Five New Reference Architectures for IBM Cloud for VMware Solutions
IBM Cloud for VMware Solutions is pleased to announce new releases to our reference architectures. Our five new guides are as follows.
vCenter Server and IBM Cloud Private
This guide provides a view of the application modernization journey to IBM Cloud. We focus on the components to deploy an integrated multi-cloud, and, hence, the guide describes IBM Cloud Private (ICP) deployed on to vCenter Server on IBM Cloud. ICP is the application platform for developing and managing containerized applications. Additionally, the guide details the deployment of IBM Cloud Automation Manager(CAM) into ICP. CAM is a multi-cloud, self-service management platform that empowers developers and administrators to meet business demands.
vCenter Server and IBM Kubernetes Service
This guide focuses on extending vCenter Server with the IBM Cloud Kubernetes Service. IBM Cloud Kubernetes Service is a managed service on IBM Cloud that leverages Kubernetes as the orchestration engine for automating deployment, scaling, and operations of containers across a single-tenant cluster. Furthermore, this guide shows how Acme Skateboards deployed a reference architecture to start their application modernization journey. This allowed them to focus on containerizing web interfaces and middleware while allowing more complex databases to remain as VMs.
VMware and Skate Advisor Concept Car
This reference architecture is a “concept car”—that is, a mechanism to highlight and show technologies solving real-world problems. We wanted to demonstrate an interaction between Watson AI and machine learning in a real way. Above all, through the culture of skateboarding, we demonstrate cloud services in a unique way. The implementation of the “concept car” is an extension to the Acme Skateboard application called Skate Advisor. Skate Advisor is a tool that allows users to have skateboarding trick conversations with a Watson-driven engine.
VMware: The modernization journey of Stock Trader
Our reference use case describes a classic WebSphere Application Server application being modernized using IBM Cloud Private, IBM Middleware content, IBM Cloud Kubernetes Service, and vCenter Server on IBM Cloud. We are all on a cloud journey, and we are all at different points on that journey. Through incremental steps by the application architect, Jane, and the cloud infrastructure architect, Todd, we modernize an existing app called Stock Trader. It shows examples that help you take each step in your journey and see the value realized to your business, regardless of how large or small each step is. We focus on four themes: applications, DevOps, integration, and management. Each work together to help you achieve your goals, and, in fact, modernizing one without the others results in problems all around.
vCenter Server Networking
This guide focuses on the network technologies used for integration between vCenter Server, IBM Cloud Private, and IBM Kubernetes Services using NSX-V and Calico. The guide also has a technology preview of NSX-T.
