Today’s IBM in the UK and Ireland

In the last two years, we have experienced monumental change as an organisation and as a result, today’s IBM is a very different company. One that is more strategically focused and more technologically capable. The hard work and commitment of our talented IBMers in the UK and Ireland has been pivotal to this.

The UK and Ireland is one of the most strategically significant markets for IBM. We have a rich tradition and history of innovation and our technology and consulting expertise have been instrumental in putting our clients first, working alongside our ecosystem partners.  Over the last 12 months, we have simplified our portfolio of offerings and worked with clients and partners to deliver innovative digital transformation projects we are all proud of.  This year will be no different.

Our purpose

Our clients own and operate our nations’ mission-critical systems; banking and financial services, healthcare and government services, telecommunications, retail and many others. We are uniquely positioned to make a real difference to our society, as we have consistently and continuously done throughout our storied 110-year history. We believe creativity inspires positive change: we use the principles of Design Thinking to solve the most complex problems facing business and society today. As IBMers, we are deeply passionate and committed to creating a world that works better.

Our new home in London

Last week, we officially opened our vibrant new IBM London home right at the heart of Waterloo. Our state-of-the-art location is designed to be accessible, to inspire creativity, to foster connection and collaboration, and make great ideas come to life by envisioning the future. Our new home brings together the best of IBM’s technology and consulting expertise to enable our clients and partners to get from pure inspiration to real action.

Investment in our people

Our people are the beating heart of our organisation, and we are dedicated to providing professional learning and development opportunities to help all IBMers – and the workforce of the future – succeed. Last month, we announced plans to create hundreds of jobs across our operations in Ireland, highlighting our continued confidence in nurturing a highly-skilled and talented workforce to further support our mission. IBM is a leader in hiring Early Professionals – our IBM Foundation programme is recognised as “Outstanding” by Ofsted, also achieving the Training Award Standard from the Princess Royal, Princess Anne.

Our commitment to skills goes beyond our IBMers. Several educational institutions across the UK and Ireland including campuses in West London, Leeds and Dublin equip students with foundational learning about topics including cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing, as well as professional skills like design thinking and agile to help them work in the industry through our global P-Tech programme. And with our global pledge to re-skill 30 million people around the world with new digital skills through over 170 partnerships with education providers, government departments and other organisations across 30 countries by 2030.

IBM is honoured to be among the first companies to be awarded the inaugural 2021 Terra Carta Seal by HRH The Prince of Wales via the Sustainable Markets Initiative to recognise global companies that are driving innovation and demonstrating their commitment to creating genuinely sustainable markets. We first declared our commitment to environmental leadership 50 years ago are delighted to have this landmark recognition of our commitment to sustainability, including our net zero by 2030 pledge, our 21 environmental goals, our increased adoption of renewable energy sources to power our global IBM Cloud datacentres that help clients reduce their carbon footprints, and so much more.

Looking to the future

We are at a pivotal point in history.  The pandemic has dramatically increased the pace of digital transformation.  Once perceived barriers to change are now being challenged.  As trusted stewards of our industry, we have an obligation to help our clients leverage the latest in technology to create new experiences – for their clients, for their employees and for their partners.  Our technology offerings, our consulting capabilities, our research capabilities and our industry depth are tightly aligned to the challenges and opportunities that our clients are trying to address.  The winning ingredient is the IBMer and our personal and collective leadership.

It is down to our imagination, our ability to collaborate and to drive change at speed.

Let’s THINK.  Let’s Create.

Multi-Modal Intelligence Platform

Traditionally, data management systems provided only numerical or textual based business intelligence primarily for back-office users across finance, sales, customer management and supply chain. Today, we are increasingly seeing data management systems which drive key business functions requiring interrogation of multi-modal data sets from documents, presentations, images, videos to audio. This demands a more sophisticated […]
