IBM i 7.1 in Power Systems Virtual Server

Power Systems Virtual Server is rolling out IBM i 7.1 to their data centers. Previously, only IBM i 7.2 and later were available in Power Systems Virtual Server. For IBM i 7.1, IBM i Service Extension pricing is automatically added to the IBM i subscription pricing in Power Systems Virtual Server.

IBM i 7.1 Service Extension

The IBM i 7.1 Service Extension is extended, starting May 1, 2021, through the following dates:

  • Service is extended on the IBM POWER9™ servers that support IBM i 7.1 and in Power Systems Virtual Server through April 30, 2024.
  • Service is extended on IBM POWER8® servers through April 30, 2022.
  • Service is extended on IBM POWER7® +, IBM POWER7, and earlier servers through December 31, 2021.

The extended IBM i 7.1 Service Extension is usage and known defect support. Some software components are not included in the extended IBM i 7.1 Service Extension. For details, see Service Extension for IBM i 7.1 and IBM i 7.2.

IBM i 7.1 is available in Power Enterprise Pools 2.0 with Utility Capacity environments

In Power Enterprise Pools 2.0 environments, IBM i 7.1 is available on Power Systems servers that are supported both in the Power Enterprise Pools 2.0 environment and available with IBM i 7.1. Previously, only IBM i 7.2 and later releases were available in Power Enterprise Pools 2.0 environments. For details and requirements regarding IBM i 7.1 on POWER9 servers, see IBM i 7.1 on selected Power S922 and E980 servers.

In Power Enterprise Pools 2.0 with Utility Capacity, clients can use capacity credits for IBM i 7.1 operating system usage in the same way they use credits for IBM i 7.2 and later releases. IBM i 7.1 Service Extension is not included in capacity credits. Contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner for information on acquiring IBM i 7.1 Service Extension.

The information provided in this announcement letter is for reference and convenience purposes only. The terms and conditions that govern any transaction with IBM are contained in the applicable contract documents such as the IBM International Program License Agreement, IBM International Passport Advantage® Agreement, and the IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance.

Licensing

IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use.

Software Maintenance

The IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance (Z125-6011) applies for Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) and does not require client signatures.

Licenses under the IBM International Program License Agreement (IPLA) provide for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available. Two charges apply: a one-time license charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours), as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect.

Limited warranty

IBM warrants that when the program is used in the specified operating environment, it will conform to its specifications. The warranty applies only to the unmodified portion of the program. IBM does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of the program or that IBM will correct all program defects. You are responsible for the results obtained from the use of the program.

IBM provides you with access to IBM databases containing information on known program defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at no additional charge. For further information, see the IBM Support Guide.

IBM will maintain this information for at least one year after the original licensee acquires the program (warranty period).

Money-back guarantee

If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program and you are the original licensee, you may obtain a refund of the amount you paid for it, if within 30 days of your invoice date you return the program and its PoE to the party from whom you obtained it. If you downloaded the program, you may contact the party from whom you acquired it for instructions on how to obtain the refund.

For clarification, note that for programs acquired under any of IBM's On/Off Capacity on Demand (On/Off CoD) software offerings, this term does not apply since these offerings apply to programs already acquired and in use by you.
