Introducing Coffee Lake E3-2174G single-socket server platforms.
As a customer’s business grows, their need for processing performance grows along with it. As small-database and web-hosting workloads continue to rise, customers seek a computing platform that can deliver improved performance and efficiencies.
To satisfy this need, IBM Cloud has now delivered new Coffee Lake E3-2174G single-socket server platforms for small- to medium-size workloads. The Coffee Lake processor-based platform is Intel®’s high-performance single-socket processor.
The new platform is now available worldwide in all multi-zone data centers and will be deployed across all other data centers in quick succession. These processors provide a great opportunity for the customers to refresh their single socket Kaby Lake (1270v6)-based platform to the higher-performing Coffee Lake-based platform. Customers who require a platform with low core count, high clock, and high memory (such as for small Oracle instances) will see a significant value with these platforms.
Performance upgrades
The Coffee Lake platform is a performance upgrade from the current Kaby Lake 1270v6 platform. Coffee Lake servers double the memory a single socket Kaby Lake platform can support from 64GB to 128GB.
To further enhance performance, the platform supports DDR4 speed up to 2666 MHz (from current 2400 MHz on the Kaby Lake platform) and CPU Turbo boost frequency up to 4.7 GHz.
Customers can choose from 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB memory configurations, and this server will continue to use Intel Software Guard Extensions (SGX) for enhanced system security.
Get started with Coffee Lake
The base server configuration will be priced at the same level as the 1270v6 server to make it easier for customers to shift to this new platform. The Coffee Lake platform can be ordered through portal, API, or CLI.
