This is a significant visit because it is the first visit from Oracle’s JD Edwards senior leadership members to our IBM Services Center in Baton Rouge.  It is a top priority of the JD Edwards Leadership team to promote JD Edwards talent from universities – this visit is an excellent showcase of how IBM has cultivated JD Edwards talent by recruiting entry-level hires from Louisiana State University to the Service Center.

Background on IBM Services Center:  Baton Rouge

IBM Baton Rouge Center“In 2013, IBM partnered with the State of Louisiana to create new technology jobs over the next four years. IBM’s Oracle practice has been part of these job creations as our goal is to map the growth of this service center with the strategic product direction adopted by JD Edwards and its Cloud direction.”

Outcomes from the Visit

The visit started with a meeting at Epic Piping on Monday, June 22, 2015 to review the current IBM Hybrid Cloud implementation of JD Edwards.Epic Group The client has gone live in record time of under 8 weeks with Wave 1 that included Core Vanilla JD Edwards functionality. Two more Waves are expected to be completed through December 2015 leveraging IBM’s agile Cloud implementation methodology for JD Edwards. The Epic Piping project leveraged the Baton Rouge Center for JD Edwards support. Following this the next day agenda for Ekdahl and Schiff included a tour of the Baton Rouge Service Center given by Adreanne Liggins – IBM Baton Rouge Oracle Delivery Leader.

“As JD Edwards Leadership, it is our strategic focus to train fresh talent. Since JD Edwards started out in 1977 (with IBM), the talent pool requires the cultivation of next generation talent and skills. The partnership between IBM and Louisiana State University is a great way to cultivate that next generation of JD Edwards talent. After touring the facility in Baton Rouge and meeting some of that fresh talent, I am thrilled for future opportunities between IBM and Oracle JD Edwards.”

Lyle Ekdahl, Senior Vice President Product Development, Oracle JD Edwards

Lyle & John speakingEkdahl and Schiff also got to meet with the Oracle team employed at the center and we engaged in a discussion to explore how this center could be leveraged for JD Edwards training and Agile Cloud delivery. Ekdahl and Schiff shared with the IBM team best practices on JD Edwardsdelivery and training especially given the new strategic direction of Cloud and Enterprise Mobility.

As an outcome of these meetings, IBM’s JD Edwards Leadership team and the Oracle JD Edwards leadership team agreed to:

  • Work collaboratively in the development of fresh JD Edwards talent into the ecosystem using the Baton Rouge center and other similar centers. IBM also has a learning and near shore center operational at Lansing, MI and Halifax, Nova Scota, Canada.
  • Take advantage of exclusive JD Edwards training material that are available to IBM as an Oracle Diamond Partner
  • Follow up meeting at JD Edwards Denver Headquarters for a detailed mapping of JD Edwards Enterprise Mobility and Internet of Things together with IBM market leading offerings in this space, that can later be offered as a training program in Baton Rouge Center
  • Leverage Baton Rouge for JD Edwards Solution offering development like IBM’s Cloud JD Edwards for Oil & Gas or Whole Sale Distribution

Baton Rouge Group“The Baton Rouge center is a great investment for IBM JD Edwards Practice. By creating a delivery center onshore in Baton Rouge, IBM JD Edwards Practice is able to provide top-notch services and delivery to clients.”
