Abstract

Top rule

IBM OMEGAMON for Networks on z/OS 5.5.0

OMEGAMON for Networks on z/OS is a performance monitor providing subject matter experts, such as systems programmers, the capability to manage z/OS network resources such as z/OS Communication Server. It integrates with other members of the OMEGAMON portfolio to provide a powerful cross-subsystem problem determination toolset, helping subject matter experts manage and monitor their systems with ease. The new release provides enhancements to simplify deployment and serviceability, increase compatibility, and aid exploitation of functions to monitor the latest z14 hardware and z/OS 2.3 features, including monitoring of shared memory communications through new workspaces and migration of key functions to the Enhanced 3270UI.

IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON for z/OS Management Suite 5.4.1

OMEGAMON for z/OS Management Suite (OMEGAMON Management Suite) is focused on providing real-time and historical monitoring and availability management of the z/OS infrastructure.

The new release contains significant updates to the following components that provide enhanced monitoring for z/OS and networks. They enable clients to move to the latest levels of IBM Z hardware and software with confidence they can exploit leading-edge technology. A key focus of this update has been on simplifying the deployment and serviceability of the portfolio, reducing the time systems programmers spend managing their service management infrastructure so they can dedicate time to focus on optimizing their IBM Z operations. The Enhanced 3270UI has been updated to give comprehensive monitoring coverage across z/OS and key subsystems. As a result, the older Common User Interface (CUA)/OMEGAMON II and OMEGAVIEW interfaces have been withdrawn, simplifying the deployment process for an OMEGAMON runtime environment.

Product positioning

Top rule

The overriding value of OMEGAMON products is the broad z/OS platform performance and availability management capability covering the operating system, subsystems, and storage areas.

For example, the Tivoli OMEGAMON family of products utilizes the Tivoli Enterprise Portal (TEP) to provide the same graphical interface, which allows various end users, from different domains (storage, operating systems, and networks), to utilize the same user interface and leverage information to perform management of their z/OS environment.

The value of OMEGAMON for z/OS Management Suite is to provide users a comprehensive set of performance monitoring tools for z/OS infrastructure within a single offering. The functional scope comprises z/OS infrastructure, storage and network operations plus visibility into Java on z/OS resources. The integration of monitoring data from these sources through a common user interface offers clients the ability to manage their z/OS infrastructure whilst controlling cost and risk.

Description

IBM OMEGAMON for Networks 5.5.0 (5698-T03)

OMEGAMON for Networks on z/OS, formerly Tivoli OMEGAMON XE for Mainframe Networks, is a performance monitor providing subject matter experts, such as systems programmers, the capability to manage z/OS network resources such as z/OS Communication Server. It integrates with other members of the OMEGAMON portfolio to provide a powerful cross-subsystem problem determination toolset, helping subject matter experts manage and monitor their systems with ease.

New features and enhancements

  • Migration of key functions from OMEGAMON II/CUA to the Enhanced 3270UI to provide comprehensive monitoring and management of z/OS functions in a single user interface integrated with the complete OMEGAMON family of offerings
  • Compatibility and exploitation of functions to monitor the latest z14 hardware and z/OS 2.3 features, including monitoring of shared memory communications (RoCE and SMC-D/ISM)
  • Simplified deployment process, eliminating a number of required address spaces to be deployed and reducing configuration parameters coupled with automatic discovery of system properties during the PARMGEN configuration process
  • Improvements to serviceability, reducing the time required to manage your OMEGAMON for z/OS deployments through reduction of RKLVLOG log messages, improvements of dynamic tracing, and reworked situations to alert users to communication problems between agents and servers

Migration of key functions to the Enhanced 3270UI means that the OMEGAMON II/Common User Interface (CUA) is withdrawn in version 5.5 because functions that could be accomplished with CUA in previous releases can now be accomplished with the Enhanced 3270UI.

Note: All new OMEGAMON 5.5.0 and 7.5.0 products utilize the z/OS Discovery Library Adapter (z/OS DLA) to discover online resources within the monitored environment configuration steps when deploying or updating a runtime environment within PARMGEN. This reduces the time taken to configure agent parameters, eliminates errors caused by mistyped parameters, and reduces dependency on subject matter experts or teams during the deployment process.

IBM OMEGAMON for z/OS Management Suite 5.5.0 (5698-TOM)

OMEGAMON for z/OS Management Suite (OMEGAMON Management Suite), formerly Tivoli OMEGAMON for z/OS Management Suite, is a suite of five integrated offerings focused on providing real-time and historical monitoring and availability management of the z/OS infrastructure.

OMEGAMON for z/OS Management Suite contains:

  • IBM OMEGAMON for z/OS, 5.5.0
  • IBM OMEGAMON for Networks on z/OS, 5.5.0
