REMOTE DEPLOYMENT MANAGER (RDM) RDM is a server-based application that simplifies the setup, configuration, rollout and ongoing lower-level management of networked IBM NetVista desktop computers. Because RDM gains control of a PC before it boots its local operating system, many of the lower-level tasks that previously required a visit to each computer can now be performed over the network. ASSET PROTECTION Each system includes Norton AntiVirus 2003 (OEM Version) software that is preloaded to help protect your critical business information. ConfigSafe software (Windows 2000 Professional preload) tracks changes to system configuration files and allows you to conveniently restore your configuration when changes threaten system integrity. Since user and application changes to key system components are a frequent source of system failures, ConfigSafe tracks changes in areas such as the system registry configuration files, file versions (including .DLLs, drivers and .EXEs), system hardware, and network connections. ConfigSafe allows users to capture an image or snapshot of a system configuration at any time, so that a user has a record of previous stable configurations and subsequent changes should problems arise. The utility can also be configured to take periodic snapshots, automatically capturing the system setup files and other related information. NORTON ANTIVIRUS 2003 (OEM VERSION): This comprehensive antivirus product for Windows operating systems is preloaded on all M42 systems, and simply and reliably detects and removes viruses from your computer. PC-DOCTOR DIAGNOSTICS: Diagnoses common problems on all major system components. BACKUP COPIES OF YOUR SOFTWARE: The Netvista M42 has a product recovery program on the system hard disk drive. A hidden service partition will provide preload recovery. For up-to-date marketing and technical information on your NetVista M42 systems, visit the IBM Web site at: http://www.pc.ibm.com The latest system BIOS and device drivers are available to bring your system up to the best performance level possible. Windows XP Professional Windows XP Home Edition Windows 2000 Windows NT 4.0 Windows 98 Second Edition OS/2 Warp 4.0 and higher (select models) The NetVista M42 system is also certified for: Novell Client 4.83 for Windows NT/2000 Novell Client 3.3 for Windows 95/98 Operating System video graphics driver support is required for NetVista M42 graphics capabilities. Although these systems have been compatibility tested with the above operating systems, additional video driver support may be required from the operating system vendor. BIOS: FLASH ROM supports Compatibility BIOS (CBIOS) and POST. PLUG-AND-PLAY SUPPORT: NetVista M42 systems support the plug-and-play specifications that make it easier for you to install, upgrade, and make changes to the PC. Plug-and-play systems that use plug-and-play adapter cards are self- configuring. The NetVista M42 systems have BIOS support and a plug-and-play utility. ADVANCED POWER MANAGEMENT: New IBM NetVista M42 Systems support the APM Specification, Version 1.2 APM provides a cooperative environment in which applications, operating systems, and device drivers work together to reduce power consumption. The New IBM NetVista M42 Systems have an APM feature "standby". This power-management feature places the system in standby mode after a user-defined time interval elapses with no activity. The system resumes operation when the keyboard or mouse is used. Systems with preinstalled software come with this power-management feature already set up. The setup utility program has a default setting of 30 minutes for automatically initiating power management of the display, processor, and HDD. The scheduler feature is used to start events when the system is off. The scheduler can start events such as power-off, power-on, and program initiation. Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) evolved from the power management architecture used in today's PC. ACPI provides an industry standard method to control system level resources via the operating system. BIOS SETUP UTILITY The BIOS setup utility program also has power management options. This program implements power-saving functions when Power Manager is not installed. DESKTOP MANAGEMENT INTERFACE (DMI): The New IBM NetVista M42 Systems systems are DMI V2.3.1 compliant. CONFIGURATION INSTALLATION AND DISTRIBUTION (CID): CID is supported on these NetVista M42 systems. COMPATIBILITY: LIMITATIONS: o If all I/O card slots are populated, average wattage of the I/O cards should be limited to 7.5 watts. Populating all I/O card slots with options that have an average load of greater than 7.5 watts will cause recommended thermal limits in the I/O card area to be exceeded. o The NetVista M42 is classified as a Class B digital device (models that have integrated 10/100 ethernet). However, some models include integrated 10/100/1000 ethernet. When the integrated 10/100/1000 ethernet is in use, these systems are considered as Class A digital devices. The inclusion of other Class A options or Class A NIC cables will also change the overall rating of the computer to Class A. o For models without a separate video card, memory supports both system and video. System memory used by video may be up to 32MB if the system has 128MB installed, and up to 64MB if the system has 256MB or more system memory installed, depending on video mode.
