IBM Cloud Foundry Enterprise Environment v3.0.0 features and capabilities
We’re pleased to announce the latest version of Cloud Foundry Enterprise Environment (CFEE). Below is a summary of new features and capabilities in version 3.0.0.
New component versions
- Cloud Foundry: 3.6.0
- Cloud Foundry API: 2.120.0
- CFEE Buildpacks: Support for the CFLinuxFS3 Stack
We are now using the latest database technology to store Cloud Foundry data and have migrated away from using Compose for PostgreSQL. Instead, we are now using IBM® Cloud Databases for PostgreSQL, which means that that creating a new CFEE instance will no longer require developer access to a Cloud Foundry organization and space. This change also means that any existing CFEE instances (versions 1.x or 2.x) cannot update to version 3.0.0. You will have to create a new CFEE environment from the catalog in order to take full advantage of the new features in v3.0.0.
This new version provides more secure communication between the CFEE instance and the supporting services (Kubernetes cluster, Cloud Object Storage, and Databases for PostgreSQL).
Communication with the Kubernetes cluster takes place by default through the cluster master (instead of through the ingres router).
Communication with the Cloud Object Storage service instance now always takes place through the IBM private network.
Communication with the Cloud Databases for PostgreSQL instance takes place through the IBM private network if the IBM Cloud account is enabled for Virtual Routing & Forwarding (VRF) and IBM Cloud Service Endpoint.
Synchronizing the local CFEE catalog with the IBM Cloud catalog takes place automatically every 24 hours. Synchronization can be done manually within the UI of a CFEE space page. In CFEE 3.0.0 that manual synchronization can also be done more easily in the overflow menu of the Overview page (in the CFEE user interface, click Synchronize catalog in the overflow menu located in the upper right corner of the Overview page).
Getting started with this release
Due to the database change we've described above, it is not possible to upgrade your existing v1.x or v2.x environments. To get started with CFEE v3.0.0, you will have to deploy a new environment from the catalog.
Consult the documentation for details on how to use all these new features and the release notes.
