Welcome to the first IBM SEE blog

Welcome to the first regional blog of IBM in South East Europe (SEE). It tells the story of IBM’s European “unicorn” – dynamic, innovative and intelligent.

SEE covers a geographical region of more than 10 countries, including Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia. It accounts for 8 percent of Europe’s population, but less that 2 percent of the IT market as a sign that IBM SEE is poised for a faster growth – based on tradition, innovation and reinvention.

Since 1936 – long before our competitors entered local markets – IBM’s advanced technologies and know-how have been supporting SEE’s digitalization, instilling digital IoT-in-SEE-infographic_IDC-page-001intelligence into systems and processes that paved region’s progress – e-government, financial and tax systems, education, healthcare, commerce, automotive, transportation, smarter cities, etc.

This blog will also explore IBM SEE’s next chapter – our and our clients joint journey into the cognitive era.

In the cognitive era data that was previously invisible to systems can be captured and analyzed to generate new insights and technologies like IBM Watson are helping digital things to “learn”.

Consider the following facts:

  • In SEE by 2020 there will be 244 million connected devices and the number of such things that communicate through Internet will exceed SEE population by more than five times.
  • Over seven million smart meters will be deployed across the region.
  • Every minute 1.7 MB of data is created for every person on the planet. All 7.3 billion of us.

All this represents a chance for cognition to make its way into cars, buildings, processes and supply chains, as well as an almost untapped market of $3.18 billion.

It is a chance for us to create new markets, transform industries, build new business models, cure cancer and fulfill our dreams. I am delighted that we are going to do this together.

So, let us get started:

  1. Bookmark this blog and follow us. Tell us what do you think, what matters to you, what does “cognitive” mean to you – comment. Let us know. We are listening.
  2. If you are an ambitious business leader who wants to understand how your business can benefit from the cognitive insights still today – bookmark the website and and register for the first ever SEE BusinessConnect 2016 to be held on May 30-31, 2016 at the The Castle Garden Bazaar in Budapest, Hungary. Share this with others like you.

Going forward we will be telling stories that are related to this event and to our clients. The first one – coming soon – is about Ustream, a leading provider of cloud-based, end-to-end video solutions for media and enterprises. Come back here soon to find out what do Ustream, SEE BusinessConnect and cloud video streaming have in common.
