How to identify the right MVP use case to ensure its success?

Share this post:

The MVP use case is the main subject of the MVP; it can be essentially technical, business-oriented, or a combination. Defining the use case is the very first step in the MVP process.

Knowing the subject is critical. It allows us to invite the best-fitted resources to the discovery workshop, business framing, architecture, and scope definition workshops.

If the topic is substantially technical, it remains essential to identify the business outcome resulting from implementing such a technical solution. Technology is a business innovation enabler; as such, identifying business outcomes makes it easier to approve budgets, augment user adoption and participate in overall business strategies.

On the other side, if the topic is primarily business-focused, identifying the best technology components is key to meeting the intended business criteria and enabling innovation and growth.

Discovery and business framing workshops are MVP initiating activities, allowing brainstorming, discussing, and agreeing on one use case. As you can imagine, having the right stakeholders around the table is critical to the success of the definition of the use case and the success of the MVP.

After the use case definition, a technical architect enters into play to define or validate the technical components, the MVP, and future architectures.

Is there an optimal or frequent type of use case?

Technology or industry trends are important influencing factors in use case definitions. We encounter similarities in use cases depending on the industry they operate in or their technical maturity level.

Here are some of the most recent technical trends:

  • Migrate/move data or apps to the cloud
  • Deploy apps as services/containers
  • Implement Big Data/Data Lake
  • Secure and monitor data access
  • Accelerate and control the dev/test/deploy processes
  • Maintain and monitor hybrid environments
  • Simplify IT, Service providers
  • Digital transformation
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Data science

Here are some of the most predominant business trends:

  • Improve user satisfaction by providing a great user experience, self-service processes, faster and more efficient
  • Improve client/employee support by providing intelligent support systems
  • Provide the correct info to the right person at the right time
  • Reduce operational costs, increase sales per client
  • Identify errors/incidents before it arrives
  • Paperless processes
  • Improve business agility, move, change, adapt faster
  • Prove real-time data access

All these topics are frequently demanded by a number of our clients aiming to start their innovation journey by an MVP executed together.

These trends are also allowing us to create assets and earn in depth experience on these topics, augmenting our team’s expertise. By operating globally, we share experiences and assets, and if we have done it before, we can do it again, faster and better.

Do you want to know more about any of these topics? You have your own and would like to discuss its feasibility?
