A new report by IBM IT Economics Consulting & Research.
When considering the move from messaging software running on x86, there are a lot of factors to think about. The most important is, of course, which solution is the right fit for you. Another common driving factor is cost.
Is the MQ Appliance the right solution for me?
There are several questions that you can ask yourself to get a better idea of whether the IBM MQ Appliance is right for you:
- Are you considering cost reduction?
- Do you want a self-contained, dedicated MQ solution?
- Is MQ performance important to you?
- Do you want high availability and disaster recovery out-of-the-box?
- Considering your in-house skills, would you benefit from a preconfigured solution?
- Is security important to you?
- Would you prefer a solution with firmware, hardware, OS and software dependencies all rolled in?
If the answer to any of these is “yes” then I invite you to read on.
The report
In their report, IBM IT Economics Consulting & Research look at the different costs associated with running MQ on x86 servers versus running the MQ Appliance. They consider people, energy, floorspace, networking, software and hardware. Whilst this report focuses on the move from IBM MQ to the IBM MQ Appliance, it is conceivable that migrating from other messaging software options to the IBM MQ Appliance would also yield cost savings.
Read “Reduce operational costs with the IBM MQ Appliance” for details on their findings.
