Business Challenge story
Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd. needed its Automotive Division to effectively manage product innovations and trace them from requirements to deployment while maintaining product quality and reliability. However, the electrical and electronics systems at the company were becoming more and more complex. The lack of tooling and automation in the engineering process covering electrical and electronics components led to redundant work and lack of governance. The company sought a development platform to better manage and automate these processes.
Mahindra engaged IBM Software Services for Rational to define the solution architecture for a complex engineering process and requirements that involve multidimensional product-requirements management, development planning and supplier-deliverables tracking. Based on its results, the Software Services for Rational team helped the client implement an IBM Rational systems-engineering solution for automating and managing the electrical and electronics components engineering process across all vehicle platforms. The solution is based on the IBM Rational solution for Collaborative Lifecycle Management and includes the following applications: - IBM Rational Team Concert software to define product plans - IBM Rational Quality Manager software to test and manage the quality of artifacts - IBM Rational DOORS Next Generation software to elaborate requirements - IBM Rational Insight software for dashboard and reporting functionality - IBM Rational Engineering Lifecycle Manager software to define electrical and electronics products using the application's product-hierarchy capabilities
Mahindra gained a collaborative-lifecycle-management solution that streamlined and automated engineering processes for its electrical and electronics components across all vehicle platforms. With the solution, the client can manage product innovations from requirements definition to delivery, tracking which products of the product lines consume these innovations. The solution provides a platform for holistic and consistent management of the engineering process, allowing the client to reduce redundant work and enhance governance of projects. Mahindra is now one of the few automotive organizations in the world that uses the IBM Rational solution for Collaborative Lifecycle Management for end-to-end engineering process
