Overview
IBM® MQ V9.1.2 is the follow-on offering to MQ V9.1.1 CD release. Version 9.1.2 includes these additional new enhancements:
- MQ V9.1.2 base automatically balances a pool of connected applications across a set of available queue managers.
- MQ V9.1.2 base provides enhanced REST Messaging performance with connection pools.
- MQ Advanced V9.1.2 includes the capabilities in MQ V9.1.2 base and new REST API calls for MQ Managed File Transfer (MQ MFT) administration.
- MQ Appliance V9.1.2 firmware includes the capabilities in MQ V9.1.2, and also the capability to stream logs off the MQ Appliance. Version 9.1.2 firmware is available for the following appliances:
- MQ Appliance M2000
- MQ Appliance M2001
- MQ Appliance M2002
These enhancements are not available with the MQ V9.1 Long Term Service Release (LTSR). The LTSR includes fixpacks that only provide fixes with no new function.

Description
MQ and MQ Appliance firmware V9.1.2 CD releases deliver features and enhancements that extend and build on those that were available in MQ V9.1.1, the previous CD release.
MQ V9.1.2 base
New functions and enhancements include:
- Ability to automatically balance applications across queue managers
With application workloads that scale more dynamically, it becomes more important to balance workloads across MQ clusters that could be running in public and private clouds and also other on-premises deployments. MQ queue managers might be required to move, redeploy, or update according to changing needs.
In Version 9.1.2, C language applications are automatically balanced across a set of clustered queue managers. This allows new queue managers to be added to the system and others to be stopped and restarted without the need for the application tier to coordinate operations or changes. Changes in this area also enable applications to:
- Identify themselves with their own chosen name.
- Improve workload balancing.
- Enhanced REST messaging performance with connection pools
The MQ V9.1 LTSR delivered the ability to call MQ messaging functions through REST API calls. Lightweight and simple applications can use a subset of MQ functions quickly and easily without requiring an MQ client library to be bound with the applications.
The MQ V9.1.2 CD release enables the MQ messaging REST API to cache and reuse connections to queue managers. This can increase messaging throughput and reduce the impact on messaging resources.
- .NET core support for Linux® environments
One of the enhancements in MQ V9.1.1 was the addition of support for .NET core for applications in Windows™ environments. In MQ V9.1.2, this support is further extended with support for .NET core for applications that run in Linux environments.
- Improved scalability and availability with WebSphere® Liberty
MQ V9.1.2 supports XA coordinated JMS applications running in WebSphere Liberty Profile to connect to one of a set of queue managers. Multiple transaction connections can be workload-balanced across multiple queue managers, removing the requirement for a single queue manager to always be available. This increases the applications ability to scale and to be more highly available while maintaining the global transaction integrity and assured delivery of MQ.
Note: The minimum version of WebSphere Liberty required to enable this capability is Version 18.0.0.2
- Enhancements for the MQ to the Salesforce bridge feature
The MQ V9.1 LTSR delivered the MQ bridge to Salesforce. The MQ bridge enables applications that use MQ to exchange data with the Salesforce feature. This both pushes data into Salesforce and receives data from Salesforce notifications. In MQ V9.1.2 CD, this feature is enhanced with more diagnostics to make it easier to use in production scenarios.
MQ Advanced V9.1.2
- Additional MQ Managed File Transfer (MQ MFT) REST API functions for administration
MQ Advanced V9.1.2 includes the capabilities that were delivered in MQ V9.1.1 CD. It also adds support for new REST API calls for MQ MFT administration.
The MQ Advanced package adds a REST API that enables file data to be transferred over MQ with a new Create file transfer command.
When invoked through a REST API, powerful customized tooling can be created to enable a more dynamic and responsive environment to move file data through MQ, reliably and securely.
- Enhancements for the MQ to Blockchain bridge
A recent enhancement to the features that are available with MQ Advanced is the MQ bridge to Blockchain. The bridge enables applications that use MQ to read and update data on blockchain networks. In MQ Advanced V9.1.2, this feature is enhanced with more diagnostics, to make it easier to use in production scenarios.
MQ Appliance V9.1.2
New functions and enhancements include:
- Integration of MQ Appliance error logs with MQ log targets
The MQ Appliance offers a unique deployment option for MQ queue managers in a dedicated and locked-down physical appliance. This deployment option can be essential for a number of environments, but it restricts that which can be installed or run on the MQ Appliance.
The MQ Appliance V9.1 LTSR enables system logs to be streamed to external tools for centralized monitoring and timely insight. The MQ Appliance V9.1.2 firmware integrates the MQ queue manager error logs with the system log targets to provide a consolidated logging mechanism for both MQ and system events on the platform. This integration enables MQ queue manager error log information to be streamed to external monitoring tools. The MQ Appliance V9.1.2 firmware also includes support for MQ queue manager error logs to be output in JSON format, consistent with other deployment platforms.

Statement of general direction
IBM intends to deliver the following new capabilities within future Continuous Delivery (CD) releases:
- Message-level encryption and decryption on message channels when exchanging messages between Advanced Message Security (AMS) and non-AMS enabled queue managers.
- Updated IBM MQ on Cloud queue managers to the latest CD release on IBM Cloud™ and IBM MQ on Cloud for AWS.
- Cessation of further releases for MQ on the Oracle Solaris operating system. That means MQ V9.1 LTSR is the last supported release on this platform.
- A MQ Client that enables messaging applications and runmqsc administration for development use on macOS
- A container image of MQ Advanced for Developers for the Pivotal Cloud Foundry platform

Queue managers and clients in the MQ V9.1.2 offering interoperate with queue managers and clients from current and previous levels of MQ, WebSphere® MQ, or MQSeries®.
- The MQ Explorer runs on the Linux x86-64 and Windows platforms.
- The MQ Explorer, which is supplied with MQ V9.1.2, can use a client connection to connect to any supported level of MQ or WebSphere MQ on any platform.
- MQ Managed File Transfer supports file transfer to and from server and client installations at any level of WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition.

IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use. Part number products only, offered outside of Passport Advantage®, where applicable, are license only and do not include Software Maintenance.
Software Maintenance
Licenses under the IBM International Program License Agreement (IPLA) provide for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available. Limited warranty
IBM warrants that when the program is used in the specified operating environment, it will conform to its specifications. The warranty applies only to the unmodified portion of the program. IBM does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of the program or that IBM will correct all program defects. You are responsible for the results obtained from the use of the program.
IBM provides you with access to IBM databases containing information on known program defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at no additional charge. For further information, see the IBM Software Support Handbook.
IBM will maintain this information for at least one year after the original licensee acquires the program (warranty period).
Program technical support
Technical support of a program product version or release will be available for a minimum of two years from the general availability date, as long as your Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) is in effect.
This technical support allows you to obtain assistance (by telephone or electronic means) from IBM for product-specific, task-oriented questions regarding the installation and operation of the program product. Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance) also provides you with access to versions, releases, and updates (CD releases, Long Term Support Releases or fixes) of the program. You will be notified, through an announcement letter, of discontinuance of support with six months' notice. If you require additional technical support from IBM, including an extension of support beyond the discontinuance date, contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner. This extension may be available for a fee.

Money-back guarantee
If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program and you are the original licensee, you may obtain a refund of the amount you paid for it, if within 30 days of your invoice date you return the program and its PoE to the party from whom you obtained it. If you downloaded the program, you may contact the party from whom you acquired it for instructions on how to obtain the refund.
For clarification, note that (1) for programs acquired under the IBM International Passport Advantage offering, this term applies only to your first acquisition of the program and (2) for programs acquired under any of IBM's On/Off Capacity on Demand (On/Off CoD) software offerings, this term does not apply since these offerings apply to programs already acquired and in use by you.

Software Subscription and Support applies
Yes. Software Subscription and Support, also referred to as Software Maintenance, is included with licenses purchased through Passport Advantage and Passport Advantage Express. Product upgrades and Technical Support are provided by the Software Subscription and Support offering as described in the Agreements. Product upgrades provide the latest versions and releases to entitled software, and Technical Support provides voice and electronic access to IBM support organizations, worldwide.
IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support with each program license acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available.
While your Software Subscription and Support is in effect, IBM provides you assistance for your routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions, and code-related questions. IBM provides assistance by telephone and, if available, electronic access, only to your information systems (IS) technical support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center. (This assistance is not available to your users.) IBM provides Severity 1 assistance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For additional details, see the IBM Software Support Handbook. Software Subscription and Support does not include assistance for the design and development of applications, your use of programs in other than their specified operating environment, or failures caused by products for which IBM is not responsible under the applicable agreements.
Unless specified otherwise in a written agreement with you, IBM does not provide support for third-party products that were not provided by IBM. Ensure that when contacting IBM for covered support, you follow problem determination and other instructions that IBM provides, including in the IBM Software Support Handbook.
