The latest release of the IBM Cloud Pak for Multicloud Management is now available.

With the 1.2 release, you can manage your enterprise containers and services that run on multiple cloud providers.

What is the IBM Cloud Pak for Multicloud Management?

The IBM Cloud Pak for Multicloud Management, running on Red Hat OpenShift, is an enterprise grade technology solution that is built on open source technology. This Cloud Pak provides consistent visibility, governance, and automation from on-premises to edge computing. With this Cloud Pak, enterprises gain capabilities such as multicluster management, event management, application performance management, infrastructure management, and tools management.

The IBM Cloud Pak for Multicloud Management contains the following installable modules: IBM Cloud App Management that includes IBM Cloud Event Management and IBM Cloud Automation Manager.

To learn more about IBM Cloud Pak for Multicloud Management version 1.2, see the documentation. For more information about everything that’s new or changed in this release, see the release notes.

Top features and enhancements in IBM Cloud Pak for Multicloud Management v1.2

1. Run on Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform version 4.2

The 1.2 release supports installation of the Cloud Pak on Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform version 4.2 for the hub cluster, which is the centralized controller that aggregates information from multiple managed clusters by using an asynchronous work request model.

For these managed clusters, the Cloud Pak supports importing clusters from a variety of cloud providers.

2. Integrate with Red Hat Ansible and CloudForms

With the 1.2 release, you can integrate Red Hat Ansible and CloudForms with the IBM Cloud Pak for Multicloud Management. With this integration, you can manage Ansible and CloudForms from the console.

With the 1.2 release, you can integrate Red Hat Ansible and CloudForms with the IBM Cloud Pak for Multicloud Management. With this integration, you can manage Ansible and CloudForms from the console.

Integration with CloudForms—which is Red Hat’s main hybrid cloud management product—is beneficial for operations teams that want to break up workflows into smaller tasks. You can use the CloudForms management platform to control and manage your different cloud infrastructures.

With the Ansible Automation Platform, you can manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with standardized virtual infrastructure provisioning in all clouds with common, repeatable, and scalable processes and automation. The Ansible Automation Platform is proven to increase operational efficiency by as much as 76% when automating daily IT operations.

3. Manage multiple clusters and applications effectively

This release provides cluster lifecycle management so you can create and manage clusters that can scale based on workload and demand. The IBM Cloud Pak for Multicloud Management also provides modern application lifecycle delivery capabilities to deploy, manage, and monitor your applications across multiple clouds at scale.

In addition to previously released Cluster API cloud provider support, you can now create Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service clusters with the Cloud Pak.

The application lifecycle management capabilities for the Cloud Pak are further enhanced in this release to provide you with the following new or changed features:

  • Create and edit application, subscriptions, channels, and placement rules from the console applications dashboard.
  • Console processes and views are simplified to provide you with a clearer view of your applications and resources and to make identifying and troubleshooting issues easier.
  • Create subscriptions for GitHub channel repositories to store Kubernetes resource YAML files and unpackaged Helm charts, enabling GitOps for your organization.
  • Schedule subscriptions to be activated at specific time windows to control when deployments and upgrades to your managed cluster can begin.
  • Store and deploy Kubernetes secrets through subscriptions, securing your important data throughout the entire transaction flow.
•	Store and deploy Kubernetes secrets through subscriptions, securing your important data throughout the entire transaction flow.

The core application lifecycle subscription resource templates are also now available as open source software through GitHub repositories. You can use these templates to help you learn about the application lifecycle resource types and migrate your existing applications to use the application lifecycle resource types

4. Improved console navigation with search capabilities

The IBM Cloud Pak for Multicloud Management console navigation design is updated to now highlight product capabilities, while still providing users clear pathways based on tasks and use-cases. The previous pages that were available in the console are mapped into the new primary categories.

In the 1.2 release, the IBM Cloud Pak for Multicloud Management console has enhanced search capabilities to enable users to follow a train of thought, such as diagnosing problems or understanding the current state of pods or other information.

You can also use the console to see incidents for services, applications, and infrastructure by quickly and effectively monitoring event noise and then prioritizing, diagnosing, assigning, and resolving the incidents from a single service.

The monitoring capabilities for the Cloud Pak are enhanced to now monitor infrastructure and application health with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Golden Signals.

5. Governance and security always at the forefront

The 1.2 release provides workload protection with an improved Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) dashboard. With this dashboard, you can enable authentication with Red Hat OpenShift when you install your cluster on a public cloud.

This release also includes complete environment topology observability that spans Kubernetes-based clusters and all VMs. This topology view enables users to have visibility into every component that is relevant to their business-critical applications.
