Overview
IBM® MQ for Multiplatforms (IBM MQ) offers enterprise messaging capabilities for secure, once-only delivery of mission-critical data for distributed systems, microservices, and serverless applications in hybrid or multicloud environments.
MQ 9.2.4 is a follow-on offering to the MQ 9.2.3 continuous delivery (CD) release and includes the following enhancements:
- MQ 9.2.4:
- Intelligent workload rebalancing with updates to uniform clusters
- Security enhancements that build on the existing robust security mechanisms in MQ, designed to ensure that your mission-critical business data is protected
- MQ client support for new Java™ 11 runtimes
- MQ client support for Java 17 runtimes
- Updates to improve usability of the IBM MQ web console
- MQ Advanced 9.2.4:
- The capabilities listed in MQ 9.2.4
- Transfer logs, available with MQ Managed File Transfer (MQ MFT)
MQ Appliance 9.2.4 firmware includes the following enhancements:
- MQ administration REST API enhancements
- Intelligent workload rebalancing with updates to uniform clusters
- Security enhancements
- Transfer logs, available with MQ MFT
- Updates to improve usability of the MQ web console
MQ Appliance 9.2.4 firmware is available for the following appliances:
- MQ Appliance M2001
- MQ Appliance M2002

Description
Messaging middleware from IBM is designed to simplify and accelerate the integration of diverse applications and business data across multiple platforms. IBM MQ uses message queues to facilitate the exchange of information in hybrid and multicloud environments, distributed systems, microservices, and serverless applications. By connecting virtually everything, from a simple pair of applications to the most complex business environments, IBM enterprise messaging can help organizations improve business responsiveness, control costs, reduce risk, and gain near real-time insight from mission-critical data.
MQ 9.2.4 is a follow-on offering to the MQ 9.2.3 CD release and includes the following enhancements:
- Uniform clusters. Uniform clusters are a specific pattern of an IBM MQ cluster that provides an automated, highly available, and horizontally scaled small collection of queue managers. Employing uniform clusters removes some of the manual steps an administrator must go through to create and administer a group of independent, interconnected queue managers. In MQ 9.2.4, transactional applications and request-and-reply applications can be connected to a uniform cluster for improved message availability and workload balancing of messaging traffic. In addition, .NET clients can now participate in a uniform cluster.
- Security enhancements. Security is an important consideration for developers of MQ applications and MQ system administrators. MQ 9.2.4 includes several security enhancements that build on the existing robust security mechanisms to help ensure your mission-critical business data is protected, including:
- Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.3 for Java 8 is supported.
- A TLS-only mode is available, and users are notified when a non-TLS communication is enabled.
- Password protection is enhanced.
- .NET support for Server Name Indicators (SNI) over TLS.
- MQ client support for Adoptium and IBM Semeru Java 11 runtimes.
- MQ client. support for Oracle and Adoptium Java 17 runtimes.
- General updates have been made to improve the usability of the IBM MQ web console for a better user experience. These include the capability to download and view complete message contents from the MQ Console, enhancing the prior previewing capability. These capabilities are configurable to provide greater control.
MQ Advanced 9.2.4 provides the previously listed capabilities in addition to the following:
- MQ MFT is a more reliable and efficient means for secure data and file transfer, outpacing and outperforming applications like file transfer protocol (FTP), hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP), secure file transfer protocol (SFTP), and other methods. MQ Advanced 9.2.4 introduces transfer logs for MQ MFT for enhanced visibility of file transfer status. More information is provided to the user about the activities of MFT agents, including details of successful transfers and any failure cases. Transfer logs can assist users in resolving common problems and can be used to supply more detailed diagnostics if required by IBM support.
MQ Appliance 9.2.4 firmware includes the following capabilities as previously described:
- Intelligent workload rebalancing with updates to uniform clusters
- Security enhancements that build on the existing robust security mechanisms in MQ to help ensure that your mission-critical business data is protected
- Transfer logs, available with MQ MFT
- Updates to improve usability of the MQ web console
Additionally, MQ REST administration API enhancements are included to enable MQ Appliance users to query whether the queue manager is configured for High Availability (HA), whether an HA floating IP address is configured, and whether the queue manager is configured for Disaster Recovery (DR).
MQ Appliance 9.2.4 firmware is available for the following appliances:

- MQ Appliance M2002

Statement of general direction
Following are IBM deprecation and support plans to be fulfilled within a future release:
- IBM does not intend to offer support for IBM MQ, IBM MQ Advanced, or IBM MQ Advanced for Developers on Solaris on SPARC and Solaris on x86-64 from version 9.2, or later. IBM MQ 9.1 is the last release to support Solaris on SPARC and Solaris on x86-64. IBM MQ Advanced for Developers 9.1 is the last release to support Solaris on SPARC and Solaris on x86-64.
- IBM intends to support the following minimum operating system levels in the next MQ Long Term Support Release:
- IBM AIX® 7.2 TL5 and 7.3
- IBM i 7.3
- Red Hat® Enterprise Linux® 7.9 and 8.4
- SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP5 and 15 SP2
- Ubuntu 20.04
- Microsoft™ Windows™ Server 2019 and Microsoft Windows 10 20H2

- IBM MQ Explorer runs on the Linux x86-64 and Microsoft Windows platforms.
- MQ Explorer, which is supplied with MQ 9.2.4, can use a client connection to connect to any supported level of MQ or WebSphere MQ on any platform.

The information provided in this announcement letter is for reference and convenience purposes only. The terms and conditions that govern any transaction with IBM are contained in the applicable contract documents such as the IBM International Program License Agreement, IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement, and the IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance.
This product is available only through Passport Advantage.
Licensing
IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use. Part number products only, offered outside of Passport Advantage, where applicable, are license only and do not include Software Maintenance.
Software Maintenance
Licenses under the IBM International Program License Agreement (IPLA) provide for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available. Two charges apply: a one-time license charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours), as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect.

Limited warranty
IBM warrants that when the program is used in the specified operating environment, it will conform to its specifications. The warranty applies only to the unmodified portion of the program. IBM does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of the program or that IBM will correct all program defects. You are responsible for the results obtained from the use of the program.
IBM provides you with access to IBM databases containing information on known program defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at no additional charge. For further information, see the IBM Support Guide.
IBM will maintain this information for at least one year after the original licensee acquires the program (warranty period).
Program technical support
Technical support enables you to obtain assistance (by telephone or electronic means) from IBM for product-specific, task-oriented questions regarding the installation and operation of the program product as long as your Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) is in effect. Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance) also provides you with access to versions, releases, and updates (CD releases, LTSRs, or fixes) of the program. You will be notified, through an announcement letter, of discontinuance of support with 12 months' notice.
MQ for Multiplatforms 9.2.4 is a CD release. IBM will investigate defects on any supported level. Defect fixes are provided for a CD release for 12 months from general availability (GA) or while it remains one of the two most recent CD releases, whichever is longer.
MQ Appliance 9.2.4 firmware is a CD release. IBM will investigate defects on any supported level. CD release firmware is supported for 12 months from GA or while it remains one of the two most recent CD releases, whichever is longer. Interim fixes are provided as firmware updates in combination with the latest fix-pack level of the selected LTSR or in combination with the latest CD release. Note that the MQ Appliance firmware has a different support lifecycle than the MQ Appliance hardware. See the Appliance Support Guide for additional information.

If you require additional technical support from IBM, contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner. An extension of support beyond the discontinuance date might be available for a fee. Note that an extension of support is not available for the IBM MQ Appliance.
Money-back guarantee
If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program and you are the original licensee, you may obtain a refund of the amount you paid for it, if within 30 days of your invoice date you return the program and its PoE to the party from whom you obtained it. If you downloaded the program, you may contact the party from whom you acquired it for instructions on how to obtain the refund.
For clarification, note that (1) for programs acquired under the IBM International Passport Advantage offering, this term applies only to your first acquisition of the program and (2) for programs acquired under any of IBM's On/Off Capacity on Demand (On/Off CoD) software offerings, this term does not apply since these offerings apply to programs already acquired and in use by you.

Software Subscription and Support applies
Yes. Software Subscription and Support, also referred to as Software Maintenance, is included with licenses purchased through Passport Advantage and Passport Advantage Express. Product upgrades and Technical Support are provided by the Software Subscription and Support offering as described in the Agreements. Product upgrades provide the latest versions and releases to entitled software, and Technical Support provides voice and electronic access to IBM support organizations, worldwide.
IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support with each program license acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available.
While your Software Subscription and Support is in effect, IBM provides you assistance for your routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions, and code-related questions. IBM provides assistance by telephone and, if available, electronic access, only to your information systems (IS) technical support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center. (This assistance is not available to your users.) IBM provides Severity 1 assistance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For additional details, see the IBM Support Guide. Software Subscription and Support does not include assistance for the design and development of applications, your use of programs in other than their specified operating environment, or failures caused by products for which IBM is not responsible under the applicable agreements.
Unless specified otherwise in a written agreement with you, IBM does not provide support for third-party products that were not provided by IBM. Ensure that when contacting IBM for covered support, you follow problem determination and other instructions that IBM provides, including in the IBM Support Guide.
