Cognitive services in smart machines

Recently, Gartner released a report titled, “Cool Vendors in Smart Machines, 20161”. The report highlights “cool” vendors that provide practical applications of smart machine technologies that can do (at scale) what, five years ago, either required expensive human labor or could not be done at all.

The report notes that, “These vendors are cool because, without smart machine technologies, it’s either impossible or very difficult and expensive to do what they do. They’re also cool because they’re experimenting on the front line with applying smart machine technologies to existing business problems. However, some of them will not succeed, while others will be acquired. Still others may succeed beyond their wildest dreams.”

And, it is pretty cool, isn’t it? Cognitive services are solving big challenges across all industries, and cool business leaders, innovators, and developers are just beginning to dream up what’s next.

One of the vendors included in the report was Go Moment.

We believe that Go Moment is enhancing your hotel experience. IVY, Go Moment’s SMS-based 24-hour concierge service, provides what we believe is exceptional and automatic service for guests and hotels.

Using Watson’s Natural Language Classifier API, IVY reads incoming guests texts and directs them to the correct hotel department. For example, if you text a request for towels, the message is automatically directed to housekeeping and a housekeeper will bring you a fresh set of towels to your room. This allows you to receive your request in a fraction of the time. When Ivy’s confidence in answering a customer’s request falls below 98 percent, the customer is transferred to human support.

This is just one example of how cognitive services are sparking innovation across every profession and industry. Improving patient care, customer engagement, business intelligence, and research, to scale the greatest minds to every mind. Pretty cool.
