IBM Z® is an enterprise platform for mission-critical applications with a foundation of performance, security, and resiliency. Integration of IBM Z into the IBM® public cloud would unlock further value as part of a client's hybrid-cloud strategy, to provide solutions that facilitate innovation and would enable higher levels of efficiency and agility for the rapid delivery of mission-critical workloads.
With IBM Wazi as a Service (IBM Wazi aaS), IBM intends to bring z/OS® for development and test to the IBM Cloud® Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) infrastructure, providing agility to the development process and which would make IBM z/OS a widely available and vibrant choice of platform in a hybrid-cloud environment.
A virtual private cloud provides a way to manage your compute, storage, and networking resources. With IBM Cloud VPC, you define and control a virtual network in logically isolated parts of the IBM Cloud where you can run and support your mission-critical, cloud-tolerant, and cloud-native applications. IBM Cloud VPC gives you the security of a private cloud with the availability, cost-effectiveness, and scalability of the public cloud.
IBM Wazi aaS intends to enable clients with the capability to self-provision a z/OS System as a Virtual Server Instance (VSI) in the IBM Cloud VPC for development and test. In addition, clients would get access to the tools that would enable the following options:
- Deploy an IBM provided development and test stock image onto the z/OS Virtual Server
- Bring your own custom image for applications and related components, and deploy it onto the z/OS Virtual Server in VPC
With IBM Wazi as a Service, clients could achieve the following benefits:
- Increased speed and agility with on-demand access to z/OS for development and test
- Accelerated DevOps practices with flexible, consumption-based pricing
- Improved software quality with automated and continuous testing
- Reduced need for specialized skills with a consistent cloud native development experience
In the future, IBM intends to expand on IBM Wazi as a Service capabilities to provide a complete modern cloud native developer experience for IBM z/OS that would be consistent and familiar to all developers.
