On this issue of #WomenInConsulting, we are featuring Courtney Good – a Senior Strategy Consultant at IBM Services. She shares her favorite part about working at IBM, her passion and advice on career development.

Name: Courtney Good

Position/Positions Held at IBM: Senior Strategy Consultant, IBM Digital Strategy

Current Work Location: Austin, TX

Length of Employment at IBM: 1 year

What’s your favorite part about your job and working at IBM Services?

I love working with my clients and providing impact on their organization much faster than they would be able to if the work was done internally. It is very satisfying to help clients when they are in a pinch, and I always learn something new along the way!

What would your colleagues say is your best quality?

My teammates tell me that they appreciate my positivity and ability to go with the flow. Work can be all-consuming when you are at the client site, and thus it is important to remember to stay positive even if you experience a minor setback!

What are your greatest accomplishments outside of IBM?

During my second year of business school, I was chosen to be a co-chair of the student admissions group at McCombs. Over the course of the year, I organized the support of 150 students and countless events to showcase what the school has to offer. We were able to recruit the best and smartest class that McCombs has had yet! I have continued to be involved in recruiting at IBM and helped lead the first on-campus recruiting season for IBM Digital Strategy. It is fun to meet such high caliber students and share my IBM experience!

Share one thing that you are very passionate about…

Breakfast tacos! When I am on the road at the client site, the one thing I miss the most is being able to grab breakfast tacos as a quick bite before work. My go-to weekend meal is breakfast tacos, and I have a ranking of all of the taco joints in Austin that I share with any visitors.

What valuable advice have you received in your career that helped get you here?

When I was looking at full-time opportunities during business school I wasn’t 100% sure what I wanted to do. I was deciding between pursuing a role at a smaller tech company or taking the strategy consulting role at IBM. My dad gave me some great advice and told me that from a consulting job at IBM I would be able to go anywhere after, whereas if I started out at a smaller company I would have fewer opportunities down the road. One year into the job, and I truly believe this. I have been given the opportunity to learn about a variety of industries and feel as though this role has only opened doors for my future.
