IBM Message Hub is being renamed as IBM Event Streams

Beginning the week of September 17, 2018, IBM Cloud will rename IBM Message Hub for IBM Cloud services to IBM Event Streams for IBM Cloud in an effort to closely align with our on-premise deployment option.

Event Streams lets you take advantage of a fully managed Kafka-as-a-service platform that allows you to deploy how you want while integrating your workflows with a scalable, distributed, high-volume messaging service. With Event Streams, you unlock the true potential of your event-driven apps by leveraging a high-throughput messaging backbone that’s optimized for event ingestion into IBM Cloud. This service optimizes event stream distribution between your services and applications.

IBM Event Streams features

With IBM Events Streams, you will benefit from Kafka-made-simple and have the ability to complete the following:

  • Offload work to back-end worker processes

  • Connect stream data to analytics to realize powerful insights

  • Publish event data to multiple applications to react in real time

  • Transfer data into another service (e.g., to long-term storage)

This name change will not change how you experience IBM Message Hub; however, it will help improve naming consistency across the IBM Cloud catalog of services.  Whether developers are looking to use Event Streams for Public Cloud or for Private, the IBM services will have the same name: Event Streams.

Users will first note the Catalog listing and Documentation updates. All external endpoints will remain the same, and during the transition, users may see Message Hub referenced periodically until all related touchpoints are updated.

No immediate action is required following the name change. For more information on using Kafka-as-a-service in the IBM Cloud, refer to our Getting Started Documentation for public cloud applications.

The advantages and disadvantages of private cloud

6 min read - The popularity of private cloud is growing, primarily driven by the need for greater data security. Across industries like education, retail and government, organizations are choosing private cloud settings to conduct business use cases involving workloads with sensitive information and to comply with data privacy and compliance needs. In a report from Technavio (link resides outside ibm.com), the private cloud services market size is estimated to grow at a CAGR of 26.71% between 2023 and 2028, and it is forecast to increase by…

Optimize observability with IBM Cloud Logs to help improve infrastructure and app performance

5 min read - There is a dilemma facing infrastructure and app performance—as workloads generate an expanding amount of observability data, it puts increased pressure on collection tool abilities to process it all. The resulting data stress becomes expensive to manage and makes it harder to obtain actionable insights from the data itself, making it harder to have fast, effective, and cost-efficient performance management. A recent IDC study found that 57% of large enterprises are either collecting too much or too little observability data.…
