Business Challenge Story
Strategic technology partner to help keep pace with changing business needs
Prior to 2017 each business in the Godrej Group had its separate network and infrastructure which were not flexible and scalable. It was more siloed and was completely capex driven. Godrej Group wanted to build future ready IT infrastructure and systems so that it can keep pace with the changing business needs and support future business requirements. They were looking for a infrastructure platform which is reliable, robust, flexible, scalable and at the same time cost efficient. Godrej Group wanted a technology partner who can help them consolidate and simplify infrastructure to drive reduction in costs, increase speed to market and ensure always on available infrastructure.
Leveraging cloud to improve time to market and security posture
IBM is a key strategic technology partner of Godrej Group. The partnership is now more than 10 years old. In these years IBM has worked with Godrej Group in several technology enabled transformational projects.
IBM has been the implementation partner for Godrej Consumer Products Ltd for its SAP ERP and APO implementation and MS-Dynamics ERP implementation projects across several countries in India, South East Asia, Latin America, US, UK and Africa. IBM currently manages these applications for Godrej Consumer Products Ltd.
Apart from that IBM has been working with Godrej Group to transform its IT infrastructure where the group’s entire IT infrastructure (both primary and DR) now runs on IBM private cloud.
Transition to IBM cloud has been smooth. Well laid out plan ensured seamless migration of all workloads in 8 months. Scope of migration had to cover 5 different businesses and each one of them have multiple business critical applications. The migration was done in multiple phases to avoid any business disruption.
All of this with a very robust security framework assures Godrej Group of flexible platform that can scale to their requirements swiftly.
Migration to IBM cloud has helped Godrej Group bring more synergy and efficiency as it needed to pay only for the capacity consumed. This helped them reduce overall IT infrastructure cost by 10%.
Earlier, Godrej Group had to go through the hurdle of investing in infrastructure even for the sake of experiments such as building new application, setting up new test environment etc. This has reduced considerably by adopting cloud. This new infrastructure offers more agility as Godrej Group can deploy new technology for the business much faster and thus enabling them to reduce time to market.
In the past, in the event of a disaster, the data center had the ability to support with 60 percent of coverage in recovery. Godrej Group being a multi-national company had to ensure that business is running and protected across the globe with minimum or zero down time. The move to private cloud enhanced the disaster recovery coverage to 100 percent and also improved the security posture to enable zero security incidents.
Godrej Group is an Indian conglomerate headquartered in Mumbai, with significant interests in consumer products, real estate, agriculture and gourmet retail through subsidiaries and associate companies, across 18 countries.
