Architect the customer experience in today’s API economy

Share this post:

In today’s digital economy, business and technology leaders are taking the challenge head-on to be competitive in the market.   The main challenge: pushing innovation to the edge, and allowing everyone in the organization to innovate while still protecting brand and design for long-term sustainability. How do you remain innovative by bringing the latest app or service to the market to meet the increasing demands of the digital consumer? How can the latest technology be used to support in-market strategy and any future needs?

This journey takes on different pain points in different industries. Highly regulated industries like banking and healthcare have compliance and security at the top of their lists. Companies that define themselves as travel and transportation businesses have brand loyalty and customer data protection to worry about. Now that the use of APIs has made the design of an ecosystem across traditional industry boundaries seamless, some are wondering which business they are actually in.

What we do know is that as digital projects pop up in the business and partner ecosystem, the accountability of maintaining a flexible and functional technology environment still resides with the IT department. Being able to innovate quickly and maintain customer loyalty to your brand through sustainable, scalable and secure IT environments has now become more complex.

As APIs become central to business strategy roadmaps, classic cloud integration architectures are taking on new challenges. Add to that the huge amounts of data that devices and sensors are generating, putting demands on IT systems that need to be ready to take the data and move it quickly to the right location.

On the flip side, data that you have already generated and stored is quickly becoming a potential source of revenue and valued negotiation currency within your ecosystem. It can be shared in ways that develop new revenue streams and address unmet needs in the market. IT enterprise architects are in a key position to help companies identify those assets and convert them into additional revenue streams.
