IBM was able to really shoulder to shoulder with us to implement things that allowed us to support Rhode Islanders in ways we never would have been able to do independently.

Kristine Campagna, COO of COVID Operations, Rhode Island Department of Health

Business Challenge

The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) recognized that it lacked the resources—in headcount, training, technology and, most importantly, process expertise—to mount the response needed to safeguard the return to classrooms in September.

Rhode Island Department of Health chose IBM Global Business Services to coordinate its COVID-19 response efforts. Employing the IBM Garage methodology, healthcare experts from the Cognitive Process Services practice created a COVID-19 operations/contact center focused on scheduling tests, delivering results and performing contact tracing, all in the span of just 12 days. The solution increased the speed of case investigations by 5x and provided predictive insights used to guide state-level public health communications messaging.
