Top three things you need on your InterConnect agenda

Share this post:

The New Year kicked off with a frenzy of activity, and with February already here, you may be wondering if you really want to spend a week in Las Vegas at IBM InterConnect 2016.

Here are three reasons I’m excited to attend:

Unbeatable networking

InterConnect is the best bang for your buck when it comes to providing you with a concentrated population of peers and professionals for sharing, learning and growing. With more than 24,000 attendees and over 2,000 sessions led by industry leaders and IBM experts, you will have hundreds of opportunities to engage one-on-one with some of the world’s foremost thinkers on cloud, mobile and cognitive technologies.

Compelling, game-changing technology on display

The expo is the place to be at InterConnect, and with all that’s happening at IBM Systems booth 116, you might make more than one visit. There will be demos of OpenPOWER servers in SoftLayer (an IBM company), scalability and density of Docker containers, Power’s unique Turbo LAMP stack, IBM i’s new mobile and analytics capabilities and Apache Hadoop and Spark services on Power. Oh, and did I mention the all new Power Systems LC Server line will be on display as well?

In addition, the students from the Innov8 with POWER8 Challenge will be there showcasing their innovative projects leveraging Power Systems technology, and you can vote for best in show!
It’s not just the technology you can play with. There will also be plenty of giveaways and fun. Make sure to stop by and grab a sticker at the booth, and stay tuned on Twitter to find out how getting social at InterConnect could earn you more than a few retweets.

Partnerships are accelerating value and changing the cloud game

Much of the focus will be on the amazing things happening around open source, open standards and strategic partnerships. All are driving to deliver better performance and economics to the customer’s private, public and hybrid clouds.

Some of the most exciting collaboration and innovation is happening around the OpenPOWER Foundation. Created just over a year ago, it now boasts over 170 members coming together to create new solutions to accelerate speed and efficiency of networking and compute services. OpenPOWER and its partners are delivering solutions that provide better-than-good-enough performance for the world’s most critical cognitive challenges.

These solutions are also finding their way into the IBM cloud with the recent availability of OpenPOWER bare metal servers in SoftLayer. At InterConnect, you will be able to see these new systems in action–showcasing their cost and performance advantages. Some examples include:

  • 1.59x more users per hour at 65 percent lower cost for LAMP application stack in cloud environments.
  • Nearly twice the number of Spark workloads (94 percent more) at the same price and/or number of systems.

If you would like to learn more, CEO of the OpenPOWER Foundation Calista Redmond will be discussing this revolution of data-centric platforms (Session 2403), and Stefanie Chiras will be hosting a panel of cloud service providers innovating on POWER8 and finding new performance and economics for growth (Session 2753).

Need a few more sessions to round out your agenda? Here’s three more I won’t be missing:

  • 7153: Power Systems kickoff Hybrid Cloud in the Cognitive Era with IBM Power Systems and OpenPOWER with Power Systems GM, Doug Balog
  • 6028: Watch Watson Work: GoMoment revolutionizes your hotel front desk
  • 2751: The Hybrid Cloud built to perform with POWER8 in IBM SoftLayer

Whether on premise, in the public cloud or somewhere in between, the innovation economy is alive and well and InterConnect will be a launching ground for new ideas, new relationships and new projects to propel us forward in this New Year!
