IBM Cloud continues to expand offerings available as HIPAA-ready.
IBM Cloud is now ready for HIPAA-ready workloads on the following VPC Gen 2 offerings:
- IBM Cloud Virtual Private Cloud
- IBM Cloud Virtual Server for VPC
- IBM Cloud Block Storage for Virtual Private Cloud
- IBM Cloud Kubernetes Service
- Red Hat OpenShift on IBM Cloud on VPC
The U.S. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) establishes standards for protecting and handling patient information. A “HIPAA-ready” IBM offering is an offering capable of meeting HIPAA standards and ready for IBM and the client to enter into a business associate agreement (BAA), including terms for protecting and handling patient information in a manner meeting HIPAA standards as a shared responsibility.
IBM is responsible for the readiness and delivery of each IBM Cloud offering designated as HIPAA-ready. Processes, features, or add-ons created on or above the IBM Cloud standard offering by the client or other third party that is not an IBM vendor are outside the scope of IBM’s responsibility.
