Launch of Digital Transformation Cognitive Solutions

Share this post:

Cognitive SolutionsSapphire is the most significant event in the SAP industry and is just round the corner. IBM has recently announced the launch of the Digital Transformation partnership with SAP and innovative cognitive solutions.

The LSS (Lab for Sap Solutions) at IBM GBS which I run, has been leading the development charge in driving this exciting collaboration with SAP.

We are co-innovating on next generation cutting edge cognitve solutions spearheaded by Cognitive Computing, S4 HANA Adoption and the HANA Cloud Platform. And these solutions are driven by technology trends around IOT, Predictive Analytics, Machine Learning Security, Cloud Services, Mobile and User Experience.

And here is the most important part: we are rolling out cognitive solutions for our Digital Transformation flagship customers who have signed up as early adopters in the program.

I am super excited to announce the launch of the following next generation cognitive solutions developed at the LSS:

Talent Advisor – with SAP SuccessFactors and IBM Cognitive: This solution incorporates IBM Cognitive capabilities into an SAP SuccessFactors extension on the SAP HANA Cloud Platform. It leverages the Engagement Advisor to interact with a recruiter and determine the skills and traits that would be present in an ideal candidate. From there, it leverages the Personality Insights, Tone Analyzer, and Alchemy APIs to recommend the top candidates, reducing the search time for the recruiter.

E-Commerce Guide – with SAP Hybris and IBM Cognitive: This solution is built as an extension to the SAP Hybris Commerce platform leveraging the Guided Selling offering* from CognitiveScale (an IBM Cognitive ecosystem partner).  Specifically, this solution replicates the strength of in-store customer service by understanding customers’ product preferences and trends to provide personalized product recommendations.

IoT for Sustainability – with SAP HANA and IBM Cognitive: This solution is built as an extension to the SAP IoT platform. It uses HANA data to run predictive models and has a cognitive layer for machine learning so the predictive capabilities are always improving. This solution leverages Cognitive Tradeoff Analytics to analyze the performance of heavy machinery in a production plant and help maintenance managers identify the optimal strategy for plant efficiency.

Claims Adjust iOS App – with SAP HANA Cloud Platform and Apple + IBM MobileFirst: This solution is an iOS application built on IBM’s MobileFirst Platform to support insurance claims adjusters while they are in the field.  The App is integrated with SAP via the HANA Cloud Platform with data being displayed on the front end (iPad) and updated in the back end (SAP HANA) using Restful API’s. The integrations are built to standard SAP data tables, drastically reducing implementation time.

Find and Fix iOS App – with SAP HANA Cloud Platform and Apple + IBM MobileFirst: This solution is an iOS application built on IBM’s MobileFirst Platform to support field technicians while they are making deliveries throughout the day.  The App is integrated to SAP via the HANA Cloud Platform with data being displayed on the front end (iPad) and updated in the back end (SAP HANA) using Restful API’s. The integrations are built to standard SAP data tables, drastically reducing implementation time.

Predictive Maintenance – with SAP Predictive Analytics and IBM Cognitive: This solution collects and analyzes real-time truck sensor data with the SAP Internet of Things Service available on the HANA Cloud Platform. This data is then loaded into IBM’s Cognitive Tradeoff Analytics to determine the optimal capacity levels for each of the trucks which will minimize the required maintenance. The data is ultimately visualized using SAP’s Cloud for Analytics technology for easy presentation to maintenance managers.

Smart Materials Planning – with SAP HANA and IBM Machine Learning: This solution analyzes production planning master data to identify incorrect entries and recommend corrections. Specifically, the solution uses data from SAP HANA as inputs to the IBM Machine Learning Algorithms using the Predictive Analysis Library. The results from these algorithms are returned to a separate table in the HANA database, and fed to a front-end UI5 application on the SAP HANA Cloud Platform via OData services.

Heads Up Weather Alert App – with SAP Hybris and IBM Weather Data: This solution allows a utility company to maintain regular communication with its customers to keep them informed during electrical outages. It leverages SAP Hybris Marketing to send targeted marketing campaigns by calling the IBM-owned Insights for Weather API to understand the current weather for customers in a specified geolocation.

These proof of concept cognitive solutions created with our flagship clients validate the world of possibilities that exists for our customers. I encourage everyone interested to come visit the IBM booth area during Sapphire next week and we will be showcasing these solutions LIVE in addition to all the Analyst and Speaking sessions scheduled at the event.

Finally I wanted to give a special SHOUT OUT to my amazing LSS team and our volunteers for working super hard round the clock to get these solutions rolled out. We have a terrific group of technology and business thought leaders in my gang who are leading the charge in the Digital Transformation Program. This accomplishment is a result of their hard work and we are super excited to kickstart the Cognitive journey with our customers.

Looking forward to a very Exciting SAP SAPPHIRE event next week!!!!

Three things I learned from clients in 2017 about digital transformation

I started 2018 thinking about resolutions and goals, and reflecting on the prior year; the things I want to accomplish in the New Year, both personally and professionally, and what I learned in 2017. It was only six months ago that I stepped into my role leading the IBM Global Next Gen Enterprise Cloud Applications […]

Enabling industry disruption while being disrupted

High-tech companies develop devices and technologies on which digital interactions take place. These interactions create massive amounts of valuable data that enable industry disruption. But while they’re creating the very tools required for digital disruption, these companies themselves are not immune to their own displacement by revolutionary innovators. Industries are converging, creating huge opportunities, but […]
