In the inaugural episode of the Trends in Talent Management Podcast, Jennifer McClure, President of Unbridled Talent and CEO of DisruptHR, looked into the future of HR—and that future looks cognitive.
Machine learning, AI and cognitive have already had a big impact on industries as diverse as healthcare, automotive, retail, communications, banking and government. One thing all of those industries have in common is the need to hire, onboard and develop the best people. The good news for talent management leaders in any industry is that cognitive solutions are able to help with all of their most pressing needs.
One development already making an impact is chatbots, as McClure notes in Episode 1: Trends and Future of HR. The ability for an employee to have intelligent conversations with chatbots and get answers to their questions about benefits, onboarding, etc. not only improves the employee’s efficiency, it also both frees up HR professionals’ time and gives them insight into what sort of questions people are asking, enabling them to ensure they have the answers employees need.
Cognitive is also helping talent management leaders make better decisions, similar to how IBM Watson is helping doctors make more informed choices regarding an individual patient’s healthcare, McClure says. Cognitive solutions can examine data—structure and unstructured—then make connections, identify trends and provide insights that would have otherwise gone undiscovered.
McClure stresses that these cognitive systems are not going to replace HR professionals, but rather act as trusted advisers. We will still need human intelligence to take the information—even recommendations and predictions—that AI and cognitive provide and make decisions about what to do next. Humans will still be needed to think strategically and innovate, to identify and even create new opportunities. In doing so, they will be able to transform candidate engagement, hiring, employee learning and career development, and every other aspect of talent management, and do so in a way that aligns with the business’s overall objectives.
This new podcast series with HR leaders and influencers will continue to dive deep into the latest trends, most urgent issues and most intriguing developments on the horizon in the world of talent management.
