IBM Aspera updates enable companies to thrive in challenging, new environments.
The events that are transpiring in 2020 resemble little of what we expected and planned, and organizations around the world have been forced to make extraordinary shifts in the way they conduct daily business. To help teams continue collaborating from home, IBM Aspera has made available until June 30, 2020, a free 90-day subscription to the Aspera on Cloud high-speed file sharing service.
Moving forward, we recognize that the cloud will be used to host larger portions of content production and delivery workflows, and IBM Aspera is responding with a series of planned product enhancements* designed to support this shift. Support remote team collaboration and distributed workflow development
Long one of the most popular Aspera solutions for global person-to-person file exchange, IBM Aspera Faspex is planning to add content collaboration functionality to v4.next. This future release intends to provide customers a new, cloud native, containerized solution that is fully API driven.
We plan to redesign the secure web application to take advantage of the latest Carbon and React web UI frameworks. The planned API-driven architecture and container-based deployment in this future release would allow customers to deploy on-premises, in the cloud, or in a standard Linux-based environment.
Also in preview, IBM Aspera Orchestrator v3.next is intended to expand support for distributed workflow development while providing an enhanced look and feel. This future release plans to offer streamlined and simplified workflow import and export functionality together with performance enhancements for high-availability (HA) deployments.
We plan to design a deeper integration with GitHub to help developers maintain a full repository of workflow revisions and enable synchronization between Orchestrator instances. Also planned is added support for Python, which would allow developers to more rapidly code, test, and implement workflows that integrate with existing applications.
Accelerate the transition to remote production by delivering video over IP networks
Organizations exploring opportunities to reduce production costs are reexamining remote models that use video delivery over IP networks. A survey conducted last year in conjunction with Ovum Consulting regarding live media transport solutions found that 77% of media enterprises were dissatisfied with their existing live media transport solution and that by 2023, about a quarter of all live video will be delivered over IP networks. With the current transition to remote work environments, we are seeing a rapid acceleration in the transformation of live video delivery.
Recent advances in IBM Aspera Streaming solutions enable this industry transformation by supporting an expanded set of deployment scenarios. Aspera Streaming’s new fasp.io Gateway enables full bi-directional communication and flexible substitution for TCP (transmission control protocol). Those organizations seeking to stream a file directly to a cloud storage archive can draw upon newly released sample code available with the solution.
Experience the power of the cloud
In April 2018, IBM launched its second generation SaaS offering, Aspera on Cloud, that continued to maintain the standard for high-speed, secure transfers to and from the cloud. Since then, nearly 18,000 organizations have transferred over 220 petabytes using the platform. IBM Aspera on Cloud continues to provide advanced security features to accelerate organizations' migration to cloud computing. Planned new enhancements include geofencing to provide country-based access to the platform and Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) functionality that would allow customers to integrate their own key management service (KMS) and manage their own encryption keys.
To help simplify user, key, and content management, Aspera on Cloud has introduced password-protected public links for shared folders and inboxes, automatic expiration of user accounts based on inactivity, enhanced key management support aliases, and automatic package deletion and archiving.
Additional intended enhancements include the following:
- Planned new subscription management features that would make it easier for administrators to view usage of transfer volumes, egress, and storage.
- An intended expansion of activity reporting that would include view and download activity reports across the organization.
- A planned new integration with Irdeto's forensic watermarking service that would streamline tracking and protection of proprietary video content sent through the cloud transfer service.
Harness the speed and performance of Aspera
Long recognized as a pioneer and thought leader in the realm of high-speed data transport, IBM Aspera continues to push the performance limits of its patented core technology. Using its latest multi-session, autoscale technology, IBM Aspera transfers have been shown to nearly eclipse the 100 gigabits-per-second speed barrier across clouds. Customers can now also take advantage of a more simplified Aspera provisioning process for its users, regardless of the environment—particularly those in highly secure and restrictive ones.
Other enhancements offer expanded support for content archival to the cloud, including real-time streaming use cases as well as high-speed file transfers to cold storage. Finally, IBM Aspera continues to invest heavily in building containerized, scalable Aspera High-Speed Transfer Server software that is certified to run on Red Hat OpenShift and available as part of the IBM Cloud Pak for Integration.
