Business challenge story
Becoming more competitive
As competition on the technology market heats up, Bosch’s IT division is under pressure to provide flexible, rapid services for its diverse team of business users. However, satisfying evolving customer requirements became increasingly difficult as the performance and agility of Bosch’s IT estate was outpaced by rising demand.
Business users wanted fast, multifunctional IT systems that would support innovation, yet Bosch’s legacy systems made delivering this requirement difficult and time-intensive. Each time a business user required more functionality and faster performance, the IT team had to manually install and configure new systems – a time-consuming process. To support the pace of innovation, the company began looking for a better way of working.
Boosting agility and performance
Bosch implemented SAP HANA and SAP S/4HANA on IBM Power Systems, enabling the company to advance business agility and increase performance. SAP HANA provides a whole host of new functionalities that can be utilized by many business departments, from finance to development. Bosch also uses SAP S/4HANA Finance to simplify the way it manages billing and financial data and give users greater visibility and granularity of data. In future, Bosch plans to deploy high availability and disaster recovery solutions, some of which are already in place across two data centers.
The Power Systems servers are virtualized using IBM PowerVM® technology. Bosch uses IBM Cloud Orchestrator to manage and create cloud environments. In fact, business users can now deploy their own software without relying on administrators for support.
Business users at Bosch can deploy systems rapidly as and when they need with minimal support from IT, fostering a culture of innovation. For example, if a business user wants to resize or restructure a database, the IT team can modulate its cloud infrastructure with the click of a button. By reducing the dependency on IT, the company unlocks time savings and gains efficiency, and allows IT personnel to focus on value-add activities.
