Today, IBM closed on the acquisition of Instana, a leading enterprise observability and application performance monitoring platform.

Designed to proactively “keep up” with the continuous delivery of new code, Instana continuously and automatically discovers, maps, and monitors all hosts and applications, whether they are running on bare metal, virtual machines, or containers. Instana strengthens IBM’s Watson AIOps offering with this continuous stream of information, resulting in higher-quality recommendations from its AI models.

With the acquisition of Instana, IBM offers industry-leading, AI-powered automation capabilities to manage the complexity of modern applications that span hybrid cloud landscapes. Clients get a leading enterprise observability platform to drive automated remediation, powered by Instana’s contextualized data with metrics, traces, profiles, and dependency mapping. In addition, existing IBM monitoring clients will have a path forward to preserve their existing investment and take advantage of the modern observability features of Instana.

DevOps teams get immediate automated feedback on their CI/CD pipeline to drastically reduce deployment time while increasing both quality and uptime. Instana enables DevOps and ITOps teams to aggregate and contextualize different sources of performance data — connecting metrics across frontend websites and mobile devices to backend cloud services, on-premises services, and even services running on the mainframe.
