We are excited to announce the availability of IBM Cloud Kubernetes Service and Red Hat OpenShift on IBM Cloud in the Osaka MZR (multizone region).

Users can deploy clusters on either Classic IaaS or VPC, providing choice and flexibility for customer workloads. Deploy a cluster today to try the new region:

What are IBM Cloud Kubernetes Service and Red Hat OpenShift on IBM Cloud?

IBM Cloud Kubernetes Service launched in May 2017, and it is a managed container services offering that leverages Kubernetes as the container orchestration solution.

Red Hat OpenShift on IBM Cloud launched August 1, 2019, and it is a managed service that simplifies deployment and configuration of OpenShift.

Managed services

Both offerings deliver powerful management tools, an intuitive user experience and built-in security and isolation to enable rapid delivery of applications, all while leveraging Cloud Services and cognitive capabilities from Watson.

In addition to native Kubernetes capabilities like intelligent scheduling, self-healing, horizontal scaling, service discovery and load balancing, automated rollouts and rollbacks and secret and configuration management, IBM Cloud Kubernetes Service and Red Hat OpenShift on IBM Cloud simplify operations with HA masters, multizone clusters, automated lifecycle management and built-in DR, all while providing an industry-leading 99.99% SLA.

As a managed service, IBM will automate initial provisioning and on-going maintenance, including operating system patches, vulnerability remediation and any updates in the OpenShift stack. Lifecycle management is only one aspect of a managed OpenShift offering, however. Another key aspect is building in operational efficiencies so you can deliver line-of-business objectives. We do that by supporting highly available (HA) master nodes in a multizone cluster configuration. This ensures that master and worker nodes are distributed evenly across at least three physically separate data centers (i.e., zones) within that region. Managed OpenShift and the Kubernetes Service support your most critical workloads by providing an SLA of 99.99% on a variety of compute isolation choices, including bare metal. Both offerings also support your regulated workloads with compliance including PCI, HIPAA-ready, ISO, SOC1 Type 2, SOC2 Type 2 and SOC3.
