (ILAE). During the evaluation period, an option to purchase a license will be offered.

If a license is purchased, a keyfile will be shipped on a CD-ROM to enable IBM Systems Director Network Control to remain active and continue to work as it did, under the terms of the IBM International Program License Agreement (IPLA). Otherwise, the clients' evaluation of IBM Systems Director Network Control will be disabled 90 days following installation.

The terms and conditions that govern any transaction with IBM are contained in the applicable contract documents such as the IBM International Program License Agreement, IBM International Passport Advantage® Agreement, and the IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance.

Licensing

IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use.

This software license includes Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance).

Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance

The IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance (Z125-6011) agreement applies for Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) and does not require customer signatures.

These programs are licensed under the IBM Program License Agreement (IPLA) and the associated Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance, which provide for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available. These programs have a one-time license charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours), as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect.

Limited warranty

IBM warrants that when the program is used in the specified operating environment, it will conform to its specifications. The warranty applies only to the unmodified portion of the program. IBM does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of the program or that IBM will correct all program defects. You are responsible for the results obtained from the use of the program.

IBM provides you with access to IBM databases containing information on known program defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at no additional charge. For further information, consult the IBM Software Support Handbook found at
