VMware in the cloud – choosing the right partnership for success.

Share this post:

In the last two weeks VMware generated many headlines in the IT press. At their earnings announcement last week, VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger, attributed the successful turnaround of VMware’s Cloud strategy to their partnerships with AWS,IBM and Dell……and when Microsoft announced their Azure solution to run VMware workloads in the Azure cloud, VMware was quick to decline their support.

So when it comes to running your VMware workloads in the Cloud, it quickly boils down to selecting the right Cloud provider.  No one can argue the AWS is by far the largest provider of Public Cloud – but does that automatically make them the best choice of for VMware clouds? Well, surprise, I don’t think so!

For a start, consider the fact that the AWS / VMware solution is only available since August and only out of two AWS regions in the North America! So for the Nordics or rest of the world for that matter, it’s not really an option until some (undefined) time in 2018.

Contrast that to what IBM Cloud has to offer for your VMware workloads:

  • IBM Cloud / VMware solution available since February 2016
  • 1400+ clients have already adapted IBM Cloud for their VMware environments
  • Solution available out of IBM Cloud’s 60+ datacentres in 19 countries
  • No new skills required – run exact same VMware stack on-prem and in IBM Cloud
  • Know exactly what you pay each month – NO consumption pricing for CPU and/or Memory

But it does not stop here! IBM Cloud and VMware have expanded our solution portfolio far beyond the basic offerings for Datacenter cloud extension:

  • IBM Cloud is VMware Cloud Verified: IBM Cloud is one of the first of a new class of partners carrying the VMware Cloud Verified trust mark.
  • IBM Cloud Secure Virtualisation for VMware – a joint solution with Hytrust, to secure VMware cloud workloads with Intel TXT technology and geofencing.
  • Adoption of VMware HCX Technologies: IBM is one of the first partners to adopt VMware HCX technologies.
  • VMware Horizon Cloud is the next generation of virtual desktop and application cloud services from VMware offered by IBM Cloud.
  • Certified Public Cloud Infrastructure for SAP HANA® on VMware on IBM Cloud: IBM Cloud offers SAP-certified bare metal servers for SAP HANA® platform deployments in the IBM Cloud and configurations for VMware environments.

So if you are looking to take your VMware workloads into the cloud, and think AWS is the only option, please think again, and have a look at IBM Cloud for VMware.
