Today’s most advanced cognitive technology users offer a glimpse into the possibilities and tangible benefits of creating intelligent businesses.
While scientists and engineers have been exploring cognitive and AI technologies in labs for decades, the big data explosion and recent advances in computing power have propelled them into mainstream applications. We wanted to find out exactly how businesses are applying these technologies across their organizations, and what tangible benefits they’re beginning to realize. We surveyed 600 early adopters of cognitive technologies and wanted to share our learnings through an interactive visual.
Did you know that 77% of organizations that already implemented cognitive and artificial intelligence technologies use them to innovate products and services, more than for any other business goal? Or that, while we hear a lot about the use of AI in customer service (think: chatbots), experienced users are equally likely to use AI in corporate strategy and management functions? About half of them use AI for these two business functions.
We looked closely at a subset of advanced users — organizations using two or more cognitive technologies for at least one year. These cognitive pioneers are implementing and increasing adoption of these technologies throughout their organizations, uncovering new use cases and paving a path for others to follow or take in entirely new directions.
Cognitive and AI technologies are already driving real business value
Many of these advanced users are embedding a full spectrum of AI technologies — including machine learning, natural language processing and more — into their processes and products. And the benefits they’re already seeing show us why every business should make this a priority.
And while any organization, whether experienced in using AI or not, can see improvements immediately when they begin using these technologies, experience definitely matters. We found that the more businesses use AI, the better their outcomes are, and the more innovative their applications become.
