Brief Description of Announcement, Charges, and Availability

       IBM Classroom Network Assistant is a product that enables
multiple users on an IBM Education Network to access the IBM
Assistant Series Version 2.00 products:  Writing Assistant, Filing
Assistant, Reporting Assistant, Graphing Assistant, and Planning
Assistant.  The product is intended to provide network use of the IBM
Assistant Series Version 2.00 products through IBM Classroom LAN
Administration System Version 1.10.  It will provide teachers,
students and administrators with an inexpensive solution for creating
a network tools package in the classroom or school.
       One-Time Charge:  $600
       Planned Availability Date:  April 29, 1988

DESCRIPTION
       IBM Classroom Network Assistant is an easy-to-use product that
enables the IBM Assistant Series Version 2.00 products to be accessed
by up to 50 concurrent users on an IBM Education Network.
       IBM Classroom Network Assistant aids in the installation of
the IBM Assistant Series Version 2.00 products onto the network.
Using the normal IBM Classroom LAN Administration System Version 1.10
menus, the IBM Assistant Series products are accessed like other
programs on the network without requiring program diskettes at the
workstations.
       The IBM Classroom Network Assistant can be used to install or
re-install one IBM Assistant Series Version 2.00 product at a time on
a single server.  The user must obtain a separate copy of the IBM
Classroom Network Assistant for each IBM Assistant Series Version
2.00 product to be installed on the network together with the IBM
Assistant Series Version 2.00 product.
       IBM Classroom Network Assistant consists of one 3.5-inch
diskette, one 5.25-inch diskette and documentation explaining its
operation and product-specific networking guidelines.

       The Integrated Business Applications Handbook will be
available from the IBM Educational Systems Headquarters after

TECHNICAL INFORMATION
SPECIFIED OPERATING ENVIRONMENT
MACHINE REQUIREMENTS:  Hardware requirements are those required to
operate IBM Classroom LAN Administration System Version 1.10,
consisting of as a minimum, a server and a workstation.  The server
requirements are those specified by Advanced NetWare(1) 86, Version
2.0a or later, Advanced NetWare 286 Version 2.0a or later, or
Advanced NetWare 286/2 for IBM Personal System/2 (TM).  A minimum
(dedicated) server configuration consisting of one of the following
IBM personal computers/systems:
o   IBM Personal Computer AT (R)
o   IBM Personal Computer XT (TM) Model 286
o   Personal System/2 Model 30
o   Personal System/2 Model 50
o   Personal System/2 Model 60
o   IBM fixed disk with at least 20MB of storage
o   At least 512KB of memory (2 to 4MB recommended)
o   A double-sided 5.25-inch or 3.5-inch diskette drive
o   IBM network-supported printer
o   An IBM monochrome or color display with the appropriate adapter.
       And one of the following network adapters:
o   IBM Cluster Adapter
o   IBM PC Network Adapter
o   IBM PC Network Adapter II
o   IBM PC Network Adapter II/A
o   IBM PC Network Baseband Adapter
o   IBM PC Network Baseband Adapter/A
o   IBM Token-Ring Network PC Adapter
o   IBM Token-Ring Network PC Adapter/II
o   IBM Token-Ring Network Adapter/A.
       A workstation consists of one of the following:
o   IBM Personal Computer AT
o   IBM Personal Computer XT
o   IBM Portable Personal Computer

o   Personal System/2 Model 30
o   Personal System/2 Model 50

o   At least 384KB of memory (512KB is recommended).
       And one of the following network adapters:

PROGRAMMING REQUIREMENTS:
o   Advanced NetWare 86 Version 2.0a or later, Advanced NetWare 286
    Version 2.0a or later, or Advanced NetWare 286/2 for Personal
    System/2.
o   IBM Classroom LAN Administration System Version 1.10
o   IBM Personal Computer Disk Operating System (DOS) Version 3.10 or
    later required for the server
o   IBM Local Area Network Support Program required for all work
    stations and servers that are using IBM Token-Ring Network
    Adapter/A
o   IBM Personal Computer Disk Operating System (DOS) Version 2.10 or
    later required for each workstation and non-dedicated server if
    used as a workstation (Personal System/2 Models 50 and 60 will
    require DOS 3.3)
LIMITATIONS:  When using Filing Assistant, students may create and
query their own personal data bases.  Shared data bases for use by
all students may only be created and updated by a teacher.
PLANNING INFORMATION
PACKAGING:  IBM Classroom Network Assistant is distributed in one
package with the following materials:
o   IBM Program License Agreement
o   One 3.5-inch double-sided (720KB) diskette
o   One 5.25-inch double-sided diskette
o   One User's Guide.
SECURITY, AUDITABILITY, AND CONTROL
       The IBM Classroom Network Assistant uses the security and
auditability features of IBM Classroom LAN Administration System
Version 1.10 to control the number of concurrent users of any of the
Assistant Series Version 2.00 products: Writing Assistant, Filing
Assistant, Reporting Assistant, Graphing Assistant, and Planning
Assistant.
       Security and auditability features of IBM Classroom LAN
Administration System Version 1.10 prevent unauthorized access and
modification of the network and installed applications and control
access by a maximum of 50 workstations simultaneously.
       The security functions of IBM Classroom Network Assistant
interface with the above feature in IBM Classroom LAN Administration
System Version 1.10.
       User management is responsible for evaluation, selection and
implementation of security features, administrative procedures and
appropriate controls in application systems and communication
facilities.
ORDERING INFORMATION
       Orders for new licenses will be accepted now.  Unless a later
date is specified, orders entered prior to April 29, 1988, will be
scheduled for shipment May 6, 1988.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
LICENSING:  Programs in this announcement are licensed under the
terms and conditions of the IBM Program License Agreement.  A copy of
the agreement is included in the program package.
LOCAL AREA NETWORK PACKAGE AMENDMENT APPLIES:  No.
LIMITED WARRANTY:  Program:  No.  Media:  Three months.
EDUCATIONAL ALLOWANCE:  A 20% educational allowance is available to
qualifying institutions in accordance with the Educational Allowance
Amendment.  The educational allowance may not be added to any other
discount or allowance.
VOLUME DISCOUNT:  Volume discounting is available under the terms and
conditions of the Volume Procurement Amendment (VPA) and Exhibit for
Personal Computer/System programs for Qualified Educational
Institutions/Hospitals.  The programs in this announcement are
included in the Eligible Program List for Personal Computer/System
Programs -- Qualified Educational Institutions/Hospitals.  They may
be added to the applicable category in the space provided on the
Eligible Program List.  Program Packages are included in Category A
under 5871-BBB.
TESTING PERIOD:  Program Packages:  Two months for up to three copies
of each eligible program ordered under a VPA Addendum.
