Cloud Pak for Integration 2021.3.1 includes the following enhancements and new capabilities:

  • Event Endpoint Management that is called out as a separate high- level capability

Deprecation

Beginning with Cloud Pak for Integration 2021.1.1, IBM Event Streams is deprecated. Support and fixes are still available for organizations that have Event Streams installed but no new functions are being developed.

Component capabilities can be deployed within containers in the feature-rich Cloud Pak for Integration private cloud environment, and also as traditional, stand-alone on-premises programs. Also, in addition to IBM MQ Advanced, is the ability to deploy IBM MQ as a stand-alone program with its own consumption ratio.

Cloud Pak for Integration Operators

Cloud Pak for Integration 2020.2.1 brings significant changes, adding Operators to help organizations improve software management in a Kubernetes environment. Operators are a method of packaging, deploying, and managing a Kubernetes application. Cloud Pak for Integration Operators provide:

  • Repeatability of installation and upgrade
  • Consistent configuration of Cloud Pak components
  • Over-the-air updates for OpenShift components
  • Deployment of the Cloud Pak into Kubernetes according to best practices from product development
  • Ongoing operations (Day 2) capabilities such as database backup that can be implemented according to best practices

Because Operators software eases the operational complexity of running other software, organizations can more seamlessly use the integration capabilities of Cloud Pak for Integration within the Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform. Operators are installed from the Operators catalog by using Red Hat Operator Lifecycle Manager. Operators are the native way to deploy and manage software in OpenShift.

In addition to streamlining software installation, Operators enable organizations to deploy application-level characteristics such as integrations to runtimes by using the same method as that used to declare the number of instances. This enables a full continuous integration, continuous delivery, and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipeline, building everything needed to deploy an application with its dependencies. Operators are designed to provide organizations with control of deployment across OpenShift clusters or within namespaces.

The Cloud Pak for Integration Operators enable more flexible and agile deployments of the integration capabilities at the requested version or release level, which are deployed by Red Hat OpenShift as needed, with constant health checks of each system component.

The Cloud Pak for Integration makes use of the Red Hat Operator Lifecycle Manager helping users install, update, and manage the lifecycle of all Operators and their associated services running across their clusters and providing a consistent method for organizations to deploy only those components of Cloud Pak for Integration that are required. For example, if a specific installation requires only the Event Streams messaging capability, then the Operator pulls in only the Event Streams component.

Notes:

  • Support for Operators as a method for deploying Cloud Pak for Integration replaces the use of Helm. The use of Operators with Cloud Pak for Integration can improve responsiveness and help achieve consistent outcomes.
  • The Event Streams Operator takes advantage of the Open Source Strimzi Operator that is published under the Cloud Native Computing Foundation, and extends it to support the Cloud Pak for Integration.

IBM Cloud Transformation Advisor

IBM Cloud Transformation Advisor is available to help organizations modernize their integration workloads. Cloud Transformation Advisor in Cloud Pak for Integration 2020.2.1 provides the ability to analyze existing integration servers and queue managers to provide an assessment of the changes required in order to containerize workloads on Red Hat OpenShift with optional and suggested remediations. This enhances the ability to modernize the organization's Java workloads already available in IBM Cloud Pak for Applications.

IBM App Connect Enterprise Mapping Assist and additional connectors

IBM App Connect Enterprise includes AI-powered Mapping Assist in App Connect Designer to help organizations integrate applications and data twice as fast compared to manual mapping.

Organizations need to be able to rapidly respond to changing business requirements in order to remain competitive in their markets. With an increase in the diversity and number of applications coupled with a broad range of skills across a business, from line-of-business users to integration experts, it is a challenge to build integrations quickly, consistently, and accurately.

Mapping Assist uses a pretrained AI algorithm to provide organizations with intelligent, customized data map suggestions at the point of building integrations. The algorithm is trained and curated to provide suggestions on flat structures as well as complex, nested mapping fields. This dramatically accelerates the speed of development, shortens time to value, and improves overall user experience. Recognizing the importance of protecting an organizations data, the Mapping Assist AI model and runtime data is private for your organizations. IBM will not view or request that you share it with IBM or anyone else.

Nineteen additional prebuilt connectors are also added to App Connect Designer in Cloud Pak for Integration 2020.2.1, including Microsoft Dynamics CRM, Google Analytics, Yapily, Coupa, Microsoft Active Directory, Gmail, Wufoo, Kronos, Amazon SNS, Google Drive, Microsoft Office 365, Sap Hybris, IBM COSS3, Callable Flow Connector, Microsoft Dynamics F&O, Open LDAP, IBM Filenet, Siemens Team Center, and Amazon SQS. Enhancements have also been made to the Maximo connector to support additional operations.

IBM Cloud Pak for Integration 2020.1.1

IBM Cloud Pak for Integration helps organizations integrate applications and systems more quickly and simply, with features designed to optimize security. Cloud Pak for Integration 2020.1.1 includes the following enhancements:

  • New IBM App Connect Designer browser based app authoring capabilities and added support for Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform 4.3, and Red Hat OpenShift Kubernetes Services in the cloud. This release also adds support for Red Hat OpenShift Container Storage.
  • Updates to the centralized IBM Cloud Pak for Integration Asset Repository add-on, which enables enhanced user collaboration.
  • IBM App Connect Enterprise is now integrated with the Cloud Pak for Integration Asset Repository, and capabilities have expanded to include viewing and managing OpenAPI documents and JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) schemas.
  • Cloud Pak for Integration 2020.1.1 users now have greater ability to share integration assets across the platform and to access assets directly within the user interface.
  • New Committed Term License parts for IBM Cloud Pak for Integration - Operations Dashboard Add-On 2020.1.1.

IBM Cloud Pak for Integration 2019.4.1

This release introduces support for Red Hat Open Container Platform 4.2. Use IBM Cloud Pak for Integration version 2019.3.2.2 for environments running OpenShift 3.11.

Cloud Pak for Integration release 2019.4.1 enhances the cross- platform tracing capabilities that were released in October 2019, that enable support for the latest release of Red Hat OpenShift 4.2. It also delivers a more consistent user experience across the Cloud Pak component capabilities.

In addition, flows that were authored in IBM App Connect Designer are now supported to run in Cloud Pak for Integration. This enables users to design and test integration flows quickly by using the award winning "no code", configuration-based, model-driven tooling with choices of hundreds of prebuilt connectors for SaaS products, APIs, message queues, and mainframes in IBM Cloud. Then, export the integration flow and deploy to run locally inside the Cloud Pak for Integration within a Red Hat OpenShift environment.

The stand-alone products available for this enhanced deployment flexibility include currently supported releases of:

IBM Cloud Pak for Integration 2019.3.2.2

The version of App Connect Enterprise has changed to 11.0.0.6.

This release introduces the Operations Dashboard. The Operations Dashboard provides data aggregation services and cross- capability transaction tracing and reporting.

IBM Cloud Pak for Integration - Operations Dashboard Add-on includes cross-component monitoring and tracing capabilities for your cloud integration platform infrastructure capabilities. The Operations Dashboard Add-on can quickly analyze performance and latency problems across your integration components to ensure applications meet service level agreements

IBM Cloud Pak for Integration - Operations Dashboard Add-on includes the following capabilities:

  • Allows tracing execution across:
    • IBM MQ Advanced
    • IBM App Connect Enterprise
    • IBM API Connect
    • IBM DataPower Gateway

    • Cloud Pak for Integration - Operations Dashboard operates in a container on OpenShift Container Platform which offers enterprises full control over their Kubernetes environments

Cloud Pak for Integration - Operations Dashboard Add-on is based on Jaeger open source project and the OpenTracing standard to monitor and troubleshoot microservices-based distributed systems. Operations Dashboard can distinguish call paths and latencies. DevOps personnel, developers, and performance engineers now have one tool to visualize throughput and latency across integration components that run on Cloud Pak for Integration. Cloud Pak for Integration - Operations Dashboard Add-on is designed to help organizations that need to meet and ensure maximum service availability and react quickly to any variations in their systems.

IBM Cloud Pak for Integration 2019.3.2

  • IBM Cloud Pak for Integration now requires Red Hat OpenShift. Installation in any other environment is not supported with this release. See the Quick Start guide on Passport Advantage for more information about Red Hat environments.
  • The Asset Repository now supports remote Git repositories.
  • Product and capability images are now available from the IBM Entitled Registry. This allows installation from a central repository rather than requiring downloads from Passport Advantage or IBM Fix Central.
  • The versions of the included capabilities have been refreshed. These are the versions now included.

IBM Cloud Pak for Integration 2021.3.1

Included in Cloud Pak for Integration are the following foundational IBM integration offerings that deliver integration capabilities as entitled and included features under the single integrated interface:

Entitlement to Cloud Pak for Integration enables organizations to choose to use one or more of the existing separate integration offerings, as well as the integrated capabilities within the offerings. Event Endpoint Management that is called out as a separate high level capability

With Cloud Pak for Integration 2021.3.1, Event Endpoint Management can now be selected as a specific deployable component rather than selecting the API Connect component to access this function. API developers who want to only use AsyncAPI to access data held in Kafka topics can now more easily select this feature for deployment. The Event Endpoint Management feature is entitled using the API Connect ratio for Cloud Pak for Integration virtual processor cores (VPCs) as described in the License Information document.

An Event Gateway service that can be deployed separately alongside the Kafka provider

As an enhancement to the Event Endpoint Management feature in Cloud Pak for Integration 2021.3.1, an Event Gateway service can be deployed separately from the rest of the Event Endpoint Management components. Acting as a proxy in front of your Kafka cluster to help achieve layered security, the Event Gateway service can be deployed closer to the Kafka broker.

Automatic generation of test data for API testing

Cloud Pak for Integration has provided a number of enhancements that automatically generate tests to provide coverage for API calls. This has included analysis of the OpenAPI protocols and also reviewing the API calls in production. Cloud Pak for Integration can now generate some data to be used in the API tests based on the API schemas being used.

MQ native high availability support for production use

Cloud Pak for Integration 2021.1.1 introduced a preview of a new option for high availability support specifically for container deployments in Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, removing the cost and complexity of external networked storage requirements. In Cloud Pak for Integration 2021.3.1, when using the latest MQ Operator, this function is now fully supported for use either in production or nonproduction environments. Deployments include three instances of MQ, with one instance requiring MQ Advanced entitlement using the ratio table for Cloud Pak for Integration VPCs, and the other two instances of MQ used for high availability do not require Cloud Pak for Integration VPC licensing. However, those MQ instances would need to have Red Hat OpenShift entitlements.

Additional MQ features available, including MQ Streaming Queues

MQ Streaming Queues, a new feature included in a recent MQ update, provides valuable new ways to make use of MQ messages. MQ Streaming Queues lets messages be copied to an additional queue. This enables the message data to be reused, while still letting the original message be sent and consumed as before. No application changes are required, but now that message can be used in new ways. Previously, the reuse of messages would have required additional work to change the application design.

Additional App Connect features available, including Business Transaction Monitoring

Available in the latest release of App Connect, Business Transaction Monitoring can be deployed as a component of Cloud Pak for Integration 2021.3.1. Capabilities include the following:

  • Track the status of App Connect integration flows through the new Business Transaction Monitoring capability available through the App Connect Web Browser
  • Discover and graphically display whether transactions have, completed, failed, are in progress, or in an inconsistent state
  • Filter on business transactions; by name, time periods and status.
  • View the events and event data that form a business transaction
  • Define business transactions and definitions

Additional connectors available in Cloud Pak for Integration

Event Streams deprecation rescinded

As part of Cloud Pak for Integration 2021.2.1, organizations looking to specifically deploy this feature can now select it as a specific deployable component rather than selecting the API Connect component to deploy it. In addition, developers looking to use this feature can now discover the Kafka topic they want from the developer portal and can generate their own credentials to start consuming from that topic. Developers can quickly and easily make use of this new capability.

Uses natural language to create integration flows based on known templates

Cloud Pak for Integration 2021.2.1 enables a user to describe an integration flow using natural language, by typing into the entry field. As the user types the integration wanted, an included AI powered engine creates suggested integration flows based on existing templates provided in Cloud Pak for Integration. Templates can also be pulled from those created by the organization.

Includes additional enhancements for AI-powered API test generation

Through the analysis of production OpenTracing data, existing test coverage of API implementations are automatically reviewed and behavior not tested is identified. These tests can be customized by the user.

Improved application development through additional AI capabilities in Cloud Pak for Integration Designer:

  • Transformation generator that intelligently builds suggested mapping expressions using sample data from the source and target
  • Incremental learning --that makes use of previous integration flow definitions from the same user by using operational feedback to retrain the AI model for Mapping Assist

Reduces the deployment footprint needed for selected integration capabilities

Cloud Pak for Integration is deployed through Kubernetes Operators where only the components required are used. Different configurations into varying amounts of resources are required for different use cases. The product documentation lists the minimum required resources needed for deployments of each component. For certain smaller deployment configurations, the minimum requirements can benefit from reduced resource allocations. As part of Cloud Pak for Integration 2021.2.1, various enhancements help reduce the minimum resource settings needed for each component deployment. However, reduced resource allocations may impact the performance or throughput possible with those deployments.

For those wanting additional assistance, App Connect Enterprise Toolkit also provides built-in architectural patterns and a newly designed tutorial interface with over 100 tutorials, making it easier to get started. New features to enable test driven development make it easy to run unit tests for App Connect Enterprise integration flows with built-in Spies, Mocks and Stubs. This unit-testing framework also provides product-specific matchers, support for JUnit assertions, and third-party matcher libraries. The testing framework enables developers to iteratively test as they develop and automate test authoring to help mitigate the risk of issues that could result when upgrading and updating software. A new wizard provides a simple single interface for interactive test generation, and a new message assembly editor for changing test data. Command-line tools for bulk message recording and automated test generation assist with quality assurance of integrations and faster time to market when updating integration deployments or upgrading to an App Connect Enterprise version. The award-winning web browser- based App Connect Designer component helps bring together the teams that own and manage data with those that have the context to apply it by providing a no-code integration design tool, whether those individuals are in IT or are citizen integrators in a specific line of business. The option within App Connect Enterprise Designer to use intuitive interfaces to enhance the user development experience provides an optimal view and enhanced user experience of the organization's integration design.

    • App Connect Enterprise 12 supports building integration flows through a no-code approach and exposes those flows as RESTful APIs to users without the users being API development experts. Deploys RPA capabilities

In addition to the existing integration capabilities, Cloud Pak for Integration 2021.1.1 now includes a chargeable integration option that enables the deployment of RPA. Deploying RPA features in Cloud Pak for Integration enables screen scraping and metadata inference to extract data from legacy applications and to make use of this in other Cloud Pak for Integration components through the use of an included connector.

Adds ability to use Process Mining

Since many integrations deployed in Cloud Pak for Integration comprise multiple steps, there may be opportunities for improvement, but it can be difficult to understand where inefficiencies exist. Process Mining is an additional chargeable component available in Cloud Pak for Integration 2021.1. Process Mining can identify areas where inefficiencies exist and can suggest improvements.

Includes API test generation leveraging AI

With many new integration solutions using APIs to address business needs, it is critical that these APIs are thoroughly tested to reduce the chance for API users to encounter errors. New capabilities, available as part of Cloud Pak for Integration 2021.1.1, use automation, AI, and machine learning to generate potentially hundreds of new tests. The API test generation capability can help provide higher quality solutions, with lower impact on development resources and time.

Enhancements and additions to IBM DataPower Gateway Virtual Edition entitlements

Organizations using Cloud Pak for Integration entitlements to deploy DataPower Gateway Virtual Edition benefit from additional enhancements in Cloud Pak for Integration 2021.1.1. The prior release added IBM DataPower Integration Module to be deployed in the DataPower Gateway Virtual Edition image when running in Cloud Pak for Integration. Cloud Pak for Integration 2021.1.1 entitles organizations to deploy DataPower Integration Module when running DataPower Gateway Virtual Gateway Edition standalone. This release also entitles organizations running DataPower Gateway Virtual Edition standalone (outside of Cloud Pak for Integration), to deploy the Application Optimization module and the B2B module if required.

Manages Kafka endpoints in API manager and exposes them in API portal

With multiple styles of integration combining to better solve business problems, it is increasingly valuable to enable your developers and key business partners to easily find and leverage your organization's assets regardless of how they are shared. Organizations that are building event-driven architectures can now leverage the key benefits of multiform API management as they publish critical business data in Kafka. Cloud Pak for Integration 2021.1.1 enhancements enable easy publishing, discovery, and consumption of Kafka endpoints in the API portal, alongside REST, SOAP, and GraphQL, for a rich set of multiform API management features.

Supports additional storage options available in the included Storage Suite for IBM Cloud Paks

Cloud Pak for Integration now includes limited entitlement to Storage Suite for IBM Cloud Paks. This entitlement provides support for additional storage options. IBM Spectrum Virtualize and IBM Spectrum Scale is now supported by some of the Cloud Pak for Integration capabilities. Red Hat OpenShift Container Storage continues to be supported across the different integration capabilities. Documentation in IBM Knowledge Center provides more details of which storage option is supported for which integration capability.

Includes early access for evaluation use only to a new high- availability option for MQ Advanced deployments in Cloud Pak for Integration

Organizations deploying MQ Advanced using Cloud Pak for Integration entitlement in the Cloud Pak for Integration container environment can choose a new high-availability option, for evaluation only, in this release. This new approach for native high availability uses MQ Advanced itself to replicate messages from one active Queue Manager to two other replica Queue Managers. In Cloud Pak for Integration 2021.1.1, this function is only for use under an evaluation license and is not supported for any other use.

Can isolate deployment in a namespace

Kubernetes namespaces are a way to partition a cluster and to divide that cluster between multiple users. In Cloud Pak for Integration 2021.1.1, it is now possible to deploy Cloud Pak for Integration into a specific namespace in a cluster and to isolate Cloud Pak for Integration to that namespace without requiring elevated security permissions.

Additional Smart Connectors

Cloud Pak for Integration 2021.1.1 includes multiple new action connectors and event connectors. The action connnectors, which allow interaction with end systems to perform specific operations, include connectors for Gitlab, Google Cloud Object Storage, and IBM Sterling Inventory Control Tower Master Data. The event connectors which can help a user to build event-driven flows can help to identify an event that can occur in a source application. Examples of the new event connectors include Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales, Microsoft Teams, Jira, Service Now, Insightly, Microsoft Sharepoint, Google Spreadsheet, Wufoo, and Google Pub Sub.

Delivers Aspera Enterprise add-on

A more comprehensive set of high-speed transfer features is available with Aspera Enterprise as a separately orderable add-on to Cloud Pak for Integration. Aspera Enterprise add-on includes Aspera High Speed Transfer Server 10 Gbps and additional capabilities to enhance the file and package transfer experience.

Adds Cloud Pak for Integration - API Calls add-on, for additional deployment and pricing flexibility

Organizations can deploy API management solutions with a separately orderable add-on to Cloud Pak for Integration, based on API call volumes. This provides an alternative to the original Virtual Processor Core (VPC) metric when deploying API Connect. This approach can be a more cost-effective for certain scenarios including highly scaled hybrid and multicloud deployments. A minimum deployment quantity of 50 RVUs is required.

Deprecation of Event Streams

Cloud Pak for Integration 2021.1.1 is deprecating Event Streams and it will not be updated in the future. Security fixes and support will continue to be provided for a period of two years.

Cloud Pak for Integration 2020.4.1, running only on Red Hat OpenShift 4.6, benefits from 18 months of support from initial offering availability. Organizations can remain on the same release in order to maintain stable production environments for critical applications. Extended Update Support is only available when deploying Cloud Pak for Integration 2020.4.1 on Red Hat OpenShift 4.6. Cloud Pak for Integration 2020.4.1 does not support Red Hat OpenShift 4.5.

Use of DataPower Integration Module

DataPower Integration Module adds support for any-to-any connectivity, IMS integration, and SQL Database Connectivity. Within the Cloud Pak for Integration 2020.4.1 license entitlement, the Integration Module is available for users of DataPower Gateway Virtual Edition.

Access to demo environment scripts

Using a single click, Cloud Pak for Integration 2020.4.1 provides a script to make it easy to launch a demo environment. This capability enables usable demo examples that help highlight capabilities of this release. Cloud Pak for Integration 2020.4.1 includes examples showing how to build demos.

Enhancements to Operators for some components

All Cloud Pak for Integration components are configured and deployed using Operators. In Cloud Pak for Integration 2020.3.1, updates were made to many of the Operators to provide enhanced tooling and additional assistance when using Operators. In Cloud Pak for Integration 2020.4.1, the Operators for MQ and API Connect also benefit from this enhancement to help make it easier for users of all skill levels to deploy and manage components in Cloud Pak for Integration.

Event-driven flows in App Connect Designer

Integration use cases increasingly need to deliver more business agility, and in many cases that comes from responding to events. Enhancement in Cloud Pak for Integration 2020.4 enable the authoring of event-driven flows in App Connect Designer and the ability to deploy these enhancements using the App Connect Dashboard. This capability helps enable businesses to more quickly and simply respond to events through responses generated from integrated applications and assets.

New connectors available

The capabilities of Cloud Pak for Integration 2020.4.1 to enable rapid connectivity to external systems is enhanced with the addition of new connectors, including those for Amazon DynamoDB, Jenkins, IBM Sterling Inventory Visibility and Dropbox. In addition, there is a new Kafka events connector provided that enables an integration flow to be triggered when a message is received about a specified Kafka topic.

Limited Entitlement to IBM Storage Suite for Cloud Paks

Integration components that deploy in Red Hat OpenShift need to make use of appropriate storage that works with the Kubernetes environment. As part of Cloud Pak for Integration 2020.4.1, there is limited entitlement to IBM Storage Suite for Cloud Paks. This provides access to a number of different storage offerings at no additional cost. Cloud Pak for Integration 2020.4.1, includes Red Hat OpenShift Container Storage, Red Hat Ceph Storage, as well as other storage options including IBM Spectrum Virtualize, IBM Spectrum Discover, and IBM Spectrum Scale. Not all storage solutions are supported by Cloud Pak for Integration. The entitlement is limited to a single period of up to 3 years, and storage is limited to a capacity of 12TB for Red Hat OpenShift Container Storage and an additional capacity of 12TB across the rest of the storage offerings.

  • IBM Aspera High-Speed Transfer Server (5737-F70) combines the capabilities of IBM Aspera Enterprise Server and IBM Aspera Connect Server (Aspera Connect for Web Access) to provide data streaming functions (for example, IBM Aspera FASPStream for Data) and optimized bandwidth tiers. With patented Fast and Secure Protocol (FASP) transport at its core, the Aspera High-Speed Transfer Server delivers optimized transfer throughput that is independent of distance and network conditions. This typically can yield a significant speed improvement over file transfer protocol (FTP) or secure copy protocol (SCP) and HTTP, with end-to-end security and exceptional bandwidth control.

Cloud Pak for Integration - Operations Dashboard Add-on

Cloud Pak for Integration - Operations Dashboard Add-on provides cross-component monitoring and tracing capabilities that enable IT personnel to quickly analyze performance bottlenecks and latency problems across integration components to help ensure high levels of service. Cloud Pak for Integration - Operations Dashboard Add-on includes the following capabilities:

  • Delivers cross-component tracing and insights on call paths and latencies.
  • Custom built, designed as a distributed tracing implementation for the Kubernetes platform, Operations Dashboard is based on the OpenTracing standard and Jaeger open source project.
  • Helps application delivery and DevOps teams to help ensure that applications are highly available. The dashboard can provide historical and near real-time views of throughput and latency. This data can help organizations to:
    • More quickly identify and understand disruptions or bottlenecks of flow across their entire cloud integration infrastructure.
    • React quickly and effectively.
  • Helps DevOps teams coordinate on a single platform to ensure all components are performing at desired levels, and more quickly respond to problems.
  • Provides DevOps and development teams the ability to visualize issues in near real time so that they can work to reduce wait times without compromising quality.
  • Delivers cross-component tracing for the following Cloud Pak for Integration components:
    • MQ Advanced
    • App Connect Enterprise
    • API Connect
    • DataPower Gateway
