Wow! I can’t believe that InterConnect 2016 is already more than halfway done. Tuesday was another jam-packed day of amazing content, announcements and expert knowledge from some of the top IT leaders in the world.
Practical hybrid clouds that really work
The day got off to a great start when Jamie Thomas, General Manager of IBM Systems Strategy and Development, discussed multiple real-world examples of how hybrid clouds are helping to drive digital transformation at some of the biggest companies in the world. Hearing how our customers are doing everything from driving retail sales to even curing cancer using this technology was incredibly inspiring.
General session: IT transformation
Today’s session followed the theme of IT transformation. Tom Rosamilia, Senior Vice President of IBM Systems, may have said it best when he shared that in order to become a trusted service provider, IT leaders must master the hybrid cloud in order to truly transform their organizations.
Shortly afterward, Marie Wieck took the stage to discuss how companies are starting to embrace an IT infrastructure that combines a comprehensive API strategy with the best in application integration, data capture, and security. Through a live demo of IBM API Connect (which is now available on both Websphere Connect and z/OS Connect), she demonstrated how quickly and easily companies can now roll out management APIs to their infrastructure.
Helping out those in need
What has really struck me about the people spending their time here at IBM InterConnect isn’t just their passion for IT, they’re also passionate about taking the opportunity to do good. This afternoon hundreds of conference attendees (including our team from IBM Systems) took time out of their lunch hour to instead pack up food for hungry children to help Stop Hunger Now. By the end of the conference, we’re told they’ll have packed over 280,000 meals for at-risk families in Vietnam.
Of course, as a social media fan, I’ve also really enjoyed the conversation and discourse happening on social media from the conference. So many of IBM’s leaders and our business partners are making announcements, livestreaming, Periscoping, and just generally making Twitter a center of conference activity.
Be sure to follow the event hashtag #IBMInterConnect and IBM Systems Twitter feed, @IBMSystems, and as well as our Twitter list. Other social channels include LinkedIn, Google+ and our YouTube channel.
Keep an eye on them – you may just catch a glimpse of Sir Elton John tonight as well.
